I didn't say labour are making the same cuts, I said they have said that cuts have to be made, trouble is they don't say where, (maybe they have but it hasn't been put across to me). Most likely scenario they'll make the cuts where they see fit if they get into power, or the unions tell them. So they may be making cuts, but I certainly don't trust them not to borrow more money or not raise taxes. Add in to that the snp and you have chaos whether people admit it or not, or whether some posh tory boy says it or not. Anyway 3 posts for the day all gone now bye
-
Fair enough, I'm no expert but as far as I can tell labour need most of the seats in scotland to win, the snp look to getting most of these, so without these scottish seats then labour can't get a majority, is that right? I'm not trying to cause an argument with you but that's how I see it, if I'm wrong then fair enough
-
Because most people can't seem to see past 'Those bloody posh tories, let's give them one on the nose' reverse snobbery at its best. Deep inside you know milliband propped up by the snp would be a disaster for this country, but I guess peoples prejudices against these 'Eton posh boys' running the country will allow them to let their hearts rule their heads. Whether you like the people at the top or not, you know spending has to be cut, sacrifices have to be made, even labour admit that, trouble is can you really trust labour with the economy, even worse can you trust labour propped up by the snp with the economy. There is no way labour will win outright so you know what has to be done to prevent the snp ruining the country

No I understand that completely, even labour have said there will need to be big cuts, none of us know how much a labour government would have borrowed if they had been in government, trouble is I don't trust them, come on Balls for ****s sake, he just comes across as a bully boy, he's already failed once, do we just give him more goes until he gets it right. Trouble is with labour they love spending and they have to get the money from somewhere, either higher taxes or more borrowing as I see it, until they show me different it's how I feel I'm afraid. I have to agree with all you say, the trouble is politicians from both sides will tell you different things, only one of them can be right, meaning the other is lieing, that should never be allowed to happen, we need a publication we can all read which just states facts, no agendas, no opinions just hard facts. The other thing I think we should be doing is running the country like a huge conglomerate, buying up companies from around the world and running them with sole aim of making money for the British tax payer I'm sure the Chinese do a similar thing but probably not ditributing the wealth very well. If I could see us borrowing money to do that I'd be more open to borrowing than I to borrow to pay the bills

I'm just taking him at face value, as you have to with all politicians, I wouldn't have a clue how to get access to all the facts and figures that he and other politicians were spouting, you obviously do as you know he was spouting 'whoppers', are you able to point me in the direction where you got your figures from so I can educate myself and make a decision for myself? We may be able to get free healthcare in most of Europe with your Enic card, but that is supposed to be reciprocal, which it should be. Outside of the eu though is a different matter, we all see the stories of families selling their homes and fund raising to get some treatment abroad which isn't available here, if that treatment was available here all they'd need to raise is the plane fare over and hey presto free treatment, although nice in an ideal world it's not sustainable in the long term. Farage plays to his 'target market well' because he is a conviction politician who normal people identify with, this scares the other parties who resort to branding him a bigot hoping people will be too ashamed to vote for him, or thinking that by voting for him they're being rascist in some way. Last night I thought the best people were Sturgeon, Farage, Cameron then Milliband, it's no surprise to me, nor should it be to other people that the 2 at the top are politicians who have strong convictions and belief in what they're saying, even if I didn't agree with all that they say, at least they're passionate about what they're saying. Cameron seemed to be more believable than Milliband who just seemed to be stage managed and was trying to look like he believed what he was saying, but I get the impression he'd change his convictions if he thought it would win him votes. Labour might have a chance if they had someone like Sturgeon in charge, but I can never believe that you get out of debt by spending more money, when I've maxed out my credit cards in the past I've had to tighten my belt accordingly until they've been paid off, not order another one. I think that Labour and SNP would be a nightmare scenario and I don't think Milliband is strong enough to dominate the SNP whoes priorities would obviously be Scots. Conservatives on the other hand seem like the only party that takes responsibility, I don't agree with all their policies but I agree with their belief that you have to have clear the nations debts, I don't want this done by my taxes being raised so I'll vote for them

