  1. Once again, Pardew proves he's an astute judge of a player and if we get him for the rumoured £400,000, rather than Claridges's £750,000 valuation from a couple of years ago, then we've got a bargain! Keep it up AP. :-)
  2. This may be the cor blimey thing: http://saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=15962
  3. Anyway, I think MLT has made a pretty shrewd assessment of the league and to make a point pertinent to today, if we come away with anything this afternoon, we'll have done well.
  4. This sad little episode just shows Lowe's judgement of things football for what it was - very poor. Let's all be thankful that ten years of gradual decline are now over and by lucky happenstance, the future looks rosy for those with some patience. I just want to forget the last few years and move on.
  5. He did pretty well earlier this year, he wants to be here and he'd be good in League one - him and Thomas would surely improve our resistance to crosses, etc. I am sure he would be relatively cheap on the wages and he certainly wouldn't make the squad any worse! I'd rather have him then an "OK, I'll come if you pay me enough" sort of player. We've had too many of those in the past.
  6. Now the Echo page about it has stopped working! Just a coincidence? They must be changing it to "done deal!" :-)
  7. Jan-Paul Saeijs is still at Roda JC in Holland at the moment, so presumably only a phone call away from another loan spell. How about it, Mr Pardew?
  8. "Don't flurry; patience gains the day" seems to be the Pardew way. Now we'll just have to wait for the astute, good value player signings.
  9. The end of an era and probably the last of his kind. He'll be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.
  10. There will be an announcement Friday... ...I reckon Murty and someone we've never heard of on a Bosman.
  11. I think I would have given up on football altogether, although, eventually, I might have gone back to grass roots with a team like Salisbury City (not intending any disrespect to Nick Holmes' team!)
  12. Look at this thread: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=15123 This sort of performance is perfectly OK for some, apparently, and these games are meaningless. If I were a Saints player at the moment, I would be doing everything I could to impress the new boss and playing my heart out to win. How many current players have looked like they're really trying?
  13. Just about the worst moment in my Saints supporting life was seeing the team's abject surrender to Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup. They minced around like a bunch of girls in a disco who didn't know where to put their handbags down and the same mentality is still running through the team. SFC has one of the poorest win ratios in the Football League. It's got to stop now and I hope, really hope, that Pardew is the man to make it happen. I feel sure that Herr Liebherr demands success from all his employees and that AP will make that clear to the players.
  14. Let's hope he lays down similar rules for fitness and training.
  15. "Will he do a Keegan?" There is nothing in his past to indicate that. I think he was picked because he thinks in a similar way to the new management - using no more than is necessary to get the job in hand done and build gradually. I would like to think that he doesn't want to "do a Sparky" and he wants to show that he can do a good job without spending a fortune. After all I reckon I could make things happen if I had £2 -300,000,000 to spend!
  16. I think this shows how shrewd the new owner and his team are. If you look at all the currently unemployed British managers, you'd have to look hard to find someone with a better track record and better experience. 47% win rate? when was the last time we had that? Well done all concerned. Here's to three years and more of spiralling upwards!
  17. ...and what's wrong with Star Trek? I quite like the kit, it's certainly different, though I suspect our shirt sponsors may have had some say, given how their name stands out.
  18. Beatrice Hall wrote "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." -- The Friends of Voltaire, 1906 This is a forum and people express opinions. GM thinks the boycotters were wrong, others disagree. Nothing new to see here, move along.
  19. He who pays the piper, etc, etc... I know the fans ultimately do the paying but the new owner is the man with his hand in his pocket at the moment, so we should respect his decision until it all goes wrong, of course!)
  20. Mark, thanks for sticking with us through the dark days, but this could have been avoided. Who gave Wotte the new contract and why?
  21. WGS would have done better (and stayed, probably) if he'd had the final say in player purchases, IMHO. Hopefully, the new manager will have control in such matters.
  22. Are you a Dalek? He was on Five Live saying how he had turned down 16 job offers and how happy he was. I would like him to stay in Spain. He is doing worthy work there.
  23. It's now as if his time at Saints never happened. He'll be no more than a pimple on the bottom of my memory very soon.
  24. Wise 4/1? No, please NO!!!
  25. "the rough translation from German is "Love Mr"...... we all know how much man-love goes about Southampton!!" Hmm! From my limited experience, Southsea is the man-love capital of Hampshire. After all, I've never seen men dressed as "ladies" on the pull in Southampton, not even in Shirley!
