Nobody believed him.

Most of the Lib Dem seats lost outside Scotland were reverting to Tory which they had been previously. In any event the protest party was no longer and there were loads of other destinations for that vote. I suspect most of those that switched to Tory were reverting to their roots.

Voters just didn't believe that when push came to shove he wouldn't do a deal if it was his only way to be Prime Minister. As far as I was concerned that was the reality. I didn't believe him and it looks like a lot more didn't either.

I personally think that the English didn't suddenly decide to vote Conservative because of the SNP. It was just a number of things that added up for most people not least their dislike of Miliband, or Labours incoherence and state of denial over the overspending when in charge. They just weren't trusted. The thought that the SNP would put a minority English party into power against the wishes of the English people scuppered Labour. I don't think the English care about the Scots at all. They do care about the Barnett formula and what it represents in terms of privilege for the Scots over the English, not least in Education, Health and care of the Elderly with the English paying. If they want to go let them go but when push comes to shove the English will want them to be self funding which I don't think is part of their calculations. I get the feeling what they want is English funded independence.

The Scots making a declaration of UDI would be like the turkeys voting for Christmas. As far as I'm concerned they can fill their boots in that direction, it's their funeral, the English would be so much better off without them. How's the oil thing going up there? for example. I'm sure we can find a home for Trident, the Navy and RAF.

I think Cameron should offer them home rule. What they raise they spend, pay for any services, no more subsidies. their worst nightmare I think.

I thought that we had a referendum in 2011 and a large majority opted to stay with the present system. Not perfect but it mostly gets a result instead of a coalition.

The Labour party made a great issue of the NHS. To me that smacked of hypocrisy because the Labour run NHS in Wales performs abysmally compared with the English NHS. As for the Liberal vote collapsing, many of their seats were originally won from the conservatives eg Eastleigh. The coalition worked in some respects but I'm sure many were turned off by the duplicitous Clegg and Cable and decided to ditch them and return to their Conservative origins. Sturgeon and her comments about locking the Conservatives out of Downing Street were key for me. How dare she presume with about 9% of MPs to tell the English she was going to dictate. That made my mind up to vote Conservative. The Labour party was unelectable especially allied to the SNP and got what was coming to them.

If any of the three won't sign new contracts take the money.
-
Agreed but add it to £10m for a striker or use it for wages. Don't waste £4m on him.
-
Send him back. One match wonder, shows little in the way of courage or anything else. Spend our money on someone else.

I suggest you read my post match comment. Clyne, Pelle and Davis criticised. Koeman needs to be more innovative, it's all very well having a 4231 preference but it isn't working. Maybe Long and Mane up front together. Mane is a waste of space wide and on his arse. Tadic played for a long time with a chronic groin problem. It was only his willpower that kept him playing. most of the rest wouldn't have kept going. We should have stopped him from playing as we have now done and sorted the problem.
-
He is absolutely spot on. Davis is giving us nothing and too often he is the closest player to the threat when a goal goes in. Eg Spurs, he failed twice to close down Dier before both goals despite being close enough to block him off easily. He often stops our attacks by passing sideways or backwards just to keep the ball or fails to release the ball early to an unmarked attacker. I will say when we went down to ten men last week he played in the way he should play every week. No goals and no forward threat isn't good enough for one of the three attackers behind Pelle. His goal attempts in the last home game were a joke.