I know what Farage said about the HIV patients caused outrage but unfortunately it is an ugly truth, you can't blame people for coming here to get treatment, I'd do exactly the same, but unfortunately there is a finite amount of money to be spent. If it had been half of cancer diagnosis had come from Americans coming over here to seek treatment as they couldn't afford it back home people wouldn't have kicked up a stink, it's because HIV has been associated in the past as a 3rd world problem, then people think it is down to race, when what he is saying is we just can't afford to treat the whole world on our NHS, he's right people should have health insurance before coming here and not treated if not, every other country on the planet does this. We're very lucky here that health care is free, but it should be for British nationals only, not for anyone who can get here. We all have to get insureance before we go abroad.

Fact of the matter is we all know a plumber, an electrician or someone who has been paid cash in hand, most of us have paid cash to someone ourselves knowing full well that there will be no tax paid on it, but none of us get offended, in fact we'd be happy knowing full well we've paid less, not much different than Carr et al except the quantities and I suspect some tax has been paid, plus payments to accountants who then pay tax, fact is what they're doing is legal, maybe it should be made illegal, I don't know enough about it. Saying that, companies like google and starbucks who base they're business abroad to get more favourable tax rates, and pay less in countries where they have businesses should be chased, but again it's not illegal, until it is what can you do. One thing they have in common though is that they have all earned their money, from the plumber, Carr or google, whereas the person who has never worked has just been a drain on society, has offered nothing to anyone and has just taken from other people, the more of them there are the more taxes are required, so that money has to come from somewhere

Actually I do give a **** about the unemployed and the state of public services. What I don't give a **** about is people who refuse to work, coming out with all the excuses I got a bad back, there's no jobs etc, a lot of unemployed choose that lifestyle then throw themselves on the states mercy whinging how they can't afford to eat and how their kids will starve unless they're given more money, all the while firing out more kids. The conservatives give a **** about these people because they're trying to get them back to work, unlike labour who would just increase their benefits without encouraging them to work, great vote winner for the lazy. I know this happens as I have friends who haven't worked for most of their adult life, I have also seen friends of my children who have never actively looked for work since leaving school in the last couple of years, why should I subsidise these lazy people? I'm not sure what you mean about the state of public services, I know hospitals are overworked and understaffed, but that's for a number of reasons, people are living longer, increase in people moving here etc. Would love to see examples showing the 'state of public services', that to me just sounds like milliband's arguments last night which revolved around we could do better, but couldn't tell us how. I know things aren't perfect but just throwing good money after bad won't solve the issue

Colinjb, yeah I didn't really get my point across properly with the last point, what I meant was he seems to see a bandwagon, jumps on it because he thinks it will gain him political mileage and popularity without really thinking through the consequences, case in point is tuition fees, whilst I agree there needs to be a better system and in an ideal world it would all be free, but just coming out with I'll reduce it to £6000 cap without explaining how he's going to pay for it just sounds like someone hiding the truth or not really thinking through his policies, he'd probably raise taxes or borrow money. And yes the left are very good at sneering and looking down their noses at people who don't agree with them. The other thing that annoys me with the debates is that it's easy for the party not in power as you saw last night, just to turn round and point out the failures of the ruling party, of which there will be for any party in power and saying they'd do it better without really saying how, this is why no ruling party would want to do these debates, it gives the others an unfair advantage as they can't be judged on failures they haven't had chance to implement. Although it was quite funny last night when Paxman tore into Milliband about all his failed predictions of how the tory policies will fail.

Completely agree, I admit I lean towards their politics also, but hearing people argue that they shouldn't run the country because they're all posh toffs just smacks of jealousy and not what I want to hear. What does being posh have to do with your ability, or lack of for doing a job. I just believe that the conservatives are the only party that will act responsibly with our economy, milliband, balls et al just seem to act like the bloke down the road who's always going on holiday, always buying the new car, always spending more money whilst racking up the debt and moving it between credit cards. I know the conservatives annoy people and seem uncaring, but sometimes the right decision is the tough decision, there are 65 million people in this country and whatever a politician does is going to **** some group or other off. milliband just seems to want to please everyone and sod the consequences.

