Saints never do well against sides that close down quickly forcing us to play it long rather than build. I normally sit high in the stands but last night I was at the front and could see close up how our players were constantly pressured by Charlton with inevitable consequences for the quality of play. Being closer to the pitch it was clear, especially first half how, well Fonte reads the game, anticipates danger and defends. Likewise, second half it was notable how much effort Barnard puts in and also the constant fouling of Lambert which was not penalised by the officials. I'm not sure what's happened to Chaplow though, he wasn't at the races.

Was it "Pop to the Shops"?

Th Oozlum bird. Flies around in ever decreasing circles and disappears up it's own fundament.

Lucky dump? I just laid a cable. Watch out Charlton.

I can't see Adkins splitting up the Lambert/Barnard partnership.
-
It doesn't shout out that the money has dried up. You're guessing. Why would Adkins enquire about the player if there were no money to pay his wages?

Megson - “It’s a nice ground (not as good as ours), the crowd will be big (not as good as ours), so we’re not going to one of the smaller places in League One, and we have to cope with that rather than some of the things we have been struggling to cope with recently.”

So he wants to come on loan with a permanent move at the end of the season, subject to Saints going up, and with a contract no worse than what he has with Reading?

Charlton away Tuesday 22nd March tickets

The Market Porter in Borough Market is a good old fashioned pub. Usually a good few Saints fans in there before Charlton matches and it's where we are going. Then a short train journey to Charlton. If you want a singing pub go to the Antigallican (sic) near the ground. Or do both. -
After last night's drubbing they'll be desperate to avoid defeat. Unless we get an early goal, a disappointing 0 - 0.

[quoteAnd This Bloke Is Supposed To Be A Saints Fan Exactly what I thought when I read it. I generally refrain from criticism of the Echo but I do think this and one or two other Echo articles about the match with Bournemouth are a bit pathetic.
-
Is this because you think they will go up this season or you think Saints will? If the latter, then aren't you being what you accuse other Saints fans of being, arrogant?
-
Who are you quoting?

I think it's difficult to identify one thing (singular) that's not right which if rectified would make everything right. More likely a range of factors affecting results. The only thing that's not right at the moment is that we are not in one of the promotion places. For instance, if some of the marginal results had gone for rather than against and we were where we expect to be, I think we wouldn't be discussing leadership on the field.

Question for the Positive-Thinkers after the Walsall result
Graffito replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Piffle! How can a team deserve to finish in second place on the basis of results part way through a season. -
Anybody know any Skate jokes?

I'd rather sign Ted.

"It's All Southampton", as the song goes. Or the second line "All Southampton FC".

Don't be in a tizzy. Follow a moral imperative...winning isn't everything.

I expect you're right about that game, I wasn't there. I was referring to a pre-season friendly at the Dell against Real Sociedad.
-
I don't think he was an enigma, he was quite clearly an excellent midfield player. I think this comment in the OP is pertinent (Oakley)"...was one of those players who was never noticed until he wasn’t there". I remember a pre season friendly at the Dell against a Spanish side, could have been Real Sociedad. Disjointed performance by Saints until Oakley came off the bench and everything knit together. He's the kind of continuity player all sides benefit from but who possibly was never fully appreciated.
-
Reasonable set of results again. I just hope Saints' flaky performance away to Peterborough doesn't come back to haunt us.

He could have said cappuccino.

Cortese clarifies the current position (Daily Telegraph)
Graffito replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
"It is a stand-off that will sadden most Southampton supporters who, after so much division over the past decade, would simply like to see the past, present and future of their club functioning harmoniously." Wasn't there talk of being custodians of the club when ML came in? I believe the club's in safe hands but I'd prefer to see a more inclusive approach. -
Correct but equally if we'd scored two of our six attempts on target we'd have got a point. And I can't comment on KD's performance because I didn't see it.
