Puel might be an ok manager but his football is boring, it feels like watching West Brom, albeit we may have more skillful players. The problem with producing boring football is that the exciting skillful players get frustrated, how long before the players that are supposed to excite us fook off to a team where they get to showcase their talents, then we just end up with plodders. Pochetino, when he was here built up the players confidence, made them play above themselves, gave them confidence to take on teams, the players then love playing for him, players from other clubs want to be part of that. To me when he gets the players to play so defensive he's telling them that they're not as good as the other team so we need to shut up shop to get anything from the game. This should not be how we play

As said above, what a knob, must concentrate when having 2 conversations at once lol Feel free to edit as appropriate

lol, guessing I did, what a ******* knob, must learn to proof read what I write.

Marco Silva, no doubt whatsoever, in fact I'd break the bank, we should show our ambition and and take him from Hull in the same way that other teams take players/managers from us. He's taken a team with very little talent, galvanised them and got them playing good football. Imagine what he could have done this season with some of the players we have. It's a no brainer, bin this cure for amnesia and get Silva in before our players get themselves moves elsewhere, though it may already be too late for that.
-
Agreed but if we'd kept Mane, wanyama etc it'd be a lot easier to keep vid and maybe we would be in the top 6 next year
-
Have to admit I thought he was out of his depth before christmas, the way we kept chopping and changing, the way we seemed to play not to lose rather than to win the game. Lots of possession, some decent passing, with no end product. Watching us now the football is good, the problem appears to be the final 3rd where our players run out of ideas, this was alleviated by Gabbiadini somewhat, now he's out injured we've reverted to the same lack of ideas, last night was the exception with Yoshida and Ward Prowse scoring. I personally think he's been let down by the club, when he has the tools we're good, without them we struggle, I think it's a credit to him getting us this far, having to play academy players during the season who have all improved along the way. If we can keep this team together and add to it during the summer I think next season will be exciting. So over to you Les....... sort it out

