wiki stats has him on 79 goals (in 145 games) for us - don't know if that is up to date? Their list of our top scorers in last 100 years has the following, Steve Moran looks the next target. Can't see him getting much higher with his age and our possible move to premiership. Like MLTs goals before him, his could go down as having a huge place in our history...depnding on the next few weeks! Channon 228 (607 games) MLT 210 (540) Rawlings 193 (364) Paine 187 (815) O'Brien 180 (281) Reeves 173 (311) Day 158 (422) Davies 153 (281) Dominey 146 (369) Chivers 106 (190) Mulgrew 100 (330) Moran 99 (229) Wallace 79 (317) Wayman 77 (107) BT 76 (235) recent others; Bates 64 (216) Boyer 61 (162) Stokes 55 (264) Pahars 45 (146) Shearer 43 (158) other recent

fit for Tuesday!
-
Adkins and Lallana have both said was close for Saturday and should be fit for Saturday. Puncheon was not good on Saturday, but looked good when first came back in, clearly decent player and good enough for back up. The spurs lad has been injured and is now fit again. De Ridder cant even get in the squad - with Lallana injured. Other wide options - Guly, Chaplow, Fox/Harding, changing forward shape with Lee/Sharpe? Can't see Adkins looking to bring another player in now for Lallana.

The meeting with Birch earlier. Just to update you all. (I didn't take notes but will put down the main points and ask for a more thorough report from Bill later) - Birch will be asking the Football League to release a sum of money that would keep Pompey going until the end of the season. If the FL say "no" then the club's money will run out in early/mid April unless player deals can be done. - On the topic of player deals, clubs have expressed an interest in the players that Pompey don't want to lose. Birch has tried to offload the other high earners but hasn't been able to. There is a chance that he might try to agree mutual severance packages with players if it comes to it. - There are no serious buyers currently interested in buying the club. Birch was hoping that the statement he released during the week would flush out any potential buyers. - However, Balram Chainrai is interested in buying the club and wants to meet with Birch. - Out of interest, Birch asked the group if Chainrai was the only alternative then would we prefer the club to go forward with Chainrai or risk liquidation? Two tentative hands were raised in favour of Chainrai with the rest saying no. - Birch also suggested that rather than channel funds and energy into trying to keep the club afloat (as it will be going into a black hole), it would be more productive to save up for starting anew. My personal view, reading between the lines is that Birch believes that this will be the end and he wanted to guage fans' opinion on liquidation. Speaking to Ken Malley from FSF after the meeting, he told me that if we were to start a new club then the deadline for registration is 1st of May. Given that there is this three week period to set up the new club, the old one would effectively have to be liquidated at the start of April for a new one to be in place for next season. I think that's the bulk of it. I think Birch said it best when he stated that the club is 100m in debt, stands to make a huge loss over the course of the year, doesn't own a ground, doesn't own the land around it, doesn't own an academy and the playing squad is valued at around £2 million. Anyway, here are the full notes from Bill Gillon of PompeyOnline, so credit to him for taking them. Birch has held meetings with the Football League, and learnt last Tuesday that the club will receive no further funds over and above which is already normally due. Birch had hoped for an advance on subs, but the Football League have said the cannot help any further. Despite media hints to the contrary, Birch knew about the situation regarding Gaydamak's money. The club will only be liquidated once Birch does not see cash in the club to go forward, at which point he would bring the club to an 'orderly close', which is part of his duties. Despite talk and rumour to the contrary, Birch is not working solely for the interests of HMRC, but to achieve the best result for all creditors and the club. He made the statements he did earlier this week to, partly, flush out people who have been hovering about and looking at the club and, also, to help concentrate minds. He is still talking to the Football League and is hopeful that, by Monday, he will have had it confirmed that the club will continue to receive it's scheduled monthly distributions. He hopes the club will receive 500k in April, which will ensure things look better as regards getting the club to the end of the season. He is talking to Michael Appleton as regards the player situation. A final option might be to break player contracts, but this is a last resort and it would be treading a fine line, as the Football League could terminate our membership. The question was asked as to whether Chainrai was preparing a bid, and Birch confirmed that he expected to hear from him. He stated that he felt a bid would only go forward if Chainrai's debenture was deemed valid. Birch, no matter what, wants a successful conclusion come what may. There is other interest in the club, and Birch is meeting other people next week. As things currently stand, there is no concrete 'hot to trot' certain commitment. Club costs equate to £3.5m to see the club to the end of June, with a buyer having to fund a loss of £5-10m next year under current contracts and situation. A lawyer's letter has been sent to Chainrai/Portpin, which was sent on Friday. This is to request that Chainrai give his view and justification for the debenture. Birch is now awaiting a reply. There was an issue with the planned price reductions for the Middlesbrough game. Birch has organised working groups for each part of the club operations, and final arrangements for the price reductions had slipped through the net during a busy and short time frame, which Birch apologises for. A discussion took place as regards Chainrai. Gerald Vernon-Jackson confirmed that Chainrai had been talking to him and planned to speak to the administrators. Birch asked for opinions, and a show of hands, as to whether people would prefer a club under Chainrai or liquidation, only one person was in favour of Chainrai involvement (out of around 15-20 people there). The question was also raised as to whether people would be in favour of Chainrai involvement alongside the Trust and, again, this was dismissed as any fan involvement was felt would be minimal and easily overuled. It is confirmed that, as things stand, Chainrai and CSI are the majority creditors. As regards Gaydamak's land, Birch has tried to make contact and left messages with Bruce Van Den Berg but, as things stand, has had no reply. It is confirmed that David Lampitt is dealing with Genoa about monies owed. As things stand, the club has money to survive until mid-April but, as mentioned earlier, it is hoped that, next week, the situation will mean the club will, at least, be able to see out the season. It was decided that, in order to make an attempt to seek information and intent, that a request is made via Gerald Vernon-Jackson to arrange a meeting with Conference representatives and Chainrai. The representatives would be made up of board members of the Trust plus current Conference chair Tony Goodall.

