Can you imagine i?. We're playing Liverpool. Somehow we've found ourselves a goal up with a minute to go. Liverpool need to win. They score a goal, and part of Saha's shoulder is shown as offside. At the moment, no problem goal doesn't get given. But now it can be called 'Marginal' You've got three Liverpool blokes in the Commentary box going mental, ready to explode. You've got a referee who knows him and his family are going to get pounded on social media with threats after the game if he doesn't give it. Oh guess what?... he uses the 'Marginal' card. Everyones happy.
-
If they bring in this whole 'Marginal' thing it will be a disaster for us. We will get bent over & they won't even use lube. On the other hand the 'Big Six' will be getting loads of 'Marginals' as it's in everyones interests for those teams to be battling for Europe as they have the biggest worldwide fanbases who buy more products, subscriptions, etc.. The advertisers don't want little old Saints disturbing the hierarchy.
-
The trouble is what is then 'Marginal'? If i was a defender I literally wouldn't know how to do my job (we have enough trouble as it is). If a player is 5mm in front of me is that marginal?...or 8mm?..or a inch. Surely you have to define marginal, then bring in that ruling? Otherwise you're saying to a defender, 'Well a player can be infront of you as long as it's marginal. As a defender i would then say 'Ok what is marginal?'....and at that point the FA probably won't know what to say.

This thread wouldn’t exist if we hadn’t won four out of six. It would be lingering below the ‘Southampton..why do we even exist?’ Thread.

Son out of the Saints game!

I'm sorry but if I was doing badly in my job & then I posted a picture of myself at a nightclub, I would be sacked.End of.

I think it would be better if the third line was, 'Lives just off Hill Lane'

I loved it back then. Amateurism & all.

Doesn't change my point though. Cricket historically played teams an uneven amount of times.
-
It was completely normal in cricket throughout the 70/80's t0 play one team once and another team twice. It's always been one of those weird things in cricket. In 1973 when we won the championship there were 17 teams in a single division & Hampshire played 20 games. In 1986 when we came 2nd there were 17 teams in a single division and we played 24 games. In my first season of watching 1979 Hampshire played 21 games in a 17 team division. It's all part of the weird charm of cricket, that's why Americans don't understand it.

If you had said at the start of the decade that the bloke who presented The American version of The Apprentice, and another bloke who would occasionally appear on Have I Got News For You, & became London Mayor and hoisted himself in a harness waving a Union Jack in his work shoes, would by the end of the decade be two of the most powerful men in the world, you would have got some funny looks. I don't think it's a complete coincidence that those two things have happened during the first real age of an active social media. I'm not really criticising it. It's more an observation, but I do find it interesting. Ultimately the public have voted for them, and as we are well aware, 'the public get what the public want'

People saying things like 'Bonkers, ridiculous decision, they must be mad'... Anyone remember the comments on here when Nigel got sacked? Can't remember who replaced him.

All you've done is name a load of **** sports. Maybe being 'Middle Class' does make you a ****. Oh for ****s sake. I'm screwed.
-
Ok , but the Southampton fans on there are doing it as well. To be honest it's a 'thing' isn't it?. You get it in music. Bands always want to be perceived as 'working class'. It always used to get chucked at Joe Strummer in The Clash that he was 'Middle Class' sort of a stick to beat him with. I don't know if it's just a British phenomenon? I'm middle class, & even i've find myself at times scrabbling around to try and find some 'working class' credentials. It just intrigues me more than anything. Is there any area of sport or the arts where people would proudly claim to be middle class? It's just not something i've ever heard. I actually really enjoyed that documentary BTW, but it was just something that sort of bugged me from Southampton & Pompey fans alike.
-
Why the obsession with both sets of fans to prove how working class they are?
-
Robbie Savage predicted 18th, so it looks like he's got that wrong. Tosser
-
If you're going to sack him...do it now. Don't do it in January.
-
I literally neve heard Dave Merrington so angry. He was bewildered with Ralphs selection/tactics.
-
Come on Saints, lets go for three points!
-
Let's prove Robbie Savage wrong.
-
Why do you have to make reference to her appearance at all? Can't you just call her Kat?
-
HI I"M ROBBIE SAVAGE!!! I"VE HAD TOO LISTEN TO YOU ****S SLAG ME OFF FOR A FEW MONHS!! ANY CHANCE OF AN APOLOGY????
-
Hi..I'm Robbie Savage!

The onus then is going to be on the referee not to give it in the first place. If todays had NOT been given, it would have been interesting to see if it would have been overrturned by VAR. My guess is they would NOT have given a penalty after review.
-
People are going to have to get used to the fact that if there is contact and the ref gives it, then VAR will never overrule it. In essence it can't. If you do overule it then how do you set the future benchmark of how strong a player needs to be touched to cause them to fall over? It will only ever overrule if the ref gives it and there is clearly zero contact. BTW i'm not actually disagreeing with you...but just saying that's the reality.
