Really haven't got into our stride yet. Can't pinpoint why but we can't seem to string 3 passes together at the moment.

Redmond carved us open there. Not a good sign.

Michael Gove blasts rebel MPs as 'Disgrace' for voting against military action... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/youre-a-disgrace-michael-gove-shouts-at-mps-after-syria-vote-8790995.html

And you accuse me and pap of childishness?
-
In a civilian area - therefore a war crime. Just because one is labelled a WMD and the other is not, that makes it OK does it? The infliction of death and suffering on the civilian population is alright as long as the weapon used doesn't have an arbitrary definition under international law? You accuse pap of being biased against the US (which as far as I can tell was not the point he has tried to make), yet your blinkered insistence on defending the actions of the US at all costs says more about your own narrow-vision than it does about anybody else's opinions.
-
Why? Both are classified as chemical weapons and as such their use, specifically in civilian areas, is classed as a war crime. Do you or do you not condemn the use of chemical weapons against civilian populations? If you do then you should be just as indignant about the US using them in Iraq and the Israelis using them in Gaza as you are about somebody, the identity of whom has yet to be proven, using them in Syria.

You may all find this interesting as well. Testimony from a US General from 2007 that Bush and his neo-cons planned to attack Syria as far back as 2001... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha1rEhovONU

Was listening to him on the radio news the other day and I remember commenting to my GF along the lines "Do you reckon he talks to his wife like that?" I used to have a modicum of respect for him when he was the opposition leader because he always carried himself well against Blair at PMQs. These days he's just a smug tosser parroting his party line every time he opens his mouth.

I particularly like one of the comments where the poster describes our academy situation as a 'virtuous circle'. He's right. Because of the successes in recent years of the likes of Bale, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain; and because of our willingness to put our academy players into the first team, lots of kids (and more importantly, their parents) are going to look at what our academy has achieved and be more inclined to sign up with us if they have a choice of clubs to go to. That will only benefit us in the long run because it means we can pretty much pick and choose from the best available talent in our catchment area. I was visiting my girlfriend's family in Cumbria at the weekend, and her 10-year-old nephew is in the Everton youth setup (doing very well by all accounts). Even at his young age he acknowledges the success of our academy and said he would happily join us if he lived anywhere near Southampton. Although as one of the pompey fans on that thread mentioned, Everton also have a habit of turning up some gems from their academy.

Indeed. This film was made in 1976, and it is even more relevant today than it was then.
-
For some reason it reminds me of this...
-
I've heard this before, though it was dubbed over a video montage of images of war and suffering. It's as pertinent today as it was in the 1930s, if not more so. Does anybody know what film this is from?

How? What makes you so sure?

Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw - Home to Bristol City
Sheaf Saint replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
Another local-ish away game for me would be nice (as I got my wish for Barnsley away in the last round ). Leeds or Huddersfield would be good. Derby isn't far and it would be good to exorcise the ghost of the 2007 play-offs at Pride Park. Rotherham would be great but I can't see them beating Villa tonight. -
Well I did notice that the fans singing the song were mis-pronouncing his name as well. He comes from Latin America and they pronounce 'CH' in the same way we would pronounce 'CK'. It's quite embarrassing that we can't even pronounce our own manager's name correctly when singing it.

You are missing the point entirely here. The OP simply wanted to start a discussion about the fact that the quality of the food available has dropped dramatically while the price of it has increased. I bought a burger at Barnsley last night and it was bloody awful. Nobody forced me to buy it either, I simply chose to because it was easier than driving around for ages before the game trying to find somewhere else to get some hot food. I imagine many people are in the same situation. The other point here though, is that if the club actually offered good quality food in the concourse then perhaps more people would be inclined to buy it and thus increase the revenue stream to the club. If you know the food is rubbish then you will try to find alternatives before going to the game, but if you know the pies/pasties/burgers are all decent quality then you will be more inclined to buy them there. It's a perfectly valid discussion.

It's not often you will find me defending Alpine, but he has a valid point. An 'OK' 2nd-half performance against a team bottom of the Championship is the absolute minimum we should be expecting from a £12m Uruguayan international.

Dear lord, how hard can it be to get our manager's name right?

All of the rhetoric on the radio this morning is eerily reminiscent of the events running up to the invasion of Iraq 10 years ago, and it seems that Cameron has already made up his mind that we need to intervene, with or without a UN mandate. The British public will have learned the lesson from last time (I hope). If the government intend to commit out armed forces to operations in Syria we need to be shown concrete evidence that Assad's army was responsible for the chemical attack, not dodgy dossiers and sexed-up intelligence that will be proven false in years to come. The humanitarian disaster that is happening in Syria is shocking and saddening, but I fear that if we and the rest of the UN countries get involved it will just be another Iraq/Afghanistan. Rather than making Syria a safer place for the people that live there, the country will descend into turmoil and years of civil war. I also have grave concerns about the fact that we appear to be supporting Al-Qaida who are the main proponents of the opposition forces. If so then what exactly was the point of the the billions of pounds spent and the hundreds of lives sacrificed in Afghanistan over the last 12 years?

The one to the tune of the Inspiral Carpets you mean? I couldn't make out all the words, but you would think wish our fans would learn how to pronounce our manager's name properly.

I'm not sure what wavelength Maya was on tonight though... seems like he is still a little jet-lagged. Got caught napping two or three times in the first half and just stood off and let Dawson have a crack for their goal. He was well off the pace and on tonight's performances I would much rather have Fonte lining up alongside Lovren at Norwich on saturday.
-
Gaston wasn't that good tonight - he was very pedestrian in the first half and still gave the ball away too cheaply at times. Mayuka made some great runs and deserved his goal, he took it really well. Cracking finish from Jay-Rod as well. Should be a big confidence booster for him. I thought Isgrove had a very good game. Switched to the left for the second half and he got in behind their defence two or three times and caused problems. Rowe looked very lively when he came on but didn't really see enough of the ball. He had a great chance to score when the ball ricocheted to him after a strong run into the box from Mayuka, but he hit it a little too close to the keeper who saved well.

Wasn't in the game at all in the first half tonight, but same alive a little more when he moved to the centre of the 3 in the 2nd. Didn't see his goal (I left to beat the traffic after Davis put the penalty away). He played some neat stuff but he still gets harassed off the ball too easily. He needs to be more determined to get past his man instead of just waiting to get fouled. Overall he was effective tonight, but let's remember this Barnsley team had leaked 12 goals in 3 games prior to today.
