It's certainly an issue. We need to get shot of Gazza, Jos and Guly. I don't rate JWP at all, either a loan or sell him for a million. I think people try to rate him as a good player, as he's an academy product, but he really brings nothing to the table. As I've said before, we need 4/5 players of the same sort of quality as Lovren, which is obviously easier said than done.

So finishing above Man U is more important than silverware?
Saint_Tony replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
We can only hope MP learns from this, many other managers are guilty of the same thing. -
He won the ball yesterday before the goal, it was a half hearted attempt by Wanyama (who was the worst player on the pitch yesterday) that causes the goal. I prefer to focus on my favourite Jos moment being the goal against West Ham at home. That was the night I realised promotion was a definite possibility. He's a great guy, but out of his depth at this level. He could certainly do a decent job for a Championship side for a few years

We've all had a day to sleep on it. I still feel gutted and disappointed in MP and the team after yesterday. Haven't been so devastated since the day we went down, which says a lot.I don't feel that anything posted on here yesterday was an overreaction. The club really let all of us down as fans. I can accept defeat, but not in the manner we carried it out yesterday. MP is clearly a top manager but he got it horribly wrong yesterday. I was really looking forward to the game and it was a massive let down
-
I think for the first time this season, the usual angry reaction threads are fully justified. I'm absolutely furious with MP's attitide towards the game, and the performance in general. There can be no excuses, today was massive for us as fans, but others decided otherwise
-
Worst performance of the season by some distance, shocking. The one game that matters yet we don't look interested at all
-
Any news on Fonte yet? And also, any chance of the game being called off?
-
Yeah it's been the same for the last 2 cup games, in which strong sides were put out. It's nothing to worry about
-
You're forgetting that he'll be the 'experienced player in the changing room'. Always vital for a World Cup;) Would love to see Shaw and Clyne go, but for me they're both 25/1 outsiders
-
It's interesting that Hodgson is making more references to players starting for their clubs. Hopefully he shows some bottle and actually applies this rule though.

why league season isn't ordinary - Man U's rivals?
Saint_Tony replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
We're not really competing with Man United, let's be honest. Come the end of the season they will have 10-15 points more than us. And I don't think Turkish said that either, he's just a realist like myself who can see how far we are off getting into the top 6 with our squad. I was of the belief that 7th was the highest we could possibly get, but more likely 8th-10th as did most people, and that looks to be the case. It's been a great season so far, and could get better, but we are still 4/5 quality signings minimum, from breaking the top 6 and possibly being considered as Man Utd's 'rivals' -
Saints players to make the England world cup squad
Saint_Tony replied to stockbridge_saint's topic in The Saints
The thing is theres already tok many midfielders who will definitely get picked - Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Wilshere. Then players like Henderson, Cleverley (hope not), Barkley and Oxlade-Chamberlain .It doesn't leave much space. I think Lallana, Lambert and J Rod will make the provisional 30, Lallana 80% chance of making the 23, Lambert 50%, J Rod 10% -
Really looking forward to this, not normally bothered about cups but the competition could open up nicely with 2 of the top 4 sides left in guaranteed to be knocked out. Hopefully having an extra days rest with Sunderland playing tonight will work to our advantage. You'd think they won't want a replay so we need to go out all guns blazing like we did last time and try and kill the game off in an hour. Should be an unchanged side, Cork ran the show against them last time so has to start. I

Has there ever been a closer knit Saints side........
Saint_Tony replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
I don't think you can underestimate the effect that good team spirit has on a side. You can see that we have a close knit group and that a lot of the side have been on the same journey to where we are now. -
Great win, we seem to be getting back to where we were 3 months ago. On the pre-match thread I was called arrogant for claiming defeat would be unacceptable. I was just of the belief that if we played to our best ability then we should win the game. Looking forward to Saturday now, got an extra days rest too. Hopefully Sunderland get run ragged by City
-
Good to see. Its only every so often we have 3 games in a week. A defeat with that side out will be unacceptable
-
Surely Gallagher won't be ready to return tonight? I'm not one for resting players but I'd start Rickie on the bench Boruc Clyne Fonte Jos Shaw Wanyama Schnederlin Guly Davis Lallana J Rod That team should be good enough to scrape a point. If Big Vic and Cork can't play together, I'd rather Cork plays on Saturday. And Tuesday night v Hull = Goal for Hooiveld
-
Still don't get the obsession with resting players. Several of our squad should be more than used to playing 3 times in a week. Plus given the current state of our squad, there's not much of an opportunity to make too many changes.
-
Got a feeling we might lose this 2-1. Hull had a decent win yesterday, and they have improved a lot since when we last played them and we were arguably playing at our peak then
-
No ones ever going to look back and remember the amazing season we finished 9th. They will remember the day we beat Chelsea in the FA cup final though
-
It's not a sideshow given our league position, it's a massive opportunity and undoubtedly is the biggest game of the season. We owe Sunderland a beating too
-
Not our best performance, but it's difficult to get too disappointed. We're going to be safe in the league, and I won't be overly upset when we lose on Tuesday, as long as we beat Sunderland in the cup. Last week we had 3 forward players who should all go to Brazil, this week we're questioning why a striker wasn't signed in the transfer window. Typical knee jerk reaction on here as usual
-
13 conceded in 12 is very impressive. Remember back in 1995-2005 we'd be lucky to get 2 away wins a season
-
Could be interesting to see if Terry gets a recall. His best days are behind him, but we're so short on decent cover at centre back and his partnership with Cahill has been rock solid for the last 10 or so games Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk

Not been overly impressed with him, understandably he's no longer in the starting 11. I think we'd all like to think he is one for the future, but I'm not convinced. His dead ball delivery is good, but how many goals and assists does he have? He was very poor against Burnley, although in fairness to him he was playing on the right which doesn't seem to be his best position. Think he will end up in the Championship Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk
