Is Ronald Koeman the highest-merited manger in the Prem.?
Millbrook Saint replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
I personally don't think that being a top player necessarily makes you a good manager, in fact I think it may hinder in some cases. The more talented players don't have to think about the game as it all comes naturally, whereas the less skilfull players have to make up for their deficiencies by thinking about what they need to do and how to get an advantage over another player. This then helps them in managerial positions with tactics etc. Of course they also need the charisma to make other people want to follow them, so a player who has both will make the best managers. In my opinion of course -
Would people hypothetically pay more at the gates for more signings?
Millbrook Saint replied to eddie's topic in The Saints
So another £200 on my season ticket making it around £900. Nah don't think so. In fact I'm at the limit of being able to afford it as it is, once it reaches the £800 mark will probably signal the end of my season ticket. As it is my 2 lads no longer go as they've been priced out, next one will be my daughter, then me. -
Jesus Christ, you're actually pleased that we're struggling, just so you can say told you so. Two things, one, even a stopped clock is right twice a day and two you're a bellend

We may have spent a lot of money but that was all getting replacements for players which left, we haven't been splashing the cash making the first team stronger, we've been splashing the cash replacing our top players with not as good players (yet). You can't really compare to tottenham or Arsenal who don't lose half their squad each summer and have to replace them, it would be very nice to keep our first team together and adding just one top player to the squad each summer. Then if we spent say £30 million we'd be splashing the cash

Please name the player we should have signed to replace Morgan
Millbrook Saint replied to redkeith's topic in The Saints
The trouble is we don't need him to be that player in a years time, we needed someone to come in and hit the ground running, Morgan was our main man and we haven't replaced him. We should be subsidising potential with ready made players, Juanmi, Clasie etc may be ok in a year but what about now -
You saying there are problems behind the scenes? would love to know what they are if you have any info?

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
Millbrook Saint replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
No if they think they are at war with us then we treat them as such. All mosques should be told in no uncertain terms that anyone alleging themselves with any Islamic terror groups will be arrested, they will then be incarcerated in a prisoner of war camp until the 'war' is over or if they prefer sent to the Islamic country of their choice with no chance of return. No refugees should be allowed in, all boats in the med shoUld be turned back. The people who run these countries should be supported if they request it, if not let them sort their own mess. Lastly we should stop interfering in these countries, there's a reason they're run by dictators, we may not like what they do but at least they have control -
Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES

This is how negotiations would go. What do you want? To make this country muslim and everyone to become muslim. We won't do that. Then you should all die -
Not really, no..... Maybe in the future. Just a bit of artistic licence on my part of to get my point across, afterall I thought we all went to football to watch good players, not to marvel at the amount of money the club get as another player I enjoy watching walks out the door.
-
yeah so would I, after all I'd much rather the club have money than for me to watch a genuine world class player playing for us.
-
Of course it matters how you do things, I'm sure people would be more understanding if I murdered some perv from down the road who'd been fiddling with my kids than if I put my impeccable suit on and started strolling round killing people for a crack. At the end of the day adam was signing liverpool shirts when he was our player, that is fecking disrespectful whatever way you paint it, people don't foregt ****e like that I agree the key issue is that we struggle to retain ambitious players but until we pay the wages, which the premier league won't allow as they don't want anyone ruining their 'big club' ****fest and Katerina most likely won't sanction, what can we do? At least we aint losing players to teams like Sunderland or Swansea

Wanyama Transfer Rumours - Summer 2015 Edition
Millbrook Saint replied to brett24's topic in The Saints
/ Well for starters he cried off for our biggest game of the season so far, would the result have been different if he'd played? I know he was seen up the hospital but he could have faked the illness, the club would take no chances with a multi million pound asset. Secondly he looks to not be playing today when we need to play our best players. Whether the bloke is playing up or not we need to stand firm in this instance, bit like we did with Morgan last year, tell spurs to do one, unless they want to swap for Kane. If victor doesn't like it he should sit in the reserves till he comes around. I know the club is being pragmatic in most cases but as fans sometimes we need to feel like we've won a battle, beaten off the other team and can hold our heads high, instead of feeling bullied and pushed around by these clubs. We all know Victor will go at some point, but on our terms only and not to spurs -
Agree we done really well last season. First 2 games haven't been great so far but we may get better. Thing is how often can we keep replacing players like this every season and get away with is, sooner or later we'll get it wrong. Not only that clubs need players that fans can get excited about, who they know and look forward to watching, not a different bunch of strangers each year, then as you start to feel you know them they've gone. How we going to attract the younger generation when their heroes disappear off to a different club each year.
-
Depressing all the same, buy inexperienced player/s, train up, make good (sometimes), team starts doing well, team gets decimated. Start again. The club might make money but that's of no interest to me, I want to watch us doing well, not us become a breeding ground for the top teams
-
Why, what impact does the club getting £30m have on you? Surely seeing a decent player play each week and the club building a better team is more preferential to you as a fan?

