Agreed with all the above. My only concern would be that many of the comments must be from posters who have not seen James, Surman, Mills and Hatch play. Or they thought that the previous numerous full backs were acceptable when clearly the standard of our backs has been very poor for some time. Even allowing for Bale being a left side mid field and not a left back. Things will get better as our current crop show there here to stay.

If he has been playing that well in Latvia, I am surprised Gary Johnson at Bristol City did not go in for him, as he usually has his finger on the pulse as far as Latvia goes. He was good in the Saints younger teams but could not get a work permit and originally went to Eire to play. Interest to see if he still has got the goal touch, but not against us.
