Thanks. On the real plus side, none of my wife’s treatment was cancelled due to Covid and the care she’s had has been top notch. She’s been in contact through social media with others having bowel cancer, and scarily quite a few are no longer with us because of interruptions to their treatment.

Gutted for my wife. 10 months with cancer, not seen her mum since before diagnosis. Was coming down from Stourbridge but now we’re in Tier 4 not possible. MiL has been self isolating in preparation as wife is still undergoing treatment and as such is ECV. Fuck 2020

That was my impression, then I came across this which kind of debunks the myth. Not sure if its different in FE though. https://michaelt1979.wordpress.com/2020/06/12/are-teachers-paid-for-the-holidays/

Not all. Making the point that views are valid, that it doesn't have to be about truth or fact as long as both sides of an argument are presented equably. Being able to do that, particularly when you hold an opinion on a subject is what we have to do as teachers. I now have my own business working as a consultant teacher in three schools in both public and private sector. In two of them part of my brief is the redesign of A Level programmes of study and within that making sure that there is balance in what is delivered especially where issues of contention imprint on the geography specifications. I have a view on climate change it may well be the complete opposite of yours but I park it when teaching. Could you or GM do the same in similar circumstances?

https://www.universetoday.com/39012/milankovitch-cycle/#:~:text=A Milankovitch cycle is a,%2C axial tilt%2C and precession. Just to confirm, in all GCSE Geography specifications this is taught as part of the unit on climate change. So climate change since the year dot is considered. At A Level its linked to carbon and water cycles. It is entirely possible that a student at A Level could conjure an anti-man-made climate change argument if they so wished and receive just as much credit for doing so as someone writing an opposite view. The idea that a particular view is rammed down the throats of young people is the sort of wholly inaccurate tripe that the right wing gutter press use to enrage their readers. Trust me there is no 'lefty' conspiracy in this as, at the time it was Gove and Cummings at the DfE who brought about the changes. So on their watch be it. It is more likely that particular views on climate change amongst young people are circulated through trending on social media rather than 'Woke' indoctrination by teachers. Unless you are practicing teachers and have first hand knowledge of this sort of bias, may I suggest your views on this are merely uninformed supposition.

Do you reckon it would piss him off knowing that I have to teach about climate change to teenagers? Its also the bit at GCSE and A level that the kids are most interested in. Their futures not ours and not GMs. Maybe he can complain he can complain to the Daily Mail, get a bit more outrage going

I know! naughty of me to put it in my post!

Which bits of your tax money do the liberals and socialists waste then. Maybe the NHS for example? Perhaps a well funded public education system? Mitigation of climate change? A benefits system to support those worst off in society? Go on fill your boots and show your true colours.

Yes, just a big stinking pile of cheap patriotism and plastic jingoism.

Saints vs Sheff Utd - Match & Reaction Thread
Winnersaint replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Quite, some on here will never get it! -
Of all the crap published by this rag this is right up there with the very worst. You know fuck all Rod Liddle. This is the author of the bile explaining in an article in the Spectator in 2012 why he couldn't become a teacher. Words fucking fail me.

Anyway on a lighter note I'd thought I'd share my go to recipes for each month next year to lighten the discourse on here January - Turnip Gratin (are we allowed to use gratin after 31st Dec as its a French word?) February - Turnip Omelette (Oops another French word!) March - Turnip Goulash April - Turnip Knodel May - Turnip Arabbiata June - Turnip Paella July - Turnip Golombki August - Turnip Souvlaki September - Turnip Schnitzel October - Turnip smørrebrød November - Turnip Gravadlax December - Oooopps no more fucking turnips! Too many things way more important than this toxic little discussion to worry about in last 10 months. Looks that there may well be light at the end of that tunnel which to me is far more important. Like others I have become Brexit agnostic. In a sense pontificating and arguing is futile, it will change nothing, there is so much more to life than Brexit. It'll shape our future for good or bad we don't know, same as this time last year I had no idea what 2020 was going to throw at me and my family. It hasn't been plain sailing but it has allowed me a better perspective on how things are. Enjoy the recipes.

Cheers for that. Hopeful. Took a look at that Malibu video. Not only a good video, but a spectacular looking ride. This is one of mine I put on Rouvy. Last time I rode it the sync was a bit off but the experts on such things claim its because I ride so slowly. Anyway here are the Lacets de Montvernier. https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/36277 Worth a try, if it behaves itself. May need to do some more work on it over Xmas and then re-load. https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/31273 https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/31496 https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/35899 These are three more I've put on. Each a bit quirky with regards to syncing gradients with video but works in progress. first two are south Wales and the third one is a local route including a 10 mile TT course.

Been using Rouvy for a few years now. Visually, and from a cycling point of view way more realistic speeds than Zwift. Been doing some of the Ironman courses. Great videos and quite varied too. I've been confined to the garage since my wife has been in the ECV category. She's likely to be there for a few months more as she's about to embark on SABR radiotherapy in the new year to remove two lung mets, and then fingers crossed shell be restaged and watch and wait.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

‘Producing energy from renewable resources is not the answer to meeting energy demand.’ How far do you agree? Cambridge International Geography A Level exam question i set for one of the students I tutor. Be interesting to see what people think. -
Me too, usually with blueberries and a squirt of honey.

The East Mids not as flat as some would give it credit for.

Might take your comments seriously if you could avoid using insulting terms like 'remoaner' and 'Lib Dumbs'. Call it as it is, you are making a serious point and adding to the debate, but the fact you have to resort to downright rudeness and dismissiveness towards those who simply do not agree with you devalues your opinion.

Indeed, but the sentiment I was picking up seemed to be that having Kamala Harris as VP was somehow akin to a centre left Labour Party leader having Diane Abbott as deputy leader with the Corbynistas waiting in the wings. As you say weird. What Trump and the other populists, Johnson included have done, is normalised anti-left rhetoric, successfully demonising even centre-left views (relative to the country) and turned 'lefty' into a pejorative term (see it on here all the time from certain posters, references to pinkos, Lib Dumbs etc)
-
They're doing a Trump v Biden poll on LBC. Seems a sizeable proportion of people in this country would be prepared to gloss over Trump's shortcomings (corrupt, racist, misogynist etc) and would vote for him if given the chance. Their main fear is the rise of the left. I suspect that this isn't necessarily a comment on the US more a backhanded reference closer to home.

Fantastic win for TGH at the Giro. 5 Brit to win a Grand Tour. Like many not a huge fan of Ineos Grenadier, but Tao and Rohan Dennis along with Ganna totally lit up this race.

What’s good for this lady should be good for Cummings. Can’t have one rule for one and not the other for the sake of political expediency.
