I agree with much of this but pace, though desirable, is not essential to moving the ball quickly. Norwich last season moved the ball quickly but had little or no pace in the side.

Maybe he's fed up because he's not scoring.

Wait 'til the grey ones start to appear on your dome. You won't like it matey.

Charles Darwin, Michael Palin, Wilfred Owen, Mary Webb, Clive of India...
Graffito replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
So Clive of India was really Clive of Shrewsbury? -
I hope you're right but equally it could be that the difference now (because we don't have to sell) is that we can hold out for a better price and get sell-on clauses that stick. As we know, if a player wants to go, he'll go.
-
He'll have assessed that in training, surely.

His name wasn't Lampard, was it? My favourite recollection of him was (said with utter venom in response to an innocent question about mending a damaged egg box in pine) "You stupid boy! Do I look like the kind of man who deals in six-inch nails?" It was Woodward.
-
I agree with the OP. I think he would be very effective in the hole behind the CF.

Wilde's Business has been wound up and liquidated by HMRC
Graffito replied to exit2's topic in The Saints
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I'm sorry to say he was a disaster for Saints. -
Thanks for posting that up. I fear it would simply fall on deaf ears though with most top footballers these days. There is a Saints link to the article: "Captain Edward Bell, of Portsmouth and Southampton, won an MC for conspicuous gallantry".

All the hype points to the inevitable...a 0-0 draw.

Lambert only available striker for Saturday...
Graffito replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Lallana behind Lambert. He finished there for the final 20 minutes of the final game last season against Southend, looked good and scored. -
Kevin Davies' performances at Bolton have proved Strachan was wrong about him. For a "midfield player" he turned out to be a pretty good striker. I'm pleased he's been recognised by England. It will be interesting to see how his robust style goes down with international referees.
-
Totally disagree. You support him through the lean spell (by his own high standards) and the goals will return. He's the most important player we've got so no way should he be on the bench. Oh, and it didn't look to me that he doesn't want to be here when he ran to the Northam after his second goal yesterday, quite the opposite.
-
Agreed but my recollection is that the FL did not apply it's rule in respect of Saints' holding company having gone into administration and instead applied the 10 point penalty to the club.
-
You could argue that the pre-season fixtures, the swiss matches aside, were poorly selected and Pardew didn't, for whatever reason, give enough run outs to first teamers. However, Lambert credited his improved fitness last year to Pardew. Also I imagine the medical team that Adkins praised last week was probably in place under Pardew, so I don't agree that Pardew was lacking in the area of fitness and conditioning.

Bournemouth chairman "not welcome" directors box (sigh)
Graffito replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
This just isn't on. A man's got to buy his round. He can't come into our club, order drinks for everyone and then swan off without paying, just because we've got billionaire owners. That's just plain wrong. -
I left after the second goal. The first time I've ever left a Saints match before the final whistle. In acknowledgement of MKD, they brought on a bit of muscle up front and it worked, although it didn't take much, given our players' commitment to the cause.

He could start here by instilling a little positivity and belief. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/444569257?-11205

If there is underway, a change of approach with regard to the media, could it be down to Cortese apparently having engaged PR Company Square1? The following may well have been posted on here as I was abroad when published by the Mail on 3/9. "David Bick , Square 1’s financial PR ringmaster who orchestrated the Liverpool takeover media frenzy, has given himself a double task surely beyond even his creative abilities. He will defend the way media-banning Nicola Cortese is running Southampton and try to convince us that China’s Kenny Huang, who has withdrawn his bid, will be the next owner of Liverpool".

Bournemouth Chairman said this: "He's made his mind up - he's staying, whether they [southampton] come back or not." (quoted on the BBC). I reckon Howe was sounded out as to whether he would take the job if it were offered. That would be quite differed from being offered the job and would not mean he'd turned us down.
-
If he was indeed actually offered the job (which I believe is doubtful) then of course he turned it down, he was second choice. Best decision for both sides as well.

The value of a manager is what the the 'buyer" is willing to pay for him.

No apology necessary. At worst it was hyperbole...not unknown in the media. In any case, the interview process isn't yet complete and no appointment has yet been made.
