Cheers Baj!! We had an ex-pat get together this evening for St George's Day; which meant I had to go out at half-time - feeling very upset. The other Saints fan here arrived late, having heard (just before he left home) that we had pulled it back to 1-1. Got home, straight on here to find our comeback was even better AND to see the goals!!! Excellent!!!!!!!!!!

There's lots of them going around here. Wife and daughter have both had one in the past month. Go to the doc, get anti-biotics. You will fell better in 3-4 days but finish the course of anti-biotics (7-10 days) or it will come back. Oh, and no alcohol whilst taking them. Or stop whinging and keep drinking.

3 men have been arrested, 1 (at least) of whom has confessed to this bombing and 2 others (in 2005 and 2008, neither caused fatlities). All 3 are factory workers - electrician/lathe operator. People here are still very nervous about the metro though. Thanks for all the kind words above.

One of my students received a call during this evening's lesson (which she left the room to take - I teach adults). When she came back in she was as white as a sheet and shaking like a leaf, so I sat her down and asked what was wrong. She had just been told that a good friend from uni (which she finished last year) has had both legs amputated following injuries received yesterday. Fair play to her, she then stayed until the end of the lesson; which must have been hard as we were doing first aid.

This morning reporting 12 dead, so not (quite) as bad as first thought. Apparently it was hard to tell with limbs and body parts all over the place. Alledgedly, it was a bomb left on the platform. I am at a loss to think who could be responsible for this.....

I have been busily texting friends, colleagues and students all evening. Thankfully, all (so far) are okay. My thoughts and prayers are with those not so lucky.

We are all in shock over here. No one has any idea as to who would do such a thing. Local news says (at the moment) 15 dead, 11 in intensive care, 128 others injured. Had it been Tuesday - Friday I would have been very close to where the blast happened at that time; maybe even on that exact metro station (the school I teach at is next to it, and lessons those days start at 1800 - blast was at 1745ish).

Don't know if things have changed in the past 7 years, but when I was in..... Gangway staff (x2) would be armed at all times; an additional armed sentry would be used when not in a naval port (i.e. Southampton). MOD Plod boat would be around 24/7.

Yep, I was armed with a 9mm as QM on Cornwall in '88/'89. I also remember the GPMGs. I am also sure the suicide was on a Guzz ship.
