Villa 0 v Saints 1 post match chat & MotM

Much needed win. However showed our lack of options again 2nd half with us reduced to hanging on once again in the last 20 minutes. We have been poor in the last 20 minutes for weeks now and its something we need to change. -
What a truly shocking bunch of subs..

would you take a point at Villa if offered now?
Edmonton Saint replied to whelk's topic in The Saints
If we don't win this one, then serious questions need to be asked of Adkins. A few brave souls here have dared to raise doubts over the last few weeks and have been shot down. Typical Adkins this week " Beware of Villa they will be like a wounded Animal after the Bradford result" Well correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we lose our last home game 5-1, so shouldn't we also be looking for reaction? Doubt it though as its only a cup game so didn't matter.. HYPOCRISY. -
Will we have signed a centre half by Saturday?
Edmonton Saint replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
So its Saturday and surprise, surprise we haven't signed a centre half. Lose against Villa today and this lack of dynamic action will be totally unacceptable. The Transfer window is now 12 days old and the relegation timebomb is ticking ever closer... -
1. Attracting players to the club. Di Matteo is a champions league winning manager, Adkins is a championship runner up. 2. Working with Cortese. The fact Di Matteo is Italian has to be an advantage here. 3. Tactical decisions- Adkins has had some baffling decisions this season and the Gazzaniga experiment is one we haven't recovered from. Also Adkins has suffered from negativity when making substitutions to a crippling effect in recent weeks, He seems happier settling for a draw, rather than showing some balls and going for a win. The decision to bring on Richardson and Fox at Stoke, whilst we were winning against 10 men baffled me. Also there has been similar incidents all season, when I for one have been WTF with some of Adkins decisions.
-
I would be more than happy with Di Matteo if the rumours are to be believed.
-
Great news. Shaw is a real talent.

As I have stated on here previously, this expensively assembled squad should be doing better than being out of the relegation places on only goal difference. If we lose against a woeful Villa team on Saturday, then Adkins has to leave. No more excuses. If we are to have a new manager in place, it has to be this month, so they can still use whats left of the transfer window.

I too think it's time for us to pursue other options now. Rickie has been a fantastic servant, but there is no time for sentimentality in the modern game. We need a younger, quicker model and time will tell whether that is Rodriguez, Mayuka or A.N. Other..

Is our current side being competitive in premier league?
Edmonton Saint replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
The four points that Gazzaniga cost us against Norwich and Swansea will be the nail that slams shut our relegation coffin I am afraid. They were points we couldn't afford to drop, but drop them we did. Adkins inability to sort out the goalkeeping situation last summer will be our death knell which will lead to our eventual demise. -
At the end of the day Alpine is entitled to his opinion as everyone else here is entitled to theirs. Just because a few of us don't think everything is rosy in the S.F.C garden, doesn't mean we should be banned for daring to express that fact.
-
Because I actually believe that the squad is capable of doing much better than it is at present, and due to some bizarre and frankly intangible decisions by our management team we find ourselves just outside the relegation zone. It's very frustrating when you look back at the number of points we have just thrown away this season from extremely good positions.
-
I go to matches to see Saints win. Therefore I am not minded to be be satisfied or ecstatic, when consistently through our manager and players shortcomings we repeatedly throw winning positions away.
-
Drawing away at Stoke when 3-1 up, managing a draw against Fulham who were woeful on the day due to crap keeping by Kelvin and not seeing off Arsenal when they were probably the poorest they had been all season. So yes excuse me If I don't see that as progress. 3 draws is equivalent to ONE win, I wish Adkins would show some more guts and not be satisfied with mediocrity.
-
Good run we have been on? I make that 1 win in 8 games and that against a very poor Reading team. Relegation form in my opinion.
-
And lets not forget Swansea, Norwich and to a certain extent Arsenal the other night. Had chances to win them all.

Saints vs Chelsea Match & Reactions Thread
Edmonton Saint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Not an overreaction IMO, I saw very little out there today. Whole team seemed happy to back off and let Chelsea have full reign of St. Marys. There was very little there to get the crowd excited, No crunching tackles, no mazy runs, no sweeping cross field passes.. Nothing. We seemed devoid of ideas today and that's why I am extremely worried ,especially given our recent league form when we have managed to grab draws from the jaws of victory.. -
