Where is he going to play? Aribo replacement presumably. Still doesn't get us the creativity we need. I could end up with egg on my face but this is the first signing we've made this summer where I can't see the logic and for the price you can't help but feel that the money could be better spent elsewhere. We've been so careful with our funds in other positions and looked for bargains and shrewd buys. It seems like a complete change of tactics for this one unless we are supremely confident that he's unbelievable.

It's not like we even need a megastar. Someone like Johnstone is clearly an improvement on what we have now. We could have made a signing like that or similar about three years ago and sorted the position. We could have done it in any window once it became obvious that Bazunu wasn't ready to be first choice every week.

The more I look at this signing the more bizarre it seems. Is this just another one of those punts that he might turn into a megastar and we can sell him for big bucks later on? We have a finite budget and it looks like we are using loads of it in a position we don't really need. If this is the Alcaraz replacement then is there much point? Might as well keep him.

I thought we looked great today. Pretty bummed out we took off Sugawara who looked brilliant. No idea why we played Edozie. Bereton Diaz was a nuisance which I like. Still think we need some more quality in attacking areas and McCarthy needs to replaced ASAP.

Personally I'd have preferred it to be 11vs11 for more of the game to see how we shaped up. It's difficult to tell when you play against 10.

One thing this game does highlight is the worry I had before the game about Martin saying he doesn't care about positions. What this means is we have effectively no one up front and we lose the goal threat.

This result is on the senior management team at saints. We've known we needed a keeper for weeks and maybe even months. It's probably the easiest position to get someone half decent for.

If we go down by a point we could point to this game and say that McCarthy has cost us.
