  1. It would seem the mobile phone texting generation have very little to say about their own era. So far it has been limited to "That's when I started". Informative and riveting, or what? I can't wait for the Facebook generation to get started on the first decade of the millenium.
  2. Not as special as getting an even fatter signing on fee. Players who don't make the most of the earning opportunities that come their way risk missing out on future security because (as Lalana knows only too well) an injury is always just around the corner. A bird in the hand...
  3. Swap you for Pulis in that case.
  4. It was all the developments surrounding the stadium that scotched Stonham last time. I doubt the Councils have changed their stances (strategic gap between Southampton/Eastleigh, potential traffic chaos preventing non-football traffic getting on/off the motorway, delay getting to the airport parking if you are flying, effect on getting to/from/parking at Parkway station, yet more out of town shopping, Eastleigh has just opened its own multiplex, bowling, spent loads on the Point, Southampton want to develop the "cultural centre" around Guildhall square so won't want competition to that, etc, etc.). I think Cortese will have his work cut out there. And........would he be averse to joining poopy and saints together and developing near Fareham? Or am I forgetting that he "loves us" too much for that?
  5. Like The Rest Of The World had nothing to do with the demise of empires? It was Britain and only Britain (whether Labour or not) that determined what most of the world became? I think you'll find that the peoples of the "Empire" had some say in it. Never heard of Ghandi, Nehru, et al? Is cvnt your favourite word? Glad to see you Empire wallahs uphold the highest of standards.
  6. Adkins is walking the walk, then.
  7. Thank you Simon Cowell.
  8. Absolutely. Can anyone really remember good old Ted Bates constantly commenting? I suppose someone like him would not have fitted into todays media-driven world that wants to trivialise everything. And if you try to trivialise something that in reality starts out as pretty trivial, is it any surprise what we end up with? It's the X Facor/Britains Got Talent/Big Brother world we live in.
  9. Yes, he had an effect on me that was even better than colonic irrigation.
  10. I think I'm saying that if Saints professional footballers want to stay fit and help the team to promotion they might be best advised to stay away from known trouble spots, so they can actively avoid getting involved, getting provoked or otherwise being drawn into this kind of thing. And perhaps when they do go out, not to behave in such a way that other quite normal people think they act like complete kn*bs.
  11. Why assume it was the guy who was hit was the only gobby t**t? My lad's friends fom his work were there and their comments have ben somewhat less than glowing about Mr. Barnard's part in this. But it all is yet to be proven. Someone got hit with a bottle after "comments" had been exchanged between a couple of Billy Big Noises. We know Mr Barnard was left with a badly injured hand. We know Saints have been struggling for a forwards recently. We know Saints have been struggling for form and points. We all know Mr B really shouldn't have been there and should be doing his his utmost to keep out of trouble and keep fit to play. He cost us £175k. Someone might be prepared to write that off, bearing in mind the high business and ethical principles that the management claim to posess.
  12. ha Ha. Pot and Kettle there, methinks.
  13. Really? Few have been. Go back 40 years most were keeping prices rock bottom, paying wages that maybe were 2 or 3 times a decent wage paid to a working man, and making a profit to distribute to "shareholders" was against the rules. Since then it's been a progressive throwing of money at players paid huge multples of the average wage, with clubs hugely in debt, income just about covering the interest payments. Neither period is what I'd describe as "clubs being run as businesses".
  14. How exactly? Battle over what? Do you know this, or is it opinion based on your observation that the players were fit?
  15. There's just something in the back of my mind telling me they aren't the same 9 points. I think you'll find they are actually 9 of the 10 that were deducted last year. I was going to make another point, but I am waiting for Adkins instructions, although like the players I'll probably ignore them.
  16. That's the other problem. Too much witty repartee.
  17. Do we all look the same to yo? Black Marks
  18. That's the trouble with this forum - constant name calling and atrocious spelling.
  19. But I think CBF has a point. It was The Administrator saying those things. Other Administrators seem to be far less keen to pronounce their patients dead. Isn't what our Administrator said exactly what you'd expect him to say AFTER a buyer was found? "Look at me, didn't I do well!" My reply would be "Look at Pompey's. He did well." (Unfortunately)
  20. What always made me smile about him was that whatever happened, whatever the ref said to him, his facial expression never ever changed. And I recall him playing for The Clump Inn (I think it was) after he retired from pro_football, and if ever there was encouragement to pass the ball very quickly it was when you saw Dennis heading in your direction.
  21. Evans learned in one not-so-easy lesson all about playing football with your head 'up' (or was it 'on'?). The collision was more Evans' fault IMO. Jake was anticipating the dropping ball, moving forwards already with his leg up when Evans turned, head down, and ran into it full pelt. Well, that's a Saints supporter's view of it, anyway. But the Ale House tag stuck and Brian O'Neil in particular was then subjected to a series of undeserved bookings and sendings offs, culminating in the "Astle Incident", Astle's fault for suddenly thinking he could play "foot"ball by selling a dummy while stood stationary on the touchline under very dim floodlights in the rain. What did O'Neil get, 8 week ban wasn't it? Oh sorry, ignore all the above which, like our current shirt, is from the Victorian era.
  22. See that's the problem with posters like you - you think there is only one way to do anything.
  23. I've worked with a lot of "I have a medium term business plan" types who must have had "attention deficit disorder" for the distinctly short-term interest they actually showed in making it happen. There's a difference between realising something or being made aware of it, and fully understanding what is required before their boredom sets in. I'm sure NC is bright, but it doesn't mean he's patient enough when things don't happen at his required breakneck speed. In my opinion he seems like someone who will suddenly cut his losses if progress isn't quick enough. On the Academy etc. front, I thought some posters on here were questioning how well its actually doing, the slowness of the tg work, and the lack of reserve matches so far.
  24. And Maradonna had it when his arm just flew up and out of joint and accidentally put the ball in the net over Shilton's head. Goal because it wasn't intentional. He hared back towards the halfway line so fast that air pressure just popped it straight back in. (Little known) FACT.
  25. The fact is there are fans, and there are people who watch football to savour atmosphere and to enjoy the reflected glory of watching a successful team. You only fill a ground when you satisfy both groups. It's no good telling the second group that they aren't real fans. Increasing revenue depends to a larger extent on satisfying the needs of group 2; lets face it group 1 the real fans, are more loyal and TBH their demands can more easily be ignored (and I would say NC understands that bit full well). The trouble at the moment is that group 2 can't yet bask in any reflected glory. NC might hope Adkins will do the trick without spending, and in this division I think he will do the business without spending a lot. But the group 2 problem will quicky come back and bite him if we don't do well in the higher division where costs will be significantly higher. That's really where he'll have to invest hard just to stand still... Maybe NC is begining to understand but not to like that scenario?
