Love it! I'm a huge fan of the vast majority of Miles' work. Certainly 'Brew' is less accessible than 'Birth of the Cool' but if Miles had spent his career churning out endless easy listening jazz he wouldn't be remembered as a pioneer and as one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. How do you get on with 'In a Silent Way' Hamilton Saint? For me, 'Brew' follows on from where 'In a Silent Way' left off and pushes the envelope further. IMHO it is meant to challenge you and take you on a disturbing journey through a range of emotions. At times I find it quite uncomfortable listening and I feel uneasy and edgy, but then the mood changes and a short intercession induces feelings of harmony and resolution before all too suddenly we're off into the next excursion into the unknown. I try to treat it (and all music) as a journey; it isn't always going to be pleasant, in fact at times it can be a little scary but I find the more that music challenges me as the listener, the more involved I can become and the more I can potentially get out of it. If you find yourself thinking "stop the ride, I want to get off" you're in exactly the place that Miles wants you to be. I would say try to relax, but I don't think that's the point. Don't relax until Miles induces you to.......but it won't last......soon you'll be feeling lost and out of control again. All IMHO of course.

The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread
Block 5 replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
It's sad when the Official Summer Transfers & HCDAJFU thread starts it's inevitable slide down the forum into digital oblivion. Before it disappears completely and we admit Winter is nearly here, let's remember the good times. My own favourite moment was when I read that Michael Owen was coming to SMS. Any others? -
No offence Topcat but what is your source? There is nothing on the Echo website. You state that 'the Echo has been advised by the club' and in the very next sentence you are referring to 'rumours'. Which is it? A statement from the club or rumours? I'm with Duncan on this one, until real facts emerge (and there is a distinct chance that they NEVER will) we should be careful what we believe. I saw Peter Mandelson, Nicola Cortese and Simon Carter in Starbucks this morning etc etc.

Good points, well made Benji. Except for the fishy bit.

Tend to agree with you there Alps. When I heard the news yesterday I assumed that NC already had someone lined up and a swift transfer of power would mean no great impact on stability. However, subsequent statements (coupled with the usual speculation) lead me to believe that we could be 'rudderless' for a while. Surely, this is bound to impact on the players?

Before the season started most of us (and the media) assumed that we were a shoe in for automatic promotion or if not, play-offs at the very least. In light of yesterday's events and bearing in mind our current state of managerless limbo how many of you are still confident that we will be promoted this year? Perhaps the mods could arrange a poll along the lines of; 1. Automatic promotion. 2. Play-offs. 3. Mid table mediocrity. 4. Me and my hosepipe are driving to the lonely lane.

Will you sell kebabs too Deppo? And can you wander round to the Itchen?

Was Stan Collymore in the same deserted car park?

I agree. However beating Swindon convincingly on Tuesday will be the confidence boost we need at home. AP wants the same. It's about winning, no matter what competition we're in.

I agree with you (for once!) about 'The Hangover' - absolutely brilliant comedy. And on the subject of American films, I really enjoyed 'Kick Ass' as well (we're on a roll here GM). Also, 'Hot Tub Time Machine' is a good laugh too, if you haven't seen it yet then do it. But I reckon 'Four Lions' (directed by Chris Morris) is the funniest film of the year by a country mile. Here's a trailer: [video=youtube;yGk2TojOd-4] Other films worth a mention are: 'Ponyo'. 'Toy Story 3'. 'Inception'.

Edit.

Of course we all care about the future development of younger players, however right now I am a little more concerned about our inability to score goals that win games. Apologies, I have a bee in my bonnet today.

Good news for those who give a shoyte about a team of kids who don't play any competitive games at all but who may one day break into our first team.

Avoid 'Last of the Airbenders 3D' at all costs. This is probably the worst pile of shoyte I've ever seen. I was asleep within 20 minutes. Even the kids thought it was utter guff.
