  1. Seems to me it's more the commentary on VAR that's been a bit of a shambles. VAR seems to me to have worked more or less exactly how it was intended to so far.
  2. Yeah, definitely think VAR has been a good thing at this World Cup.
  3. Seems weird to be going into a tournament with England as one of the better prepared sides. Now to see whether we can actually turn that into some decent performances.
  4. Who's said he would only move 5-20 miles?
  5. That was a bloody good game of football! I fear my chances of best goal sweepstake are gone with that third Spanish goal. Reminded me of Martina's against Arsenal
  6. Yep, that makes a few contenders for goal of the tournament!
  7. 16 people in our work sweepstake. One seeded team each, one non-seeded team. My seeded team... Russia. Still, goal of the tournament is one of the pots and goes to the team it's scored for. Slight outside chance with that second goal
  8. Maybe he wants to create that association in his own mind, so that it's linked to something positive for him, and not a reminder of what happened to his father? Everyone has to deal with this sort of stuff in their own way, and I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like. I'm not going to judge him on something like this.
  9. Whether they like it or not, players are looked up to and emulated. They're paid unbelievably highly for a highly public role, and with that comes the expectation that they act as role models. That said, seems like The Sun have well and truly stepped in it here. Ironically, they may well have helped Sterling out a bit, by making sure the story behind the tattoo is widely public knowledge before they have a chance to draw their own conclusions.
  10. If you want to make that argument, you'll be arguing with a LOT of people. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-man/10595457/Schadenfreude-is-the-dominant-emotion-for-football-fans.html https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/university-study-examines-schadenfreude-in-football-fans-300012052.html
  11. It's been there two hours already... can't believe he hasn't seen sense and deleted it yet
  12. That was the most fun I've ever had from a Real Madrid win
  13. Holy **** I hope that's the winner!!!
  14. https://mobile.twitter.com/SouthamptonFC/status/1000124405953933312 Heh. 'Sparky'.
  15. Unlikely any time soon as the top four associations are now all guaranteed four CL spots. Especially with English teams doing well this year, that'll have our coefficient pretty good for a few years. In any case, I'd like Real to win with a goal by Bale.
  16. If you want to query an infraction, normally the best way to do it is to reply to the infraction itself. That way I get a notification about it that I won't miss, instead of it being in a thread that I might have missed. That being said, I admit that I read it completely wrong and completely missed that it was a reference to Boufal's celebration, apologies for that. I've reversed the infraction now.
  17. Think it's expected to be three at the back with two wingbacks that Southgate will play.
  18. Rose has looked a shadow of his former self since his injury, hence consistently being dropped for Spurs. His own manager doesn't rate him any more, let alone pundits.
  19. On the reserve list.
  20. Apparently the combined cost of sacking Allardyce and hiring Silva could stretch to £16M
  21. I think it's less that Bertrand didn't deserve to be dropped and more that the others didn't deserve to replace him.
  22. The fact that Rose has been injured most of this season means he's a lower injury risk than Bertrand?
  23. https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=bertrand&src=typd Seems that 99.99% are mystified by the Bertrand omission.
  24. The 2058 Walking Football World Cup?
  25. http://www.thefa.com/england/mens-seniors/squad Bertrand misses out.
