Statistics- we are averaging 30 long shots per goal. Townsend 36 for a goal, top sides 15 per goal. Townsend 74 crosses no assists. Are we really serious or is this a smokescreen or merely winding Spurs up.
-
It seems from statistics we need twice as many long shots 30ish to score a goal as the top teams at 15ish. Seems an awful lot of football to score a goal from distance. Do we really need a quick player that shoots a lot rather than passing.

If FF gets injured I bet Boruc will be playing unless he lets himself go again. I can't see us starting KD or PG for long.
-
I wonder how much Schneiderlin not being allowed to leave was to do with the offer being too low and a part exchange again not players we wanted, rather than fan unrest.
-
He looks very accomplished on the ground but I'm not sure about his heading high balls. I'll be interested how it works out for him overall, pretty impressive v MC, CP and Besiktas. I still have a feeling he may end up in front of the back four.

I went to the Leverkusen game with Weston and West Stand. We talked about the greed and money that is awash in football. Weston made the point that next season he may not renew as he is totally disillusioned by the way football has gone and is going. I think he won't be alone.

It seems to me that we are on to something. Strengthen the club progressively by making the greedy big clubs pay through the nose for academy players or other players such a Schneiderlin and Lovren etc that they covet and replacing them with good players for half the price. I'm pretty happy with the players we have seen so far and I'm sure I'm not alone in looking forward to the season.

Martin Samuels, chief sports writer and Neil Ashton obviously have an anti Saints agenda.

Having spent five + years out of it, now we are back in it I'd be happy to see us stay there. For me, obviously the higher we can finish the better but for the season it is a week by week thing. As long as we are competitive and can win more than we lose and can watch games with the anticipation of winning even if like yesterday we didn't manage it, but we gave it a good go.

Says the knob who has an opinion on everything. Empty vessels etc comes to mind. Don't bother with another vacuous post I'm not interested.

You are indeed entitled to your opinion. What puzzles me is why somebody who consistently demonstrates a complete lack of any practical knowledge of football would want to display it publicly.

Davis's was a bad miss, didn't even work the keeper. Long had Johnson a bigger man all over him, got a header in. Schneiderlin hit his shot straight at the keeper, either side like Clyne and he would have buried it.

Davis was poor. Missed a glorious chance and if he hadn't been waving his arms at the other players, nobody except Sterling around him, managed to lose him and give him a free header to Sturridge for the second goal. Yoshida poor in possession, Schneiderlin not fit yet, Pelle worked on his own especially in the first half, time will tell. The team as a whole looked good and Liverpool were saved by their goalkeeper whilst Forster hardly had a save to make. Boruc and Ramirez??

I played both when I was young. Great character building, but highly likely to get a slap now and then.

have we finished yet? or is there more to look forward to?

Wollscheid has stated categorically that he will not go out on loan but would not rule out a permanent transfer. -
Apart from the fact we haven't had anywhere near a worthwhile bid and Morgan knows that.
-
Koeman said he knew the team but the players would be the first to be told. He didn't discount Schneiderlin and seemed quite positive when asked about him.
-
One big plus with Long, he was brought up as a kid playing Gaelic sports, football and hurling, very physical fast sports where body checks, shoulder charges are happening all the time. That makes him such a hand full as he is strong and physical as well as fast, so enjoys mixing it.

Wollscheid won't be a loan. He says if he is going to leave Bayer it will have to be a permanent transfer. I'd take him, good player and right age.
