Mc Carthy played well, good job too because we didn't create anything. First half in particular Smallbone and Aribo were constantly looking for the safe option. Having said that, if Aribo had taken the safe option and put his laces through that corner, we would have got a point. Dibling needs to come on earlier if we are behind, and Diaz should be played inside more if we are behind, not stuck on the wing. Hopefully, Fernandes is in for Aribo next week. Also, there should be retrospective booking/ban for any player that feigns a head injury to get play stopped. Pure cheating and dangerous too, as it runs the risk of a genuine head injury being ignored.

My nightmare was that we would miss out by Baz punting that ball up the pitch at Ipswich, instead of rolling it out to Downes! Missing out by 9 points is more manageable. As for Saturday, play Charles instead of Downes. If Charles is underperformed, don't haul him off after 45 minutes. Tell him what he is doing wrong and give him time to put it write. No Brooks or Rowthorne to start, they are only good of the bench. AA, Adams and Fraser up front. It is our best combo.

Totally agree about the DM situation. That was the big hole in the squad in January. Not Rothwell. I watched Leeds take Ipswich apart at Elland Road, basically by exploiting the space behind the full backs, the left back in particular. Stu Armstrong looks like he needs a rest so swap him for Aribo, and even though Smallbone was poor yesterday he needs to stay in the team as he is very important to the tempo of passing. There was a lot of poor passing today, Smallbone, Armstrong s , Adams and Brooks in particular. I was a shit Sunday League substitute, but I would back myself to find Fraser in all that space. That last miss by Adams was truly bad. Normally he puts every shot down the middle of the goal. All he had to do was toe poke it on target . I can remember a great Steve Williams goal against Norwich at the Dell. Keegan passed it square to Williams on the half way line. Williams then slalomed past 5 or 6 of the Norwich team before curling it round the keeper from the inside left position. Keegan joked about it the paper afterwards that, in America that would have been an assist. Personally, I quite like assists, but it is not always a pass that is important, a good diversionary run could be more important.

I think it was too low to head, and slightly to high for the finish he tried. If he had angled his foot so his toes were pointing at the ground it would have flown in.
