  1. Cortese was in the Itchen as the players came out with the tinpot trophy. As it all started to die down he walked back past towards the corporate area so I gave him a tap on the shoulder and said "thank you"
  2. Come along and spend the entire match booing them then.
  3. I'm assuming there's not going to be a strict formation as such, since there's currently three right backs and only two midfielders (well, three if you count Tessem, but that only leaves one striker!) Presumably more announcements to come... Hell, it's going to be a long, football-less Summer so any excuse to get down to St. Mary's is a welcome one as far as I'm concerned. If people are concerned about it 'weakening' Saturday's celebrations that's just churlish. Nothing to say that you can't still go all-out - no doubt the current first team will be! It's a generous optional extra and nothing more. I personally plan to use it as a bit of casual fun to take my mind off of the inevitable hangover monkey of 'King Kong' proportions that'll be residing on my head
  4. A quick thought - if there's not to be a collection on Saturday, would it be worth trying to organise something for the 'All Star' match on Sunday? I'm sure there's plenty of fans that would be willing to contribute but won't hear about this via Facebook/Twitter/the forum and it's pretty much the last chance before the new season.
  5. Living in the city centre has made me a bit lazy with matchday preparations (usually just roll up about 15 mins before KO ), so I'm open to suggestions as to where the best pre-game atmosphere is likely to be. Guide Dog? The Alex? King Alfred? Somewhere on Oxford Street? All of the above? My girlfriend was nearly as chuffed as me today(!) so she's a shoo-in for my second ticket. Intend to get out of the house and onto the booze for midday at the latest (wherever we start out) and grab an extra cheeky pint at the ground if there's time to spare. Apparently I'm getting an all expenses paid meal afterwards (courtesy of my aforementioned partner), then back out to wherever the night takes us It's going to be a massive party regardless, but it'd be fantastic to wrap the season up with one more win. Sunday will almost certainly feature a painful and hard-earned hangover to end them all!
  6. Altering it to 'Saints' would make sense, but it's happened all season so I doubt the chants will change for one match...
  7. Though it's unfortunate that the club dragged their heels, the first home game of next season will roughly tally with the anniversary of Markus' passing and as such would be a fitting time to unveil the flag (especially if progress has been made towards the 5-year plan by then).
  8. Donated, tweeted and posted to Facebook Sounds like it's going pretty well so far. Decent effort on the site by the way - there's a good framework there to add more content as you get it.
  9. Agree with the consensus of the thread, but even if you could get everybody on here to agree to it there'll be a majority of people at the Plymouth game that don't read Saintsweb. Plus some people will do it anyway, because they're hooligans Regardless, let's get the 3 points first...
  10. Haha, need a third option in that poll. Nearly there though!
  11. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Hope that we have plenty to celebrate and that the capacity crowd will be up for the occasion I plan to make a long day out of it either way!
  12. He's let in so many goals and messed up so many times that we have a +41 goal difference... I don't think anybody in their right mind would compare the two goalkeepers mentioned, but that doesn't take the achievement away, relative to our current position. Yes, Kelvin is beaten too often at the near post, but counter that with the number of intelligent, athletic saves he pulls out and I think you can say it more than evens itself. Perhaps the reason that fans of other teams occasionally call us arrogant is that some of us come out with nonsense like this. Like players in many other positions on the pitch, if he was that high above League One ability, he wouldn't be playing for us. Until we're promoted we're still a third division club, let's not forget that.
  13. Surely we'll do OK for attendance? Take tomorrow (oh, today now actually) for example - if we can't bring in 25k or more on a sunny bank holiday, at the business end of the season with this much to play for, it's kind of a sad indictment of our fanbase. Our current average for home games this season apparently sits at just under 22k (http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/attend.html) and you would imagine that the buzz of a promotion push would raise above that for the last two. I don't know, maybe that's too harsh a comment, but if we keep on as we are, the potential for a party atmosphere at the final home game will surely be too good to miss out on.
  14. I'm pretty sure I could make it next week too, although it depends whether my posts being ignored so far in this thread is merely an oversight or intentional!
  15. The hash tags are just used to start or contribute to a trending topic, like ours is #saintsfc. If you search for '#saintsfc' you'll then find a load of tweets by people talking about us. Twitter can be as banal or absorbing as you make it really - depends how much time you're willing to invest and who you follow. If anyone wants to follow a fellow supporter I'm on there as antonydjames
  16. Likewise from me, if newcomers are definitely OK Can put me down as a definite - haven't played for a couple of months so I'm aching for a decent kickabout. I was looking for a TSF football thread a while ago and was surprised not to see one so hopefully this can become regular again.
  17. If the fixture had been during our unbeaten run I'd have been more likely to back us to nick in and take the three points, but recent performances have looked uninspired and (dare I say it) weary. Personally I think we should have sneaked the win in the fixture at St. Mary's, but they're an intelligent and disciplined side that could well pick us off. Anything other than a loss would be a bonus in my eyes as I don't think there's any question of them taking their foot off the gas.
  18. Bearing in mind that we were just above the relegation zone at the point Adkins joined (unless my memory has completely failed me), I think we should absolutely be thanking our lucky stars that we're battling for what we are at this point. Second place would be bloody brilliant and quite possibly deserved, but only if we can deliver the necessary results in the final five games. I love how people talk in definitives on here - as if there's no chance we'll sneak up if we stuff up second place. Anything could happen in the next few games and probably will FFS! Let's just get behind the lads and see where it takes us.
  19. Fully agreed. He showed a level of desire that had been massively lacking in the majority of the team towards the end of the second half. Could be an important attribute in the last few games. The thing that gets me is that he's physically diminuitive, but always makes a nuisance of himself regardless of that.
  20. Somebody had better intercept that delivery of cyanide pills now... Let's be fair, it didn't look good at 2-0 down, but there was definitely the sense in the ground that if we got one we could sneak another. A mental 11 minutes and very tense end to the game, but the buzz afterwards was worth all of it.
  21. It's interesting that the boo boys have gone a bit quiet on him! Fickle? Never

    Owls talk

Yep, it was really fun today Personally I'm always up for singing all game, every game but it's tough when nobody around you is up for it. Today was a nice change from the average game. There has been a bit of tendency in recent home matches to berate the team when they're struggling rather than to get behind them, so it was heartening to see us take the lead not long after St. Mary's started rocking. As for the slow version of OWTS, I thought some very commendable efforts were made - not least when the same donkeys kept banging the backboards to try to speed it up. Pretty sure that it was sung slowly about four times in a row at one point, which isn't half bad considering that twice is normally a struggle!
  23. How many of you declaring this to be the end of our season were actually at the match tonight? A simple question, not intending to inflame.
  24. Completely agree and that was sort of implied in what I originally said - incidents were missed that affected both teams. Of course that's neither here nor there really - you're taught as a nipper to play to the whistle and we'd have done well to remember that bit of advice