My email to the club concerningpre-game music and atmosphere
Millbrook Saint replied to sifter's topic in The Saints
Have to agree with that, none of the songs we sing are original, they're just regurgitated songs from other clubs with names to changed to suit our players. What we need are songs about Southampton as a club or a city. Our fans also seem to have a mentality of thinking they're too cool to sing what they class as cringey songs, case in point is Palace, the songs might be ****e, but the atmosphere is good, that new Man U song everyone moans about, again probably ****e but at least it gets the noise and atmosphere up -
reckon we might see the new fella second half
-
Shouldn't have been a goal, his foot was all the way over the line when he took the throw, should have been a foul throw
-
Not sure how much I'd be laughing about this, pretty sure the first thing Koeman will do is try and sign VVD.
-
Yeah, guess the club took the view that him spitting his dummy was the same as placing a transfer request, shame those bridges couldn't have been rebuilt but I guess football is a game full of egos. I wonder if he ever lays in bed at night and regrets that move to whu
-
Fair enough, I wouldn't know personally, sounds like Fonte made his position untenable thinking a top club would come in for him, then realised in Jan that there were none, but too late, bridges already burnt. Would love to know exactly what happened behind the scenes
-
Wonder what happens in the summer if the club get offered £50m, can't see Les turning that down whether VVD wants to go or not. As for this new story about Puel wanting rid of Fonte, that may or may not be the case, but it certainly helps Les off the hook, bit of a coincidence coming out now, just as he's getting flak and not at the time it actually happened.
-
Totally agree, this has to be sanctioned by the club/Kat, Les needs to be told that money is no object to get this across the line, we have a major cup final which should provide an incentive to any player. Once completed Les should be hauled up in front of Kat and be made to explain how he allowed this to happen and why the club has been forced down this path. The excuse that he couldn't get the 4 rumoured deals across the line on the last day is not valid, everyone knew we needed at least one centre back, back at the start of the season when Fonte was acting billy big ********, Les is paid to do this, if he isn't capable of completing deals then he shouldn't be in his role. Problem in all of this is the fact that I imagine Kat isn't very tuned in to the football business, as I imagine Les is the one she goes to for advice. If she were to decide he isn't performing to her satisfaction, does she have the contacts to find the right man to replace him. I can imagine Les likes to keep her away from this so he keeps his position safer.
-
Depends if you call being successful staying in the premier, ok we were in Europa but look how that went. We're in the league cup final, with our 3rd choice centre back and an under 23s centre back. We may be stable, but I personally think not even getting a centre back in on loan is a big mistake we could pay for, there's always a club which freefalls down the league let's hope it's not us. Let's see how stable things are if we get relegated. The thing is if us idiots could see we needed one why couldn't Les, if, as I suspect he did, then why didn't we get one, maybe the black box was set to 2012 prices. Personally I suspect he was going for Sahko, thought he'd try and call liverpool's bluff by waiting till the end of the window but then palace step in and we've fooked it up, maybe we got in touch with liverpool and they just rebuffed us for ****ing about. Now we're in the situation where I can see us letting in at least one goal a game until VVD is back, if that's the end of the season then we're in trouble as we can't seem to score at the other end, what a recipe for disaster. Our season and premier league survival is dependent on if VVD gets back to fitness and if this new Italian fella can find the net. You always hear pundits talking about 2 things that can get teams relegated, either a leaky defence or a lack of goals, just need manager loses dressing room for a full house. For a stable and well run club this looks like complete and utter amateur hour to me.
-
Pretty much agree with this, managers and players will always use us a stepping stone until the attitude at the club changes. The clues were always there, when the club mentions sustainable business model, read into that, that everyone has a price and the priority at the club is to always have a positive bank balance forfeiting any ambition to win things. Managers aren't interested in bank balances, unless of course you're Wenger, managers want to win things and enhance their reputation, they don't care if we made a profit this year in place of league standings, do you really think managers like Poch or Koeman, both successful players were ever going to be content with us selling our best players and never making a sustained attempt at winnings things, no of course not. Unless we as fans can come to terms with this fact then there's going to be a lot of unhappy people each summer. Trouble with this business model is that it won't take long before fans start looking round at clubs being successful with our ex managers and players and thinking what might have been, it's not a big jump from there to apathy, then no longer attending games and before you know it season tickets sales are down and the stadium is half empty. A bit of ambition from the board when the feelgood factor was running through the club and I genuinely believe the stadium could have been expanded and who knows what could have happened.
-
I think we all know our business model, the trouble is we all knew in the summer the signings weren't good enough, but the board played us all for mugs. Now we're in a world of trouble, seemingly with no goal scorers, a manager possibly out of his depth and an unambitious board
-
Thanks Ralphy boy, i think we all know how football works, what we don't appreciate is you hanging a for sale sign round all our players heads for the world to see. Mugging us off with ****e replacements isn't appreciated either, so maybe instead of spouting off in the press about how you love to sell players and make others stronger, yku concentrate on making our club stronger
-
Just playing devils advocate but how do we know Reed didn't try to get a striker, just to be told that there was no money available, it's easy to blame him but if Kat won't release funds his hands are tied
-
Surely Les is only doing as directed from above, i'm sure if Kat told him he had unlimited funds he'd be out buying Costa and Ibrahimovich, as it is she's probably told him there are limited funds so he has to make do
-
Think you'll find global tv deals are only relevant as a way to raise money, looks like the chinese don't have this problem, not sure if they're state funded or what, needless to say they can play in empty stadiums with no one watching on tv and they'll still have the same money. We can all laugh at the big teams but this is a worrying scenario for us, if we lose the tv deals it won't be just them losing out, it'll be the end of us signing players like Hojberg, mane vvd etc
-
Everton know they won't be getting him, what they do know though is good pr. Making it look like they are in with a chance of signing him does 2 things, firstly makes them look like they're on a level with clubs like city etc and secondly makes it look as though we're on a level well below them and ripe for picking by them. Wouldn't surprise me if it was someone from their club putting bets on, knowing how it will skew the odds. One thing scousers are good at is pr and the media lap it up for some reason. Our club could do with taking a leaf from them re. Pr

Rumours of takeover/investment interest
Millbrook Saint replied to eling-saint's topic in The Saints
My worry is that with China trying to build their league, they may be snapping up premier league clubs in order to weaken them and the league in an attempt to turn their league into what the premier is now. Probably miles from the truth and paranoid but.... -
The trouble with klopp is he's falling for the scouse mentality where he thinks they are superior to everyone and can't understand why we're not grateful that they have deemed one of our players worthy of playing for such a 'mighty club'. As it is I'm just surprised that we're not all falling over ourselves in awe that they are coming here, maybe we should have a parade and lay out some red carpet for that mighty team we all wish we were
-
Never really fell for that crap, but what annoyed me was the way he was signing the scouse shirt and telling that kid he hopes to sign soon whilst at the world cup... on tv too, when he was still our player. Disrespectful little *****.