Post-Match Reaction: Leicester City 2-0 SAINTS
derry replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Pelle has to do more, standing in the middle just waiting doesn't cut it. Mane has to stay on his feet. Ticket back to Bremen for Elia. Clyne less than 100% effort. We were poor very static, plenty of possession, slow tempo, with absolutely lack of movement and no threat. If they think the season is over then leave them out. Spurs left the door open. We need the sort of effort and tempo that Sunderland and Leicester have shown. Without it they aren't worth watching. Time to say goodbye to Clyne and bring in somebody who wants to play. Time to take the money for the ones who won't sign contracts and move on. -
Why is everybody picking Tadic. Koeman said last week he won't play again this season. His groin strain once and for all needs to be rested.
-
Lambert has gone from being the focal point that the players looked to play to and play off to a spectator watching the nippy egos running in circles and nobody looking to play to or off him. I'm afraid he doubled his money but stalled his career. Lallana and Lovren have gone backwards.
-
I didn't see it on the day because of position but saw the 2nd goal on tv, yet again S Davis was the closest to Dier before the pass and because he doesn't press but stands off, the pass was allowed. If Davis had stepped forward and blocked Dier that pass couldn't have been made. He did the same against Coutino if he had stepped forward Liverpool wouldn't have scored. It is my biggest criticism of his game, he floats around in front of the ball but rarely closes down tight preferring to hold 5 yds short without pressing. Our defenders, defensive midfielders press in tight but Davis gives too much room.
-
Playing Davis and JWP was crass. Koeman stated that it was a must win game. Playing two non scoring square passers in front of two holding midfielders wasn't going for it. We looked far better after they went off and were replaced by Long and Elia. Spurs were hanging on at the end. We have nothing to lose by starting that team or Wanyama for Yoshida and reverting to the best back six and four proper forwards. In any event I personally prefer Harry Reed to both Davis and JWP. JWP isn't bad but as far as I am concerned Davis has run his course, he just doesn't do enough for me. The lack of goals from midfield has cost us several places. Kelvin Davis wasn't good enough three years ago. He has managed to destroy our passing game overnight as he just won't pass it and kicks long mostly turning over possession. Keeping him as third choice backup for Boruc made sense but not as the reserve goalkeeper.
-
We cannot afford any player playing in the four forwards that is incapable of scoring and making the runs that unsettle defences. Yesterday Davis who is pretty inept and hasn't scored this season, sloppily got Fonte booked with a hospital ball and provided nothing except backwards and sideways. Tadic is nowhere as good as I first thought and now produces little, worse, disappears for long periods and is another that prefers to pass rather than shoot. Our corners even if we scored after one yesterday are hopeless. Koeman must be kicking himself for leaving KD as the only back up goalkeeper after Boruc threw a wobbler. He just isn't a Premier class goalkeeper, being an occasional shot stopper doesn't cut it. Boruc should have been replaced before he was allowed to leave. We are in a good position but need to bring in a cutting edge up front to reinforce Pelle and Mane, plus at least one Premier goalkeeper, if we are to move up in overall class. I personally would like to see Austin brought in up top and at least two regular goal scorers behind. I think objectively Schneiderlin, Clyne and Rodriguez unless they sign contracts will leave for big fees in the summer, which with Tv money, provide funds to purchase replacements and the above.

Pay through the nose time approaching.

Two points for clarification from last nights game
derry replied to lifeintheslowlane's topic in The Saints
We could have refused and made the referee drop for a contested drop ball. I think it should be left to the referee to stop play and restart with a contested drop ball otherwise play on. -
clarified by FIFA recently, Barcelona can buy players in the summer but they can't play them until the next window.
-
The problem has been there for quite a while. The midfielders Davis, Ward-Prowse, Wanyama and Schneiderlin had all stopped making runs preferring to sit behind the ball and in front of the massed defence indulging in possession football often going back to Forster. The service to the front three was poor. Pelle has had the rough end of the stick, yes I know he has snatched at the few real chances but he was always under pressure and isolated. Schneiderlin and Wanyama have three goals each from way back but apart from Schneiderlin's air shot v WBA in recent times no threat at all. JWP and Davis have both squandered gilt edged chances and seem unnerved in front of goal. .. It badly needs the midfielders to run the channels. I'd like to see Djuricic as the third midfielder behind Pelle and two from Mane, Long, Tadic and Elia. Reed for me when he played displayed the dynamism required the others were playing with a very slow tempo. We have to step up the tempo overall.

The ex Saints playing is probably good for us as it will guarantee that the present players will be really up for this one.

Apart from a bit of a snarl up at the traffic lights jct mountbatten way/westquay rd I had no trouble going west. I live locally and avoid the M271 and M27 Jct 3. You will find it a lot easier if you take the A36 through Totton to Ower. Either take the old road or switch to the A326 to cross over the M27 at Ower at the mini roundabout just before Ower.