Sky reporting Fonte in talks with Villa
Millbrook Saint replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I certainly was and when the club came out with an unequivocal statement saying Schneiderlin was going nowhere, that is exactly what happened. -
Sky reporting Fonte in talks with Villa
Millbrook Saint replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
The club need to put a stop to this rumour with a no nonsense statement saying we have no intention of selling our captain to a club like villa. If Jose is angling for a move we need to take him to one side and tell him that it's not happening, then if he feels the same next season or at christmas let it be known via the press/agents that we're willing to listen to offers for him, so it looks like we want rid not the other way round. We need to show that we're the ones calling the shots, this is all about perception, the club may be happy to let him go, but we need to show that it is us instigating the sale, not the player wanting a move, or a club coming in with a bid. -
CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
Millbrook Saint replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints
Have to say I agree wit this, although frustrating for us fans I'm sure the club are working behind the scenes. The thing is we are trying to get potentially future top players, other clubs will be sniffing around and it's not like we're Man U or Chelsea, these players will want to see if these type of clubs will come in for them first. If we want quick signings the maybe we should be going for lesser players who'll be grateful to sign fo us, but imagine the uproar if we signed someone like jos just because we want a quick signing. -
I thought Cork was in his last year of his contract and refused to sign a new one, that being the case then he wouldn't have been here now anyway. We should have offered him a new contract last summer though.

Strengthening immediate Competitors

They also have champions league most years and potential to win titles, not something we're ever likely to do -
Strengthening immediate Competitors
Millbrook Saint replied to Saint Without a Halo's topic in The Saints
I just hope that we replace these players sooner rather than later, it did feel we were a little naive when it came the Alderweireld transfer, was he really interested in staying once tottenham came sniffing. My thoughts are we should be more decisive when bidding and a little nastier ala levy As galling as it is, I think we all have to do accept our position, the last few years have given us hope that we could get near the top clubs but we have been put back firmly in our place the last couple of seasons. Trouble is, the way football works at the moment means it will never be a level playing field, we will mostly find that the table positions reflect the wealth of the club/owners and their willingness to spend. In fact we should forget about playing football and every May just have a table of clubs in the order of wealth and whoever has the most money gets the premier league title (Joke). -
Strengthening immediate Competitors
Millbrook Saint replied to Saint Without a Halo's topic in The Saints
To be fair the teams we are strengthening are liverpool and tottenham, whilst they may be direct competitors on the pitch, at least last season anyway, they're not competitors anywhere else. These are both huge clubs with global coverage and we have no way of competing with them, look at tottenhams new stadium plans 62,000 people, most likely full each week, then they're going to be holding nfl games there which brings extra revenue, we will never compete with this in the near future. What we need to do is try and turn ourselves into a global brand, whereby we have supporters from around the world and country and not just the local area, unfortunately we'd have to spend big to do this like chelsea have, pre Abramovich they were big but never really had a global appeal. Unfortunately for us success will breed more income, to get success we need to spend big and the rules don't allow this as the premier league would prefer to keep their golden clubs at the top as they're the teams that attract interest around the world and helps them sell their product. -
I doubt if this is just Ronald and les sitting around a table going I reckon this contract says this or that, surely lawyers would have read through the contracts and given them the green light to do this?
-
Just my opinion but I think west ham are just trying to flex their muscles, they may or may not be interested in our players but they're most likely trying to make us look like the lesser club who they can just come in and take our players at will like liverpool

Nathaniel Clyne Joins Liverpool - Official
Millbrook Saint replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
That seems to be the worse part of that sentence, acting as if liverpool are in someway greater than England
