  1. He is Minister of Transport and the Chairman of the biggest party in the Trinidad coalition government. Therefore he couldn't risk letting the investigation continue. I know. you couldn't make it up.
  2. Allerdyce isn't a cheap option, either wages or the players he will want to sign.
  3. Until the law bans them from trespassing they should be blocked in, the Police, HMRC, DVLC etc etc should then go through them with a fine tooth comb for any law breaking which in itself would act as a deterrent.
  4. I thought I saw somewhere that the Swedish regulators had problems with the takeover, so CSI aren't part of Saab's owner consortium.
  5. Parachute payments over 4 years, £16m (I think Aug & Jan), £16m, £8m, £8m. I personally don't think that Cork is what we need. In any event we don't even know that the club's alleged interest has any basis in fact and is probably media speculation.
  6. A lot of the Eastliegh players will be the young failed league releasees they are taking on and making full time. Together with some older experienced CS players. So the standard is about right for the reserves.
  7. Richardson didn't play and never managed to hold down a regular starting slot ,Likewise Dickson who was rapidly replaced by Harding, only Butterfield was a regular early on but alternated with Richardson towards the end and Guly failed to break into the side in the early part of the season. It can be safely said that the new players barely had any effect on the team/results in the early part of the season. However if four influential players who provided immediate impact had arrived early, that may well have been a different story.
  8. Bearing in mind the lack of straight in winning runs, don't you think maybe it's time to change the way we do things. Maybe we will this year. Three premier class teams at SMS including a tournament in the last two weeks before the season, is something new.
  9. July 1st is when clubs start back training after the summer break. The real hard work starting Mon July 4th. Every year despite the optimistic rubbish that comes out of Saints in my memory (57 years) we have rarely started the season with a run of wins. Every year we are still signing players either late into the pre season training or even after the season has started. The club management regularly makes statements about strengthening which rarely come to fruition. Players are brought in that strengthen the depth of the squad but rarely are they players that strengthen the team (Lambert, Fonte are exceptions). This year we need a number of that calibre preferably before pre season but definitely not long after the start of pre season to strengthen the side and blend in before the season starts. We definitely don't need more of the annual poor start whilst trying to get players in during September and play catch up.
  10. Thanks. When I was a kid, I spent my summer holidays in Ireland. Sebastian Shaw lived a few hundred yards away in a historical rectory and also from an actor point of view, that was once occupied by C S Lewis and in recent years by John Hurt, but he no longer owns it.
  11. It looks as though the design is dictated by the fact it is built on the side of a hill. Tall on the bottom side short on the top side which looks like it dictates the height of the ends.
  12. Shilton, Golac, Watson, Wright, Mills, Paine, Keegan, Armstrong, Sydenham, Channon, Davies.
  13. Whose face was used when the helmet came off at Vader's death scene? Sebastian Shaw?
  14. There was also newsreels used from the anti ship bouncing bomb trials.
  15. I believe Sabastian Shaw played Darth Vader but another voice was used.
  16. What a farce. They make a film showing half the attacking force crashed, breach dams, destroy homes, factories, kill hundreds, devastate the countryside and the **** writing the script changes the codeword because it is politically incorrect. Pure bloody hypocrisy.
  17. Davies was on borrowed time, no surprise as he has been heavily criticised for living in Glasgow and not spending enough time at the club. Not being promoted this time after all the money spent did for him. McLeish resigning could mean either the financial situation at Birmingham is worse than thought or he has been tapped up by Villa.
  18. Dave Whelan / Niall Quinn both ex top division players doing an excellent job.
  19. Who?
  20. All SFC debts were paid. It is the holding company SLH that had debts. The Mortgage was settled as was the overdraft the rest of the debts were SFC operating, so were paid in full.
  21. It definitely wasn't me. I think LF Payne was commandant of the airport after the war. I won't let them go as they are of really personal historic interest. I have the later history of the airport written in the 90s. I also flew part time from the airport after I retired. I flew the dash 8 Q400 for Flybe for a couple of years. Vivian Bellamy ran the Hampshire Aero Club later ran St Just Airport, Lands End. He flew some of the sequences in the Battle of Britain film (ex fighters Fleet Air Arm). John Fairy kept a Spitfire at Farley farm strip, he flew for Cambrian and Channel Express. Tragically killed when the engine failed on a Piston Provost he was flying. I think the engine was an Alvis Leonides similar to the manual. I met so many interesting people and heard some amazing stories in my career. The Captain of the BA Boeing 747 that lost all four engines in the ash cloud over Indonesia in 1982 sits with Weston Saint and myself at SMS.
  22. I can never understand once they are illegally trespassing on a site, the landowner just blocks them in. Rather than trying to get them out, stop them from getting out. They then can't lay their tarmac etc. When they have cleaned up, filled up and paid for the skips blocking the entrances they would be allowed to leave. Until then no access, they would soon think twice about squatting.
  23. Very possible but the 109 would be well outclassed.
  24. Are you saying you've got one, if you have, quote me a price, I was flying out of Southampton from 1971 to 1986 I would think a lot of people in the photo's were friends of mine. I'd like to get one. (pm?)
  25. Interestingly an old friend of mine flew Spitfires from 1941 until 1946, he went back to Czechoslovakia after the war with his wing of Spitfires and was the designated display pilot for the Czech airforce. All the Spitfires were made redundant and they were supplied with Avia built Me 109Gs. He then had to work out his display on the Messerschmidt. He without any advice or instruction took off and did his display routine in the 109. When he finished he landed taxied in and shut down. The engineers met him at the aircraft going frantic. One of them showed him the wings which after the display were nearly falling off. It turned out the 109G was very fragile and regularly lost it's wings after/during aerobatics/battle.
