  1. It was called BODMAS in my day. Calculators vary in their priority sequencing. HP used to use reverse Polish which confused some people. 1 to the power 0 is 1, so the answer is 6-1+1, which is 1. (edit: that's a load of horlicks. I'd blame my IPad if I could. It's a good thing I showed my working). ;-) It was an exercise for the reader. The answer is obviously 6, derbrain.
  2. This is counter-intuitive. The best strategy is always to change your mind. Think of it this way. Choose a door that you don't want to be opened. The chance of it being a car is 1 in 3, so the chance of there being a car behind one of the other two doors is 2 in 3. The host will get rid of the spare goat for you leaving you with twice the chance of getting the car, providing you change your mind.
  3. It's what Google should have been, had they been able to spell. It's also a jolly big number.
  4. Oi! Watch it.
  5. Googol is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_large_numbers
  6. It was supposed to be but somebody couldn't spell.
  7. That is now a trillion.
  8. Yes, it scares the willies out of me but what can I do?
  9. Both are now a thousand million.
  10. That's encouraging, thanks for the read.
  11. Mine comes from my grandchildren. One grandfather has brown hair, the other is me.
  12. Agreed, I've been saying his for some time.
  13. Does the club know about this? If not, then I think they should.
  14. It shows how short of defenders we are. If Fox is out for long who do we have for cover?
  15. It may not have been a case of money. Dealing with the Ramirez transfer must have taken up a lot of time, although you'd hope that the club could handle more than a couple of deals at the same time.
  16. Thomas Hitzlsperger also out of contract at Wolfsburg (?). Can he play left back?
  17. Could he be like Shevchenko was to Abrovich? Maybe Cortese idolised him when he was a little boy.
  18. Should never have been played. Oxford was worse, I thought.
  19. It's not straightforward. There's a bulge in sea level nearer the equator because of the earth's rotation. Britain is recovering from the weight of the ice age so the north east is rising and the south sinking, or something. What we need is a hosepipe between the grounds so we can see which way the water goes.
  20. Impressive, but I think I'd rather see a lower figure and a bit more passing and possession. Incidentally, it's not just Morgan, the whole team runs about more than most. Against Man City 66.24 miles. Ward-Prowse covered more than Morgan against Man Utd, 6.96 miles v. 6.93. He also has third highest average speed in a match, 5.12 mph against City. (Daily Mail today, page 73)
  21. The reference is Mean Sea Level at Newlyn. That's a long way from Middlesbrough.
  22. There's no denying they were short passes. What was the best that could happen? A pass back to flappy Kelvin who would then hoof it upfield in a panic. No need for it.
  23. Can he play left back?
  24. Which sweeping generalisation would that be?
