If it was in the 70's I might have played you! Thereafter I moved to London. Oh and the point about it being cheap is very true and from memory there are dozens of clubs in and around Southampton.

There is no better game, been playing since 1973 and played 1000's of games and tournaments. Have a very good tourney coming up in 2 weeks at Uxbridge, 5 games over 3 days, one Friday night and 2 on Saturday and Sunday. Chris Nichol was a keen player, turned up at the Southampton Chess Club in the 70's when he was playing for us.
  3. Hehe, a late try for Hull KR and another away defeat for Saints As expected an easy win for Warrington.
  4. Since I didn't and never do do accas I was really hoping Wigan would win and they should have ! Just had a niggling feeling that Bradford might just nick it. Huddersfield won last night but at 52-0 nothing narrow about it lol The final two games should see a comfortable win for Warrington with a close game between Hull KR and Saints, really do hope that another Saints team lose this weekend !
  5. Oh for heavens sake, B'ham "scored" but Asst Ref did not give it but ball had clearly crossed the.
  6. Blo***y 1-0 Pompey, jammy goal 2-0, that's it.
  7. Still 0-0 at FP with 30 mins left, could scupper you and Dog though Brum are creating chances.
  8. Thanks for update, very interested to see who the spinner is. Would be very happy though not surprised if we got Lee for 20/20. Seems Simon Jones is progressing well, fingers crossed ! http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/phenomenal/

  10. Well it might also be a good idea not to limit yourself to football only. Eg, there are a few of us who are very keen Rugby League fans, that can often throw up "bankers" for Acca purposes and of course the more options you allow yourself the "easier" ( relatively speaking of course!) it would be to come up with selections.
  11. Castleford have lost a couple of players to injury and now Brett Ferres is on the sidelines, big loss. I expect Hull by at least 10 points, Leeds to thrash Quins and Warrington to win comfortably v Celtic Crusadrers. The other games all look like being close: Bulls v Wigan : In spite of Wigans great start I think Bradford might just nick this ( though I hope I'm wrong !) especially as Wigan were not tested at all last week which might mean it is hard for them to play with the intensity required. Salford v Catalans: Two sides playing very poorly, I will side with Catalan as I think they have more class. Wakefield v Huddersfield : Even the bookies cannot split these two with both teams on scratch on the handicap. However, for me I think Huddersfield are the better side so a narrow win. Hull KR v St Helens: No Matt Gidley for Saints and they will miss him. However, the luckiest side in SL history will probably manage a win So if I was doing an acca I'd go for Bradford, Saints, Warrington, Catalans, Huddersfield, Leeds and Hull. A £10 stake pays around £250.
  12. No class, no respect, no more to say.
  13. Hell will freeze over before there is even a semblance of accord on here. As I have stated on other threads in no way whatsoever is this forum representative of our fan base and that is largely down to certain individuals who are arrogant enough ( and quite frankly stupid enough) to believe their views are correct and no matter what nonsense they spout will just say "I'm entitled to my opinion" . Well I can't argue with that but the problem is you cannot reason with stupidity. So I'll live in my own little Saints world where things aren't black or white, where you never really know what is coming next but the sweet moments are really sweet. A 5-1 followed by a 5-0, Wembley to come, those things are for sure. As for the Cup runs being a "nuisance" can anyone tell me how much the games have earnt us ? A fair bit I am sure and I cannot imagine ML or NC being unhappy about the extra income or anyone not relishing a trip to Wembley. One thing I will say in deference to SOG who started this thread is that I pretty much agree with what you say and the arrogant posts of some are quite frankly totally disrespectful but that's of course the norm on here.
  14. Yep, the Alzheimers relented long enough for me to remember- though I think I have forgotten again ! Oddly enough I did watch some of the Olympics especially the Ice Hockey though got fed up that Freeview, at least on my TV anyway, refused to allow me to watch the Curling so I had to wait for live coverage.
  15. Clearly the difference in quality is very important, for all that I am a big fan of Pardew he clearly has a far better squad than JVP. However, the credit is due for signing a player we really needed in Puncheon and making the best use of the undoubted talent of Lallana. That said I'm not sure as it was too long ago whether players of the calibre of Paine and Sydenham were that adept at playing on the "opposite" wings if indeed they ever did !!
  16. Says the man with an avatar which surely breaks forum rules......even though it does relate to Pompey !!
  17. Playing there again v Harlequins in April I believe.
  18. Sheff Eagles RL team play there which makes sense as Don Valley is in Sheffield !
  19. No, I think the simple problem is that the Revenue want their money, much of it which will be Tax/NIC. Basically, its tax payer’s money and the collectors are there to collect it, no grey areas, just black and white. Pay up on time or they will take action. HMRC are getting more aggressive in early 2010 as over 250,000 companies are on some form of payment plan and many are failing to keep up with that time to pay plan. Many are seeing aggressive threats from HMRC so their attitude towards Pompey is completely in line with their current and indeed standard stance.
  20. Still far too young to die though I had never heard of him either. Fair to say the likely cause of death was something which sprang to mind though not because of David Carradine or Michael Hutchence but did not a Tory MP ( for somewhere local to Southampton ?) die from the same sort of "act" in the mid 90's ? Edit: Answering my own question it was Eastleigh MP Stephen Milligan. http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/february/8/newsid_2538000/2538165.stm
  21. Of course we got ourselves onto a fine mess but this level of debt, subterfuge etc; is truly mind boggling. Pompey deserve everything that is coming and with HMRC on their backs that is likely to be horrific ( for them). The Revenue do not think twice about forcing individuals into bankruptcy ( I used to work for them but don't tell anyone lol ) and I cannot imagine they'll show any mercy so it could well be bye bye Pompey.
  22. Accas are the bookies favourite bet bar none, for every big winner ( which in any event generates some nice free publicity) there are 100's of losing bets.
  23. Referees tend not to play on until certain teams score an equaliser unlike in the PL where Rule 9878 ( Sub section 4-B) states " The Referee shall not blow the final whistlle until Arsenal have had a minimum of 8 minutes of added time to score an equaliser. "
