Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)
Whitey Grandad replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Lounge
And the time lags are counted in centuries rather than decades. Add to that the efffects of la Niña/El Niño, the 50-year Atlantic Hurricane cycle and all the other climatic oscillations and it's a right mess to unravel. -
Wasn't Matt's testimonial supposed to have been a record, what with no segregation and everything? How was the England Macedonia match?
-
Definitely head to head if you believe the Football League's own rules.

Hosepipe ban, innit?

A good point Minty, but we are still no nearer knowing how much effect all this is going to have and even whether or not it is beneficial. We are 'overdue' an ice age, or so some scientists have been saying for as long as I can remember. -
Football League Rule 40.6.2 (a) http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-6-players_2293633_2125731 The transfer window opens at midnight on the last day of the season and closes midnight 31st August.

Thanks. I was of course talking about teams that are aiming for second and end up in third . And I was including the other two divisions. That's a 37.5% success rate, better than 25% but not much better than 1 in 3.

Nobody, not even I, will dispute that. It's the contribution from man-made gases that is in question. -
That's exactly what I was saying! Once you've earnt it it belongs to you and your children and their children, not the state, not society, no-one else. What you suggest is theft, nothing less. We do not live in a communist state, we are not economic slave units. As for entrepreneurs, even 40% is pernicious, and you haven't included National Insurance, either employee's or employers'.

That's my concern. If by some fluke we don't go up I cannot see us doing this well next season.

Like all good drama, it goes to the final day.

I think that Phil has confused Reading's fixture with West Ham's. -
That's wrong in two respects.
-
Historically it has been the case that the team finishing third flunks the playoffs.

Not at all, but we mustn't let our personal preferences and prejudices affect our opinions. My feeling is that there is a lot more going on here than meets the eye. I'm sure that more will come out as we move on.

I'm cool. Not worried at all. Not a bit. No, not even thinking about it. Now where's that cat?

As I posted elsewhere, If we had played Coventry earlier in the season then we would probably already been promoted. -
No, inheritance tax is pernicious. It's graverobbing. You work all your life, pay taxes when you earn it, and then people like you want to take it away again. Remember, it's not your money!

Well, if you put it like that... ok, I suppose I'd take it. -

Ok, so what does that mean in terms of goals scored? -
Except in Scotland?

I've just noticed that phrase. A professional foul can take place anywhere on the pitch, it's a deliberate foul for whatever reason, usually to stop a player breaking away downfield but it could just be that your goalkeeper was out of position and you wanted to buy some time. I think you're confusing this with the specific offence of 'denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity' and the foul does not have to be committed by the last man in defence for this to apply, this is merely one of the guidelines often spouted by uninformed commentators. Seeing your location, I must say that the decision on Shaun Derry was even more ridiculous than this example. Time to move on, I feel, but let's hope that tonight's referee bends over backwards to help Leicester.

Thought so: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2133734/Terror-case-lawyers-fight-fanatics-deportation-land-110m-legal-aid.html (It's in the Daily Mail so it must be true)

Well it wasn't May who made the decision it was the Home Office and she acted on their advice. You're right, it's the court whose opinion matters and not some journalist from the Times. The appeal was faxed at 23:13 and as it happens not actually read until the next morning, some sources say after prompting from the court itself. Whether that was Strasbourg time or BST is another question. The original written judgment was before summer time and also before February 29th. A month can be four weeks or it can be a calendar month. Without all the details neither you nor I can pass judgment. The court has not yet ruled on whether the appeal was within time, or valid.
