The way I see it is, if you can't handle the extra demands on the squad of the Europa League and still maintain your top 7 position (or better) in the Premier League, then you aint ever gonna be ready for the Champions League. For me, it's a step that's necessary; can you imagine going straight into the CL? What it should give us is a better class of player wanting to come here, but, we have to get those players in much earlier for the EL. Not good waiting until deadline day if we're out of the EL by then.

All good points, but, I feel that it's not just about the keeper. In those most recent games we haven't had our strongest defence and defensive midfield on the pitch. At the end of the day, backup for schneiderlin/wanyama was deemed to be Toby. Toby's backup is Yoshida. Forster's backup is Davis. None of them are as good as the players they stood in for. That's the crux of it. Edit: We somehow won at Newcastle without Schneiderlin, Wanyama AND Toby, but Newcastle have shown themselves to be absolute cack and Elia actually produced something that day.

Yes, but also during that time haven't we had Toby out, Morgan out and Wanyama out? Anyway, we've been poor up front since the end of Jan.

Not having a second striker is a bigger downfall imo. Pelle stopped scoring, hardly anyone else did, results dried up, we've struggled ever since.