Do think it would be funny if their final gesture of any significance would be to take points off West Ham's total to give us the championship! Wonder how long it would take for kids in portsmouth to start wearing saints shirts? It would happen if we re-establish ourselves as a top tier team and they are no more - might take a while though.

Agree - this country's legislation does not support Christian beliefs more than any other religious beliefs, in fact they make it illegal to do so! There are probably a much lower percentage of 'Christians' in this country, who actively follow their religion than other religions. I know a Sikh family who go carol singing. I love Christmas, do not believe in god. Each to their own. Society has many Christian traditions. I believe in community, and tradition and celebrations. You do not need to agree with the origins to enjoy a festival. Without religion good people do good things, bad people do bad things - religion can make good people do bad things

http://kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=138545&sid=d9f936a009eb977e69654805787849b1 I was looking with a smile at the above thread. Reading the comments from Sam Hoofball and the ones on their forum I watched the BBC link expecting to see him making a meal of it - I can't even see him put his hand once to his face before standing up let alone rolling around holding it. Wondered what people on there are watching???

Birch it is, should be interesting in about 5 days time.....

Birch says can't work with AA as they have very different views on compliance!! what is that saying to the world!!
-
New update - I called him again and asked about the likeliness of liquidation and he said 'the club will definitely not go into liquidation. Though it may go into administration, the club will not go into liquidation.'

If playing well, Ox-C is better RM than JP who is better RM that Guly or Chaplow. Guly is better forward. Chaplow offers more grit energy JP is also very good in CM controlling a game, This is what Adkins is paid a lot of money to sort out! Depends on fitness, form and who we are playing

perhaps a full-member would keep this up to date?

agree. just added 4 to ignore list. this forum is getting pretty crap tho

Celtic being desperate to keep player doing well and so put price at multi-millions - more than similar player will go for in summer
-
Jaidi back in squad Lee Barnard back as well Stephens, Shaw, Ward-Prowse, Reeves all involved today. Depending on Fonte, Lallana and Jos's fitness think that is pretty good squad - especially with loan window opening soon. As quality yes, but no need to panic and decent window so far.
-
is it your time, or money? No - so why worry? chairman get relaxed evening hearing some feedback, maybe sharing a few ideas. fans get a treat and chance to hear some thinking behind the club and voice opinion all get a decent meal I know it shouldn't but still surprises me how desperate some are in trying to find something to moan about in their hobby/entertainment!?
-
Need? Not really. We have a decent squad, it has performed well for over half the season. It has additions and players returning from injuries. There is a loan window opening shortly to deal with unpredictable injuries. I think we roughly need two for each position (although sure we used to have decent seasons without the need for four centre backs??!!) Davis Richardson Jos Fonte Fox Puncheon Cork Schneiderlin Lallana Lambert Lee Is a pretty good notional first team (although waiting to see Lee). That leaves us with a reserve team of Bart Butterfield Martin Jaidi Harding Falque Chaplow Hammond De Ridder Guly Connolly I have included Jaidi as he was given a new contract for this season, and says he is nearly back to full fitness so hopefully up to being a 3rd choice CB. If he is not we are weak at CB. I haven't included Barnard or any youth players. Nor has Holmes made it into the 2nd 11. You also have some adaptable players there who could easily do a job in other positions, Lallana - either wing or forward, Guly RM, Chaplow/Cork RM etc That is a decent squad and probably the only thing I would see as possibly needed is a very quick forward / winger - even as sub. Should we sign anyone else? Yes if we can clearly improve the first 11, possibly if they would improve the 2nd 11. I do think too many changes would be risky for team spirit - like Leicester's start to the season. Someone like Hooper, clearly good enough for first 11 and character Adkins knows fits the bill, so to answer OP, No we don't need anyone else but being greedy always good to see top players sign

If by issue you mean... what chairman is the only one to take a team from minus 10 points at the bottom of league 1 to top of the championship in 2 1/2 years.. or... who is the only chairman who has had 5 transfer windows and move the club forward with signings to a higher level in every single one of them.. then yes the issue is Cortese. Good job idiot fans from here aren't running the club - would have given up on 2nd last year and concentrated on play offs!
