  1. I won't buy it, but there again I never bought any of the others...
  2. I've been to Bergen a few times. Has it stopped raining yet? Actually I was lucky, it was only raining on one of my visits, but I understand it's one of the wettest places around.

  7. The 'moan later' brigade have already started complaining about the universal state pension. You can understand a 'lack of provision and savings' when you see the paltry results from annuity and savings interest rates and the constant talk of means-testing those who have made prudent provision.
  8. Its all a question of getting the balance right. There are certain areas that have to be serviced by a state, defence, police, fire and so on. Others such as health are extensions of this. The government earns very little money through state activities, it all has to be financed by the private sector. I would argue that when government spending approaches 50% it stifles free-enterprise. 20% would be good.
  9. It's the other way round. The bloated public sector is holding the economy down and taking money away from the private sector who could use it more wisely.
  10. 'Grossly damaging' is stretching it a bit far. We're only looking at putting things back to where they were a few years ago, if that.

  13. And reduces the value of government debt.
  14. The same thing happens in the UK but the mechanism is different. Here they just print lorryloads of money which devalues savings.
  15. I don't like it. All I see is 'Pap' written across the front of it.
  16. I wasn't actually thinking about the woman, as usual.
  17. Not actually 'cuts' though, are they?

  19. Matthew Parris from The Times a year or so ago: 1: The party's over. 2: There ain't gonna be another.
