Realistic target placing next season - current squad?
Turkish replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Oh no NIckG!! The OP said 'what is your personal view' so therefore your view, not Cortese is last seasons squad was good enough to finish higher than this seasons squad currently are. You must be furious at the way things are going. -
Realistic target placing next season - current squad?

Nick G will be. We currently sit bottom of his realistic target for this season prediction based on the squad before we signed Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo. He must be very disappointed. -
Are we one of the hardest teams to beat in the league?

I didn't, quite a few did and I for loads of abuse for pointing out they were wrong. -

Fair play to Jose, said Oscar deserves to be booked and it was a dive, was a good Decision by the ref and yellow cards should be shown more for diving.
-
Well beaten by a very good side playing very well, did well first half and well into the game until their lucky first goal. looked very tired second.
-
What's the ref done wrong? A great call to book Oscar and been pretty good. We've lost to a very good side who played very well whose goalscorers cost a combined fee of £100m.
-
Lambert just had a header saved from inside the box.
-
As some of us said all along, hey Baz.
-
Very good goal to be fair.
-
Great refereeing!!!

Vincent Tan tells Malky Mackay to resign - or he'll be sacked

You certainly have pal. I put £100 on when he was 8/1 back then, looking forward to the visit to the bookies tomorrow. -
Hes great until he gets a aight of goal.

And the time will come when he stops pulling on the saints shirt. So do we want cortese to implement the Southampton way and be ruthless, sell him while we can make a few quid and getting a high earner who is Arguably in decline off the wage bill, of of we keep him and have misty eyed romantic notion that he'll always be as good as he was in his prime, that he'll continue to confound the doubters and fire us to champions league glory? Ruthless or romantic?
-
It does amuse me how people hail Cortese ruthlessness and how this is the much heralded 'Southampton way' yet not when it comes to their favourite players. When its them it should be down to the player what they want to so and we should keep him out of sentiment no matter what. This seemed to come into play with Osvaldo, if he came in for Rodriguez they would be fine, despite him being far more effective than Lambert this season, however if he replaced Rickie in the side it was a disgrace or they can play together. Surely if lambert is sold this would be a good thing and show we are not frightend to move players on when they've done their bit and before we have aging players with high wages blocking the path of younger players, It would only emphasis even further Corteses ruthless nature which is so fantastic when it suits what people want. It seems to me the people holding the Southampton way back are the fans that only want it when it suits them.

Happy new year people. Good to see when everyone else is celebrating the mods are quick to lock any rogue threads, like the Old bill, they're never off duty.
-
And that's the point, we're building a team. Rickie has been great for us but he's 32, do you really think he can still do what he does in two years time? I love Rickie as much as anyone but looking at the bigger picture you have to wonder where he fits in moving forward. Our tactics now don't really suit him and I can only see him being used more and more sparingly over the coming year or so.

Cortese needs to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk.
-
The transfer window is now open and we are fannying about as usual. Of Cortese is serious about a top 4 finish he needs to crack on and get in a new keeper, new centre back, new pacey wideman and a new big man up top. I can see its our usual tactic of last minute panic buys after fannying around all window.

Arguably we already have. Rodriguez is showing signs of being capable of this and he cost £7m, so for starters him.
