Without wishing to wake up a certain poster... He is the best manager we have had since Hoddle, by a distance IMHO. That about 15 managers, over ten years or more?? He has started the season with results / performances against the Manchester teams that few teams bettered last season -albeit with nothing to show for them. He lost to Wigan in our 2nd game in the premiership, Wigan who finished the season with this run.. H Wolves Won 3-2 A Blackburn Won 0-1 H Newcastle Won 4-0 A Fulham Lost 2-1 A Arsenal Won 1-2 H Man Utd Won 1-0 A Chelsea Lost 2-1 H Stoke Won 2-0 A Liverpool Won 1-2 And there forum has a thread on him being sacked!!

Agree. Look at Man City home last season, 1 draw, no defeats - the rest victories. Averaging 3 goals per game for whole season, Our defence is average!! other notable results for them to compare our performance (and our defence) WBA 4-0, Spurs 3-2, Liverpool 3-0, Norwich 5-1, Newcastle 3-1, Villa 4-1, Swansea 4-0 - our defence is better than WBA, Norwich, Villa and Swansea!! Man Utd, gained more penalties than any other side - maybe our defence not the only mugs, away record 13 victories plus added quite a good forward since, last season away performances to compare with ours Wolves 0-5, Spurs 1-3, Chelsea 3-3, Arsenal 1-2, Fulham 0-5, Bolton 0-5. Add to that Van Persie (not checked but was it 30 goals and 10 assists for a worse side last season. Those two results could argue our defence are average / better than average for the premiership. then there is Wigan..... A few decent away results - Arsenal 1-2, Liverpool 1-2, sunerland 1-2, Bolton 1-2,. Interesting (for stato like me!!) that Wigan finished season like this; H Wolves Won 3-2 A Blackburn Won 0-1 H Newcastle Won 4-0 A Fulham Lost 2-1 A Arsenal Won 1-2 H Man Utd Won 1-0 A Chelsea Lost 2-1 H Stoke Won 2-0 A Liverpool Won 1-2 Wigan, who according to many on here is the game we should win if we are going to survive in the premiership, won 7 out of their last 9 premierships games beating Man U, thrashing Newcastle and away at Arsenal and Liverpool. Final Stats to convince you that it is ridiculous to judge the team and write off our LB and CBs on the games so far. What do these teams have in common; Arsenal (GF2, GA5), Blackburn (GF1 GA7), Bolton (GF1 GA9), WBA (GF2 GA8) .....all had 0 points from those fixtures last season. Us this season (GF4 GA . Considering Arsenal lost Van Persie, reckon we are on a par with them now What does this show about how we will do....nothing! All this shows is that it is far too early to judge / write off the team or our defence!!

heard on radio this morning talk of our hard start. think they said that last season finished with the three top current form teams.... man city man united wigan. very very early days.
-
worried m at times on Sunday.. ...however was best LB on the pitch! their weak one couldn't cope with Puncheon!

The 'getting a bit desparate' Centre Back thread.
NickG replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Can't see any new CB playing this weekend. League games then Arsenal on 15 Sept, Villa 22 Sept, Everton 29 Sept. Even if new signing was month of fitness, he would probably only miss two games that a fully fit signing would play in. -
We will surely start with our existing back 5, whoever we sign. Think team will be; 01 K Davis 02 Clyne 05 Hooiveld 06 Fonte 13 Fox 04 Schneiderlin 08 S Davis 20 Lallana 42 Puncheon 07 Lambert 09 Rodriguez With Lee and Mayuka likely to come on (unless we are comfortably ahead) after about 60 mins. Sharp on for a bit a glory to complete the victory and improve our goal difference at the end!
-
if you want to judge our defence in one game, maybe judging them against a forward line that score 11 against man u last season isn't best choice! or maybe makes 3 look ok! child like panic and repeating same views that keep being proven wrong is humourous! look at squad start of each summer window, and league position , then look at start of the next summer window. no chairman, club deserves more confidence from fans. two signings so far look v good.

is your normal reaction to good buys "why the f#ck did we sign him" lol. you are a thick pathetic tool. relax. I shouldn't be that important to you,
-
I will be polite, as know you have problems, and you are bit intellectually slow. you need to get over me. I have posted about 5 times in god knows how long. you completely failed, as you do consistently whenever those more mature or knowledgeable correct you, to deal with any of my points in cb thread. I then see you struggling and snivling on down to earth thread, asking people to play the post not the poster. don't think I am on this thread am I? I won't be here much, win or lose. you won't have to get upset seeing me enjoy wins. you can happily write off players like you have with jay R. I will remember your classics, like give up on promotion to drop to play offs. or moaning that club arent getting good enough rumours. I will post now and again, will view and chuckle at your attention seeking ignorance. have fun!

