Sly and the Family Stone: excellent band.
Mainly remembered for 'It's a Family Affair' on the 'There's a Riot Goin On' album and 'Everyday People' from 'Stand!'.
Often overlooked is their debut album from 1967 (such a good year for music) 'A Whole New Thing'; this is my personal favourite.
It's from that transitionary period when soul was starting to morph into funkier more experimental areas (mirroring the change in rock and pop) as artists began trying psychedelics!
I agree with your comment about Sly's voice, incredible.
I would have to say JB or Eddie Bo are just as funky, and what about George Clinton????
