Wanyama Transfer Rumours - Summer 2015 Edition
hypochondriac replied to brett24's topic in The Saints
Whilst I agree with some of what you say, that old argument of "we would have been happy with that X amount of years ago" is a pretty silly one. -
Not sure about any of you, but the freedom I really miss is the one where I have the freedom to shoot anybody I choose. That darn government getting in the way of my freedoms telling me who I can and can't shoot!

Except it isn't. It fulfills a homegrown slot that Chelsea needs and he is English so will always command a large premium. Much like sterling earlier in the window, this is how much young English players cost.

If you get a moment then download the totalxbmc program and then install the sportsmania skin under community builds. It looks quality.

CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
hypochondriac replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints
He didn't dispute that. -
Pretty sure they do have hbo.

It's quite obvious to me. Berahino is young English and loads of potential plus spurs are desperate to buy. Pedro wasn't a key player at barca because they have a team of stars, is older and isn't English. 25 million seems about right considering what we got for Adam.

Isn't it if it's a different ip though? Same house and you should be fine I think.
-
I very much doubt they would release this sort of information to the public if it was something potentially serious. Most likely just a virus of some sort.
-
Yep this basically. I don't think it's a difficult concept.
-
Why are you worrying about a hypothetical that hasn't happened? We have enough things to concern yourself with without doing that.
-
Yeah I pretty much agree with that (though I reckon it could easily be lower than 12th.) I just think there is a bit of a sense that we have gone for some cheaper options this year and that may have an impact on our performances and ultimately where we end up.
-
I think building on the success of last year and trying to get as close to the performances and results of last year would have been good. Still time of course but I think most people know it's pretty unlikely.
-
Yes that's exactly my point! That's not to say that I don't think some of our buys are quite clever and have good potential but I'm sure we could have looked to sign some exciting signings to complement them like wijnaldum. Other than Mané I don't see much excitement and quality in the team. I don't think that's asking for much or being overly pessimistic, simply wishing that we used a bit more cash to strengthen further and get that class of player a notch or two up from what we've gone for.
-
Again I don't think you understand what I said. I didn't suggest we could keep Schneiderlin and Clyne but I don't think the replacements are up to the same standard. I of course expected us to sign slightly lower quality since its almost impossible to replace Morgan but I think if people are honest with themselves they expected exciting quality on the same level as a Wanyama but I don't think we've got that from this year's transfers. Personally I think going with the cheap and clever buy is a good tactic some of the time but when it's employed for the majority of signings, the danger is that some of them are not going to pay off and you are going to badly miss the quality that has gone. We need to be mixing some of these signings with potential with proper proven quality in the 10-15 million pound bracket if we want to see progression. I won't bother responding to your last comment because it's just silly.

I don't blame kat, it's her money to do with what she wishes and I very much doubt she is withholding finance and pocketing the profit. Having said that I do wish the club would show a bit more ambition. The likes of Newcastle palace and Stoke have made some cracking signings this summer in my opinion. Now that isn't to say that they will finish above us but if we want to keep improving then we need to make signings on that sort of level. Aspirational signings that maybe some believe a club of our stature shouldn't be making.

It's just not as satisfying to watch anymore. That team that came up was ours and we could be rightly proud of them. A group who came up through the leagues together and who I think all saints fans felt close to. It may just be me but I struggle to have the same affinity with some of the mediocrity we have bought in. The likes of Tadic just do not have the same potential as some of those. You just knew that Morgan was a superstar in the making for example. If we are going to sell our best players every year to the point where it's an unprecedented level never seen in the prem before then at a certain point a lot of fans are going to question why they bother. If we don't see saints building on their success and looking to achieve something (a cup for example) then I think it's going to be harder to get up for games and support. Other than the European games which have been great, I've struggled to watch the first three games of this season and that's partly due to what I've already outlined (abd because our okay has been dire).
-
I'm sure I'm not the only one who is worried about the direction our transfer dealings are taking us. You can't stand still in the prem, you should be looking to improve all the time and better teams than us have seen the wheels fall off in the past. It seems to me that not only have we not stood still, we have gone backwards from last year and we haven't used the transfer income nearly as well this season as we did last. As a consequence we have lost that solid defensive base and that air of calmness that we had the entirety of last season. It's a fairly depressing prospect and not a huge amount to look forward to when we already know that mane, Wanyama and possibly Jay rod will be off next summer and replaced with cheaper alternatives. That's not to say that I blame the players but I don't think our recruitment has been up to scratch this summer. The exciting and quality buys like mane Clyne etc haven't materialised this year and I wonder if a season of underperformance will force us to loosen the purse strings next summer? Inevitably if we do this every summer we will face a year that the gambles don't pay off and we end up battling relegation. I hope it's not this year...

Yet another abject performance this season bereft of entertainment. We seem to have lost our identity.

It's the performances that concern me more than the results.
