Professional footballers spend most of their working time at the training ground which for Tottenham is near the junction of the M25 and the A10 and a mile away from where my parents (and I) used to live. A lot of the players live further out in Hertfordshire or Essex. It can take an hour to get into central London from there, just as it does from Winchester. The standard run to the Norwegian fjords tends to be in high summer, which is pretty useless for Northern lights. They have started to run Oriana up to Tromsø a couple of times in March which are specifically for the lights. For almost all other destinations Southampton is several hours steaming nearer which is very important in today's cruise world of slower speeds.
