  1. I know! naughty of me to put it in my post!
  2. Which bits of your tax money do the liberals and socialists waste then. Maybe the NHS for example? Perhaps a well funded public education system? Mitigation of climate change? A benefits system to support those worst off in society? Go on fill your boots and show your true colours.
  3. Yes, just a big stinking pile of cheap patriotism and plastic jingoism.
  4. Quite, some on here will never get it!
  5. Of all the crap published by this rag this is right up there with the very worst. You know fuck all Rod Liddle. This is the author of the bile explaining in an article in the Spectator in 2012 why he couldn't become a teacher. Words fucking fail me.
  6. Anyway on a lighter note I'd thought I'd share my go to recipes for each month next year to lighten the discourse on here January - Turnip Gratin (are we allowed to use gratin after 31st Dec as its a French word?) February - Turnip Omelette (Oops another French word!) March - Turnip Goulash April - Turnip Knodel May - Turnip Arabbiata June - Turnip Paella July - Turnip Golombki August - Turnip Souvlaki September - Turnip Schnitzel October - Turnip smørrebrød November - Turnip Gravadlax December - Oooopps no more fucking turnips! Too many things way more important than this toxic little discussion to worry about in last 10 months. Looks that there may well be light at the end of that tunnel which to me is far more important. Like others I have become Brexit agnostic. In a sense pontificating and arguing is futile, it will change nothing, there is so much more to life than Brexit. It'll shape our future for good or bad we don't know, same as this time last year I had no idea what 2020 was going to throw at me and my family. It hasn't been plain sailing but it has allowed me a better perspective on how things are. Enjoy the recipes.
  7. Cheers for that. Hopeful. Took a look at that Malibu video. Not only a good video, but a spectacular looking ride. This is one of mine I put on Rouvy. Last time I rode it the sync was a bit off but the experts on such things claim its because I ride so slowly. Anyway here are the Lacets de Montvernier. https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/36277 Worth a try, if it behaves itself. May need to do some more work on it over Xmas and then re-load. https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/31273 https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/31496 https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/35899 These are three more I've put on. Each a bit quirky with regards to syncing gradients with video but works in progress. first two are south Wales and the third one is a local route including a 10 mile TT course.
  8. Been using Rouvy for a few years now. Visually, and from a cycling point of view way more realistic speeds than Zwift. Been doing some of the Ironman courses. Great videos and quite varied too. I've been confined to the garage since my wife has been in the ECV category. She's likely to be there for a few months more as she's about to embark on SABR radiotherapy in the new year to remove two lung mets, and then fingers crossed shell be restaged and watch and wait.
  9. ‘Producing energy from renewable resources is not the answer to meeting energy demand.’ How far do you agree? Cambridge International Geography A Level exam question i set for one of the students I tutor. Be interesting to see what people think.
  10. Me too, usually with blueberries and a squirt of honey.
  11. Guildhall School of Music and Drama before attending the National Opera Studio.
  12. The East Mids not as flat as some would give it credit for.
  13. Might take your comments seriously if you could avoid using insulting terms like 'remoaner' and 'Lib Dumbs'. Call it as it is, you are making a serious point and adding to the debate, but the fact you have to resort to downright rudeness and dismissiveness towards those who simply do not agree with you devalues your opinion.
  14. Indeed, but the sentiment I was picking up seemed to be that having Kamala Harris as VP was somehow akin to a centre left Labour Party leader having Diane Abbott as deputy leader with the Corbynistas waiting in the wings. As you say weird. What Trump and the other populists, Johnson included have done, is normalised anti-left rhetoric, successfully demonising even centre-left views (relative to the country) and turned 'lefty' into a pejorative term (see it on here all the time from certain posters, references to pinkos, Lib Dumbs etc)
  15. They're doing a Trump v Biden poll on LBC. Seems a sizeable proportion of people in this country would be prepared to gloss over Trump's shortcomings (corrupt, racist, misogynist etc) and would vote for him if given the chance. Their main fear is the rise of the left. I suspect that this isn't necessarily a comment on the US more a backhanded reference closer to home.
  16. Fantastic win for TGH at the Giro. 5 Brit to win a Grand Tour. Like many not a huge fan of Ineos Grenadier, but Tao and Rohan Dennis along with Ganna totally lit up this race.
  17. You on Strava?
  18. What’s good for this lady should be good for Cummings. Can’t have one rule for one and not the other for the sake of political expediency.
  19. Feel for anyone in that situation. Know from first hand it’s not a great place to be.
  20. Thanks for that. I won’t patronise you as you may well have first hand experience of a loved one with a serious cancer diagnosis and the prognosis that accompanies it. My wife doesn’t want to put her life on hold. The average life expectancy for a person with metastasised bowel cancer is two years. We’re seven months into that already. Getting out (albeit infrequently) is part of her management strategy for her illness as much as shielding herself away from risks. It is a balancing act. Ride safe btw.
  21. Wearing them. Back in schools so no choice. Doesn't bother me tbh, biggest priority of last three/four months has been keeping my wife free from potential Covid infection whilst on chemo. Easy to be snide and politicise mask wearing but for some of us it borders on necessity.
  22. Like Hoyle as Speaker.
  23. Thank you. We both hope so. Having been caught up in this at the start of Covid I'm not sure that things could have been different A cancelled colonoscopy 5 weeks earlier may have led to earlier diagnosis which may have avoided a perforation and spread. That said without that particular complication there may have been no emergency surgery and she would be looking at managing things through chemo. As it is she's had the surgery and the chemo and now we are awaiting a PET scan on Friday to see if the METs in the two areas of spread have reduced. The oncologist used word like 'very favourable' which is hugely encouraging, If nothing else it highlights the variability of cancer treatment across the country. Her treatment has been swift, well planned and consistent from the start. It's being coordinated across the Royal Berks, John Radcliffe and Southampton General. Regrettably this isn't the case even for cancer treatment in normal times in every part of the country let alone in the abnormal situation we find ourself in now and is dependent where you live. Oh, and if you're over 60 do your poo test!
  24. Thanks, it's been an eye opening half a year or so. Definitely made me less judgemental and more reflective. Hasn't necessarily made me agree with the opinions of some on here but it has taught me that there is more to life than sparring on social media and that social media can be a positive force. The most support and information my wife gets is not from Macmillan, although she has a wonderful "telephone buddy" or from the Oncology team, at the Royal Berks although they have been excellent and have a clear treatment plan for her. Most of it is mutual support from bowel cancer social media sites where she gets to exchange experiences with others in similar circumstances. The only downside is that sadly some with whom she was in touch with at the start of her treatment are no longer with us. Quite a few of them as a result of having vital treatment delayed or postponed due to Covid. My only wish is that whatever happens, the treatment of cancer patients and all others with life threatening illnesses are not put on the back burner again due to Covid prioritisation.
  25. Fascinating looking back to page 1 of this thread. By no means being in any way judgemental about this. As with everything, there will be polarised opinions and many in between as have been revealed here over the last seven months. Just a bit of a personal reflection more than anything, looking back to a time when my mum (in a care home) was still alive and our family life wasn't overshadowed by my wife's cancer. How things change!
