I'd like to see him show some of the form that's got him an international call up. All I've seen is a player who doesn't look anything special at all.

Would've been a much better buy than Long but as other have said, it's too late now. The other thing to consider is whether he'd be willing come to us? I'm sure there's plenty of other clubs that he'd rather go to and that will be prepared to pay silly wages. Being realistic, Long is about as good as we can hope for. It's just a shame that we spent so much on someone who runs around a lot but doesn't seem to be too good at putting the ball on the net.

I can see a last minute deal being struck with Townsend coming to us and Morgan going the other way. If Morgan is going to Spurs (and I think he will) then there's other players I'd rather take from Spurs before Townsend.

Absolute quality??? Average at best from what I saw. The one thing that most of the pundits were saying after Arsenal's game was that they looked defensively poor and Chambers was caught out far too many times.

I'd have thought that wages would be the stumbling block with Agger. I'm still confused as to why Martin Kelly didn't come as part of the deal for Lovren. We wanted him but he turned us down and then went to Cripple Paralysis.

Just reading some of the musicians predictions for the season ahead on the Sky Sports website. Embrace, Passenger, James, Lower Than Atlantis, Fryars and Public Service Broadcasting all predicting that Southampton will be relegated. :-/

Exactly, and that's something he doesn't do particularly well. Remy was going to Liverpool for £8.5m and we've paid £12m for Long. It makes no sense at all. Not impressed but always willing to be proved wrong.

Hilarious. At least I have an opinion and contribute with responses that aren't simply insults. Just because you don't agree with something that's said it doesn't mean you have to start throwing insults. The purpose of a forum is for discussion.

I think you'll find that the likes of Lambert, Sharp & J-Rod had no real top flight experience. Rickie & J-Rod are prime examples that players can make the step up and not cost a fortune.

Please enlighten me how a players value rises by 60% in 8 months with only 15 appearances and 4 goals to his name? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this is an appalling bit of business. I've not spoken to a single person who thinks it's a good deal. A Friend who supports Hull was on the phone ****ing himself laughing. Does that not say something? Ulloa, Ings, Rhodes, Vokes, Deeney. Every one of them could do a job for us and for less money. Yes, they may be a bit of a gamble but isn't that what Long is? His track record suggests so. Even McCormack would've been a better way of spending £12m. I look forward to a load of abuse. If there's one thing this forum is good for it's personal insults and abuse for having an opinion that doesn't fit with the 'in crowd'.

Initially I was disappointed and angry about our move for Shane Long but having had time to reflect and think it over, I'm now ****ing livid. £12m for a player who only moved in January for £7.5m! Are we ****ing mental??? Had he scored 20 in 15 games then maybe but 4 goal in 15 games does not warrant a 60% increase in value. This is nothing more than a panic buy and we've bought someone who is basically a Championship standard striker for £12m quid. The list of players we could've got for a fraction of the price is endless. I'm pretty confident that we could've got 2 strikers of a similar standard from the Championship for far less money. This is an absolute joke. Progress??? **** off! The club is going nowhere. Rant over... for now.

What a joke. He's a £5m player at best. Hull paid too much for him in January and now they've had our pants down. How has his value risen to £12m when he scored 4 times in 15 appearances. The world has gone mad!!! And the club have the nerve to tell us that this is progress.

Just had a text that says we've given Palace permission to talk to Jack Cork. Has anybody else heard this or am I being wound up? I can't find anything on the web other than Sky reporting that Palace are told hold talks with an unnamed midfielder from a rival premiership team.

Can only see this going one way, sadly. Scousehampton will destroy us. We don't look nearly ready and simply don't have the quality to compete. We really struggled against them at St. Mary's last season with a much stronger team and they've improved since then whereas we haven't. Think I might have a few quid on them scoring 4 or more just to soften the blow if it happens.

I'd like to see AB stay. I'm surprised that KD is still here and even more surprised that PG hasn't been sold or loaned out. Wasn't Boruc without a club when he joined us? Now he seems to be wanted by a couple of clubs if rumours are to be believed. He's turned out ok given that he didn't get off to the best of starts with us. Dropped after kicking a water bottle at fans and getting into a verbal altercation with fans who were chanting 'you're only here for the money'. He's a character and you need that around the place.

He seems to be doing a far better job of being open and honest with the fans than RK or LR. I'm pretty sure he'd do a better job of negotiating / persuading players to come to Saints too. His, “First of all you have to know you signed a contract and you have to respect that" statement about MS is spot on. Typical Dutchman, very matter of fact and to the point.
