The article is actually poor journalism and a rehash of an original by Sam Wallace in the Independent. Just one of a number of errors is to say that England wore Umbro kit from 1954 unbroken for only 10 years by Admiral, when Bukta shirts were worn in the early 60s. The author also thinks that France still wear adidas. So saying that only Blackburn, Huddersfield and Forest will be in Umbro next season is more likely a display of ignorance rather than inside knowledge. But we will have a new kit next season, who will make it is anyone's guess. My guess is Lotto due to the Swiss connection.

The best saints perfotmance i've ever witnessed
Kenilworthy replied to The Majestic Channon's topic in The Saints
During that game Steve Williams was running clear and was rugby tackled by Phil 'Muppet' Thompson. Nowadays it would be a nailed on red card, but he got away with a yellow for preventing a certain goal. Charlie George also scored a screamer not unlike his winner for Arsenal in the cup final. -
Got my 2. But what a shambles letting them be sold by the home club's website with no notice. Lucky I went on the OS just by chance. There are going to be some very disappointed people. Didn't the ticket office learn anything from the Brighton debacle? Also we don't get loyalty points.

Confirmation on loyalty points / Man City away tickets

Success - but even though I had registered previously to buy Liebherr tournament tickets my password had been reset -

Does the number increment downwards? I am still stuck on 348 after 10 minutes. -
You have to be of a certain age to remember Steve Zodiac, captain of Fireball XL5

Air Florida were only sponsors for 83-84. Draper took over as sponsor on the Keegan style kit for 84-85 and were sponsors for the Steve Zodiac style kit of 85-87.

I think that would be a great idea. It might even increase sales with people buying long and short sleeve versions.

We had all red shirts as a 3rd kit in the early 80s - worn at West Brom. QPR and in the FA Cup at Blackburn http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Articles/iconic-change-kits.html

Losing at West Brom and sending us down is just another Pompey myth. We didn't do what we needed to do anyway - it was Crystal Palace they actually relegated.

Complete closure will come for me when I see Southampton back in its rightful place on the opening BBC weather map instead of Portsmouth

I would like to point out pedantically that Isaac Watts wrote it originally as "Our God our help in ages past". John Wesley needlessly altered it to "O God..."

Order any cocktail. Drink it, enjoy it. And then walk away without paying for it.

According to the Radio Two sports presenter on the Chris Evans show 'Arry has been successful at every club he's managed'. That's what the media believe. That's all that counts.

148 miles round trip from Kenilworth to Marlow daily for past 12 years - my car has 320,000 on the clock. On a good day it can be an hour and 15 minutes. Usually an hour and a half, sometimes 3 hrs - I hate junctions 9 and 10 on the M40!

As for the ref calling it off, I remember away games at Leicester (c1986) called off at 20 minutes due to a monsoon at 0-0. Also, and more annoying, away to Forest due to fog in the 70's. Saints were winning 1or2-0 at the time after about 70minutes and Forest looked hopeless. By the timeof the rematch Forest had picked up form and beat us easily , 3-0 from memory. Leicester game was 83/84. Had we won it, and we were the form team at the time, we would have gone top. When it was played we lost 2-1, arguably the game being abandoned cost us the championship. The Forest game was in 76/77. We lead from the start with a Holmes goal but its abandoned just after half-time. That changed the whole course of football history. Forest won the replay 2-1. Without that win they wouldn't have got promoted, wouldn't have been champions in 78 and wouldn't have won the European Cup in 79 and 80.

Absolutely not! Debut versus Leicester in January 2001 - We win 1-0, Petrescu scores the winner Next game we beat Bradford 2-0 Then beat Middlesbrough 1-0 Then beat Manchester City 1-0, Petrescu scores the winner Then beat Everton 1-0 So in his first 5 games for us we win all 5 and Dan the Man scores the winner twice. I'll take that from any of our new signings. But of course after than run Hoddle departed and the whole side went to pot until the final two game and Gray and Strachan wouldn't seem to give him a chance.

Seeing what Idiakez did to us when playing for Derby I thought he could be the final piece in the midfield jigsaw. But although showing some glimpses of quality he was too slow and too often injured to make any real impact.

Jimmy Greaves was in the Saints team as a guest.

Why does there need to be two football shows one after the other anyway? Match of the Day should do what its title suggests and cover all football in one programme rather than just the Premier League. I too like Claridge, i have always seen him as the acceptable face of Pompey. But the pundits are a watse of time anyway. I am sure millions like me record both shows and fast forward through the post match interviews and analysis.

>It will never happen in England as the Football League, the Premier League and the Police don't want it to happen. They have spent huge amounts of time and effort in turning the game for the lad culture of the 70s and 80s to the family friendly activity it is today and there isn't a chance in hell that they would risk harming a multi-billion pound business with something that could lead to a reversal in this I understand what you say about current attitudes in England to standing. However, if the authorities take a more considered view they might recognise that what we have now is far from being familiy-friendly if you go to away games. Because in many grounds you simply do not have the option of sitting down. They have got it right at Sheffield Wednesday. The stewards send people who want to sit to the front of the stand and people who want to stand go to the back - everyone's happy. That is very unusual though. I always used to prefer to stand on the terraces at away games back in the 80s. But since I have been taking two young children to away games the value of being able to sit if you want to is clear.

Another Rennie incident. Away at Plymouth a couple of season ago. Rasiak goes clear and is rounding the keeper who grabs his ankles - I had a perfect view as Rasiak was running straight towards us and we were no more than 10 yards away. Rennie ddin't just not award the clearest penalty you will ever see, he sprinted from the halfway line to show a yellow card for diving. Arsenal away in 2004. We are 2-1 up in the dying minutes when Kenton runs clear on goal. He is chopped down by a defender (Cygan I think) red card and penalty to seal the win for us. The referee sees nothing and keeps play going until Arsenal equalise and then adds even more time to try to get them a winner. Spurs away 1987. We are playing really well and drawing 1-1 when in the last minute Tim Flowers makes a brilliant save at the feet of Clive Allen. The only person in the ground who thinks its a penalty is the referee and we lose 2-1. League Cup away at Old Trafford (1990 or 91?) Jimmy Case bumps into Bryan Robson on the halfway line, its hardly a yellow card but out comes the red card. There have been plenty of equally bad decisions against us for us not to bother when we get something in our favour.

Expansion of The Dell. Was it ever possible??
Kenilworthy replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
During the demolition I went down to the Dell site and when cleared it looked pretty large. So we could have done something if we were able to shut down and move somewhere else for a couple of seasons, like Celtic did. But that was never feasible. And would a complete new ground on the site still have been the Dell? My Dad has always talked about plans going back to the 50s to rurn the pitch through 90 degrees. Apparently Charlie Knott, the speedway promoter, was keen on a joint stadium development at one time but never got anywhere with it. -
Ian Marshall. Complete and utter rubbish with Oldham and Ipswich, but did well against us.
