I came third in the fancy-dress competion run by Unc. Tone in conjunction with Sothampton Carnival, sometime in the late 70s. I was royally p!ssed-off because the winner & runner-up got to ride in this small open-top bus and I had to walk the whole bloody route!

I still get it & there are plenty still on sale in the newsagents in Romsey (maybe because no one is buying it) It'll be a real shame if it disappears . I've bought it since I was about 14 years old, I would buy it after my Sunday Morning paper round (along with Roy of the Rovers & a couple of those Commando war story comic books). I like to look at the 'Scare are they now section', I've been in there a few times over the last year or so.

Nobody else has gone for it so I will: "As a hole Portsmouth is one of the best" Taxi...........

Distinct lack of ambition here, personally I'd go for: 13/14 Europa league 14/45 Prem/FA Cup/Champions League Treble Mind you if we win any of these I'd be pretty chuffed.

I like to see comitted players willing to fight for a cause. Unlike previous seasons we seem to have several players who are willing to get stuck in for the good of the team. For a few seasons now, I’ve struggled to find a favourite player, however, this year it’s not because our players are crap, but because I’m spoilt for choice: KD, probably the best keeper in L1 and shown us a huge amount of loyalty when on a couple of occasions it would have been easier for him to walk away. Trotman & Jaidi look solid. Harding looks class and you can see how committed he is by the way he harangues the ball-boys when we have a throw-in. Hammond seems to have the middle sewn-up Lambert is proven quality and will score plenty for us I guess if I had to choose only one, it would currently be Harding. For me the future looks bright, the future is red & white.

Completely agree. I'll be there, along with 5 other friends/family. Good pricing structure, for this stage in the tournament. Kick-off time is a pain in the arse, but he-ho, can't have everything. Hopefully we can get into a winning habit & win the think.

32 months is way too short for taking someones life. I wonder whether, if he had been a serving customs officer, who had undergone the Police driving course and was speeding back from a football match, certain posters would have been calling for a lighter sentence.

That is more or less what I did, except I held up a folded newspaper, did look a bit of a tw @t though.

U.S. Military may lift ban on women in submarines

I hope the girls in your class are safe:mad: -
For large patches of the game we dominated a team who are flying, a team that are currently third in the league having won 7 of the 10 games played. Their keeper made 2 great saves, we should have had a penalty, their goal was an absolute screamer, I doubt if their guy will score many more like that in his career, on top of all this Kelvin, Jaidi & Trotman each had mares, which every one is entitled to occasionally. Having read some of the posts on here, (after the first 2 pages I stopped reading & just scanned a few), it sounds like the world is about to stop spinning and Itchen bridge is about to get very crowded, I hope the General Hosp is ready for such a large intake of attempted suicides. I read one poster who ‘really hates’ (his/her words) SFC. In that case bugger-off and find a winning team to support (Man U possibly). I really can’t understand why people are calling for Pardews head. When he arrived here, the vast majority of fans were over-joyed, after the Radio Silent debate he was declared my many as almost a demi-god, now all of a sudden he’s crap & should be sacked. I don’t remember too many Chelsea fans shouting for their guv’nors head after loosing to Wigan! Sh!t happens, get over it. What would have happened to us if we’d sacked Lawrie Mac when we were relegated in his first season – no FA Cup is my guess – who knows? The manager needs to be given time to do his job, oh hold on…I suppose he should be sacked because we’ve not tried that particular tactic for a while. Some people need to get a grip on reality, we’ve lost a match, never mind, the kids are still healthy and I’ve still got a job that pays the mortgage. Hopefully we’ll win on Saturday. Not so long ago we were worried we wouldn’t have a team to support, fortunately we still do – be grateful for small mercies.

No, they drift on what little breeze there might be. I remember when I did a paper round (30 years ago - and yes my memory does stretch back that far, just), and had to walk up garden paths with high hedges each side. As I was usually the first person to go down these paths (it was a morning round) I would often get these strands of web across my face, you could hear them 'ping' when they broke.

Saw this on telly the other day. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8273960.stm I'm afraid you will have to lear to love 'em.

U.S. Military may lift ban on women in submarines

Have you seen how women drive, bumping the family motor into the gate post is one thing, backing a nuclear sub into a dockside is another…… Cheap gag, I’ll get my tin hat & take cover….. :smt070 -
I've just dug out Duncans fabulous book (In that number) & our man, Mr Clunie first pops up in the 75-76 team photo, but has disappeared by the 78-79 photo. He may have been around then, but there are no coaches, or any back-room staff in that particular photo.

Jim Clunie, I think he was a physio.

Same happened to me when my lad was about 6. We were playing Newcastle in an evening game, he slept from just before half-time 'till about 10 mins into 2nd half. People around thought it very funny. From then on took plenty of brightly coloured sweets - it keeps 'em awake (wired) and fired up.
-
Defo take him. Start him now & hopefully he will see a few wins and won't be so easily swayed by the chelski/manure gloryboys he is inevitably surrounded by at school. My kids started going on & off at about 4-5 years. I took my eldest to the cup final in '03 when he was 6, it was the first time he'd seen saints loose, he cried, mind you so did I! . We are all season ticket holders now. We sit in the 'old' family centre in the corner of the kingsland/chapel, it's ideal for the kids, as they can go to the loo unaccompanied as they can't get lost easily or wander to far away as the concorse os entirely enclosed. And remeber to take plenty of sweets. My personal favourite is the Haribo jelly things.

Something I always wondered about The Dell

That's what I was thinking as I read through the thread, wasn't there another outlet in Hanover Buildings, somewhere near the old HMV Store, now the Bella Italia restaurant? -
Looking at that lot, I can see shades of myself in my younger, more athletic days. :smt102 The smiley thing was my usual reaction after something like these happened.

From where I was sat, (family centre in the corner of the Kingsland & Chapel) I thought the first was stonewall. As for the second, like many others, I was wondering what the hell the lino was flagging for, when he put it across his chest I still couldn't believe it until I saw the ref point to the spot. It's curious that no-one, players or fans were appealing for it though, usually you get a chorus of 'HANDBALL' ringing out from the stands at the merest hint of dodgy play. I've yet to see it on telly, as I fell asleep, only to wake-up 10 minutes after the show had finished and stagger off to bed........ well it had been a long day!

We went a few years ago, I booked everything separately on-line, flight from Soton, hotel & park tickets all for under a grand for 4 of us. We used the Explorer hotel, it’s ideal for kids, just a little way from the park so cheaper than the hotels right by the gate, it is also first on the shuttle-bus route (free), so you are virtually guaranteed a seat. We went in the May half-term, the parks were relatively empty, mostly British families at that time of year, and the longest we queued was 20 minutes, (we took maximum advantage of the fast-track queuing system & it worked really well). One more tip, make the effort to get out of bed and get to the park early, for the first hour-or-so we didn’t queue at all.
-
What infuriates me the most is a player not getting to the by-line and crossing from 18-20 yards out. When I did footy, in the dim & distant past, the wingers were encouraged to get to the by-line & pull the ball back with pace so the centre-forward (who was invariably at the back post area) could deliver a bullet-like header into the bottom corner away from the keeper. If you cross fromt he edge of the penalty area, the centre-forward needs to add power and direction.

I posted this elsewhere earlier, I thought I'd move it to the right place now:
