Solent are meant to be providing live commentary of all Saints matches for 'Saints Player' so I would have thought they would broadcast it on their own station as well.

I'm not trying to create any animosity towards Stern. I have wished him a speedy recovery from his broken arm/elbow and thanked him for giving us the opportunity to sign Lambert.

Two of the back 5 are new and another didn't play at all last season, so i think they need match practise to gel into a unit (even though I also hope we sign a new CB before midday Friday). Also, Lambert needs to strike up an understanding with his first choice partner. I would also like to see if Gillett and Spiderman can get their CM partnership clicking again (again, even though I also would like to see another CM come in this week). Other than that, I agree with Thomson and Holmes at RM and LM.

I would hope not but there were plenty of people bemoaning the fact he left and, I said above, I seriously doubt we would have signed Lambert with Stern, Rasiak and Saga all on our books. Just pointing out that some seemingly bad things can have a very good end result is all.

Strangely, it worked perfectly fine today but didn't want to know when the match was on on Saturday. I hope it works okay tomorrow!

Kind of agree, except: I think Mills is Harding's cover at LB (as well as probably being the first choice Lm at the moment). James can also cover RM and CM. We definitely need a ood solid CB who (IMO) should partner Thomas leaving Perry as Number one CB cover and Lancashire as 4th choice. In fact, ideally, I would rather we signed 2 new CBs but I suppose we could always bring a loan in if the new one or Thomas were to be out for any length of time. (I don't want us to even have Lancashire on the bench this season.)

Only if you are thinking of having Stern as back-up, as I think the two togehter would have meant a definite lack of pace up front. Indeed, I am still hoping that we sign this lad from Luton (or someone else pacey) to play alongside Lambert. Paterson seems like a good prospect, but I don't think we should rely on him for the full season.

If you were given the option, even a few weeks ago, of who you would rather have had leading our line this season would it have been Rickie Lambert or Stern John? For me, it is Rickie all the way and I very much doubt we would have signed him if Stern had stayed. So, thanks for boggin' of to Palace Stern (and I hope your arm heals soon). Clouds, silver linings, and all that!!

According to Wiki he is still a free agent. TBH, I wouldn't mind him back here now we have a decent manager and a decent LB (allowing him to play higher up the field, as he should have always done when he was here).

Well said. You could also add to that, 'League 1/2 clubs would win the FA Cup every year'. I never have got this 'you need big strong meatheads in lower divisions, not skillful players' arguement. As Lawrie once said, you need violinists and road sweepers. Its getting the correct formula that matters.

I didn't like the kit when I first saw it, and still don't on the OS pics advertising it, but I thought it looked quite good on the pics from the Ajax game. Maybe I am getting used to it? Anyway, Mrs Minsk likes it so I might ask Santa to bring it to me for Xmas.

Correct, apart from the fact that Latvia weren't in the EU then so it would have made no difference. And on the main topic of this thread: In the 'Pardew read for the off' article on the OS he (AP) states the club have been trying to 'broker a deal' with Jaidi but haven't reached an agreement yet. He also says that the chance of signing him hasn't gone away for good. So it seems that all this talk of work permits is hairy, dangly, male appendages and we simply haven't agreed terms with Jaidi. N.B. As far as I can see this is the only mention on the OS about us and Jaidi. So it seems the club aren't fobbing us off and many on here were getting their knickers in a twist over nothing (as per usual).

I don't think it is necessarily that there is a difficulty in signing players now, just that AP has had to assess everything and that there may be better options available very soon. He (AP) did say that he would look at Bosmans first and had asked some clubs about certain players. He also mentioned loans. The better loans (and perhaps permanent signings) are generally not available until the host club has finished their own transfer dealings. I may feel like you if no one else comes in by August 30th, but I am sure we will see reinforcements here and a team high enough up the table to be attractive in the January sales (for that final push into the play-offs).

I don't know whether Jaidi will sign today or not, but I will be happy if he puts pen to paper by midday tomorrow (the cut off for him being legible to play on Saturday). I believe he has been training with us since Tuesday, so no need to worry on that front.

Personally I hated it when he was captain and always thought there were better options.