I accept it totally and know the players wont be here next season, it's just this attitude of he deserves better than us I don't like
-
Don't understand why people keep saying this, what a crap attitude to have, I suppose we should know our place in the football hierarchy as well and if we get too high up the league throw a few games so we can slot in to our rightful place. Whilst we're at it I'm only an average looking bloke maybe if I get a good looking girlfriend I should let her go off with a better looking guy as she's done her duty and deserves better now.
-
ahh, didn't see that
-
what do you mean by that?

Benteke would be the guy I'd like to sign to give Pelle competition

[quote name=Millbrook Saint This is a dig at you so apologies if it comes across that way.[/quote] Sorry that was meant to say isn't a dig at you. there goes my 3rd post of the day lol

As fans we need to change this attitude of 'he deserves to go to a bigger club' and 'we shouldn't begrudge him his move'. Yes Clyne has played well for us and we know that the players will always want to move and most likely get that move and who can blame then when they can triple their wages. But as a fan what the hell is 'he's served his time with us' supposed to mean, we're not here to groom players for the big clubs, we're supposed to have our own ambitions that don't involve losing our best players every season, I know we can't do anything about it and the club know that and will act accordinigly but surely we shouldn't just accept it like some cuckolded husband. I for one won't be applauding any player who comes back to play against the club, we need to stop acting little old Southampton grateful that these players once played for us. This is a dig at you so apologies if it comes across that way.

I don't mean to put a dampner on things but surely the reason for the quick growth is promotion from League 1, with its low tv revenue, to the premier league, with its outrageously high tv income. We have obviously made a lot of money from player sales which I would imagine is another source of income we'll be looking to emulate over the coming years, just how successful this will be thouogh is anyones guess. Then there's always the possibility of the player replacements not being as good, though we done well this year.

Guly being the most recent I can think of
-
I wouldn't imagine the media are that worried. The more likely scenario in my opinion is other clubs getting worried, after all there are only 4 places for Champions League (not that I think we'll get there). The other clubs see us buying and producing players, then selling them on for big profits to the likes of them, they would most likely want to cut the middle man out and save themselves a fortune. If they can release stories to a hungry press about taking our staff, be it players or backroom people they will do so as they will hope it destabilises us, placates their own fans and hopefully in the long term change their fortunes. Unfortunately these clubs have the ear of certain friendly journalists who will happily peddle the clubs ****e.

Completely agree, he should get no game time until he signs a contract. If he wants to go let spurs get him match fit not us

Is Itchen North better than The Northam

The OWTS for 15 minutes sounded brilliant I agree, hats off to all who were singing. I just don't see OWTS as rousing and something that will raise the players' performance, whilst it is our song and one which we are known for (though other teams seem to want to steal it), it would be great if we had another song that was in the same vein as Celtic's and Liverpools You'll Never Walk Alone. A lot of the songs seem to be in response to the away fans, would be great if all our songs were directed at the team, singing about Southampton, urging them on. Not saying we are any different than most clubs, would be good to stand out from the crowd though. Unfortunately haven't been abale to afford to go away since we've been promoted, looks like this may be the last year I have a season ticket too, what with the prices and cost of living going up. -

yes it's serious, would you like to explain what you mean by that, make sure you say it all though I only have one post left and can't be arsed to waste it on sarcastic comments or questions -

From what I can tell they might sing a lot but most of it is pretty cringeworthy. 1. Who the **** is Pochetino - who gives a ****, he's nothing to do with us, you make us look bitter and small time 2. We are Southampton we sing when we want - in response to away fans taking the **** out of us being quiet, do i need to say more 3. Oh When The Saints - sounds good wish we had another song as well though 4. some others that involve taking the **** out of away fans which is ok in moderation, not constantly though What we need is an anthem, something the whole crowd can get to know and sing round the ground, something like, dare i say it the scousers singing you'll never walk alone, something where the team hears it and it gives them an extra stride, something the away team can be in awe of, making them disappear back into their shells when they hear all 4 sides singing it. Something that we become known for, doesn't have to be particularly about Southampton, just a rousing song that becomes associated with us. Come on then clever fellas, any ideas as I'm far too thick to think of anything
