You'd have thought that a new manager would want to see what players are at his (possible) disposal. I don't know the details of the loan, but whatever, I think Billy could be useful coming off the bench in a situation where we're pinging balls into the box late in the game to try to get an equaliser or even a winner. He's a poacher and knows where the net is, gotta give him that.

Frank Worthington Andy cook And who was that winger that played for us in the late 80’s I think it was. Good prospect that never really made it. Ah, was it Neil Heaney?

MP: you don't know this yet jos, but I've covered all the mats in superglue. Mwuhahahahahhhaa

Is it bizarre? Maybe Chaplow had a reaction to the game and was asked to come in next day to assess it again in the morning, and as the first team had the day off, he trained with the youth. Just a thought.

Are people beginning to see what Cortese is up to?
Webby replied to ByTheGolacs's topic in The Saints
Just been thinking about cortese's vision. How do you compete with the best, on the field? You need better and better players, simple as that. The question is, how do you get those players? Firstly, you need the money. It would appear that we have that, but that's obviously not enough on its own. You need to show ambition. We are doing that, but to a player, that can probably be seen as 'talk'. How do you make a player believe you're going places and that you mean it? You can show them the oft talked about DVD and the stadium expansion plans. That might help, but also, I think that the first step to becoming a bigger club is to act like a bigger club. We are showing interest in big name players, players that are linked to bigger clubs such as Liverpool for instance. Now, even if we have no hope of getting them, it looks good and it has a knock on effect. We're fishing in the lake now instead of the pond. I think that this is the difference that MP will make over NA. -
Sounds like he's Cortese in a Tracksuit.

Like. Ok, so we have Tino, Mo-Po, Pinocchio, Pistachio, MP. Any others?

Nah, what he said was 'theh theh theh theh theh theh theh', and Ricky replied 'Scorchio'

Early days but could you see the changes with MP tonight?

Ramirez. Still gives the ball away too much. I'm still waiting for him to 'explode'. -
I'm wondering whether this was actually meant to be announced on Friday. I've asked if anyone knows if NC was actually in the country but haven't had an answer. What if NC was going to make this change on Tuesday morning? There's no game next Saturday which would've left MP a little more time to work with his new team. Maybe too many journos got wind of it and forced his hand?

Actually, the photo caption kind of misquotes Matt. Photo caption: Arrogant: Nicola Cortese (right) Saints Chairman has made some bad decisions since arriving at the club While Le Tissier said: 'It is a little bit bizarre, but some of the decisions that have been made have been a little bit bizarre since the current chairman took over.' So, that caption should say 'bizarre'. Personally, I don't care if he does have an ego; I'd be surprised if he didn't. I don't think it's relevant to Nigel's sacking though, so I don't see the point in him bringing it up. I do not forget what Matt did for this club in his heyday. I enjoyed every minute of it.
-
Let's say he has an ego and he stayed cos of the reason I stated above. It doesn't bother me. I idolised him. Fantastic player. Whatever his reasons for being a one club man, we all benefitted. I'm just saying that that situation may have suited someone who had an ego.
-
What's better for your ego than being the biggest fish in the pond?

And to continue with that analogy, if the restaurant owner has ambitions of a Michelin star and decides to sack the chef and bring in another in an effort to achieve that, that's surely his perogative. The only thing that we the customers should notice is an improved product if his decision was right. That, and a higher price for the meal!

Is Cortese in the country? I only ask cos there's talk of phone calls to Lallana and such. So, does anyone know that he's here?

The Mirror: 'Tensions over transfers saw Adkins sacked'
Webby replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
That's probably about right. I think the 'one, maybe two keepers' possibly meant 'I want one, and NC wants another', ie NA wanted gazza, NC wanted Butland. Eventually, NC baulked at the price for Butland (I'm guessing). Then, as you say Saint_db, NC got Boruc in. Either way, it was a mistake not to replace Davis. Fox, who's also not good enough was also not replaced.