morning all, few observations; 1) people don't seem to be saying we are short of as many players as they did this time last season, we did ok! 2) every year, the same posters forget that the majority of transfers are late in window. 3) where we were 3 years ago is hugely relevant. Not for sentimental reasons, but because the people you are doubting, questioning, (or strangely in alps case criticising for not even having good rumours???!!) have shown they know what they are doing, more successfully than any club in the country. no club has improved as much summer window, to summer window as us. 4) we knew we would be in premiership last January. the signings in that window were signed for the premiership. 5) Rodriguez looks decent signing. a lot to prove but good attitude, attributes, well thought of in the game. how alps can already be slagging the signing off I don't know, guess things never change). 6) read a lot about clyne before linked with us, very widely tipped to play for England. 7) IMHO, the position we have been lacking, for years, is CM capt type. we have signed player still to reach his peak. who at 21 was villa's player of the season, in prem. been a capt for rangers - uefa cup finalist, 10 Scottish trophies (I know about Scottish football but more pressure than playing for us in prem) we know business isn't complete. 9) have top clubs finished? 10) have we missed out on anyone? I don't know how we will do. however, last 3 years would lead any mature adult to believe that if we fall short it is not due to inability to manage a transfer window!

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition
NickG replied to Jimmy_D's topic in The Saints
we could sign.... 01 De Gea 03 Evra Booked 05 Ferdinand 06 Evans Dismissed 12 Smalling Booked 08 Anderson Booked (Jones - 66' ) 17 Nani (Hernandez - 65' ) 18 Young 24 Fletcher 10 Rooney 19 Welbeck Booked Substitutes 34 Lindegaard 04 Jones 20 Fabio Da Silva 13 Park Ji-sung 25 Valencia 09 Berbatov 14 Hernandez play at home and get thrashed 6-1!! First game is not a panic for signings! -
Don't know you so don't want to get personal.... but its hard when responding to such crap! In summary, a player isn't playing as well or as committed, in your opinion, in pre-season as he did in the middle of the season when we were top of the league and going for back to back promotions??!! Friendlies are crap, so not bothered with any this season - I can't judge then...but neither can anyone else particularly! I did hear the end of the Ajax game on C5 and their manager raved about him. Guess he is just a Saints fan who can't criticise Lallana!
-
West Ham 5 places above us..... no way. Predicted Big Sam would have them below us last season and reckon same prediction for this.
-
Got a feeling that you one day may feel very silly with your "F**k knows why" view of signing Rodriguez. Think NA and NC have shown they are more than capable of "muddling through". Really shaky central defence last season? 46 goals against? Not even a string of names associated with...lol, sound like a school boy, you get point for performances not made up rumours on websites! You haven't got a clue whats going on, NA/NC job is to keep building the club..not appease your inpatience and demands for rumours. In September NA will have been here two years. Reckon we will still be sure he knows what he is doing if review at that stage!
-
don't agree with this, too superficial. how many prem sides have big name managers? not many. of those who do, even were big names when appointed. who would you have expected us to have been able to sign, as newly promoted, recent league 1 side, if we had a big name? NC tried big name manager, he didn't like it. think signings so far show (again as newly promoted, recent league 1) that NA can attract players. what is big name anyway?!
-
take that was said tongue in cheek?
-
I remember NC when he arrived when we were bottom of league 1, all big talk and spin. Reality check time chaps he is full of it, what's he achieved in 3 seasons? (apart from winning a trophy at Wembley and two promotions)
-
pretty much correct. games sold out, team doing superbly. Press need cortesse a lot more than he needs them
-
Which pub would you recommend in Southampton to watch the match?
NickG replied to rog's topic in The Saints
Any recommendations around docks / West Quay end of town? Meeting someone who is being dropped down there and want to drag them to somewhere with the game? Want decent size screen. Thanks! -

Nor is he good enough to replace KD at the moment. KD is better keeper. like back in summer how some were in awe of WHU and Leicester's squads just because they had names that were touted about. Still sticking with my pre-season prediction that we will finish above them both!

Hull and Cardiff to draw. Two level teams out of the race.
