Its hard to rate transfer windows until you've played a good chunk of the season and seen how everyone's new signings actually work. We are really good on here at hailing some other team as having a great transfer window, showing ambition and buying really good players only to watch said team have a **** poor season. We've also signed players that looked good at the time but after a while you realise just aren't up to it (hello Boufal). So I'm just going to wait and see how things pan out.
-
I'm going just want to see the new guys and get a feel for how we are going to play result is meaningless but I do want to see a decent performance and hints of a more solid back line.
-
Outside the top six it's a bun fight someone will have a good start build up a bit of momentum and team spirit and hang on to be this years "best of the rest". Everyone else will flirt with relegation and the bottom 14 sides won't be separated by a lot of points . The gap between 6th and 7th will mostly likely be a big one though.

I don't disagree but I haven't seen anyone linked with us that has a recent goal record any better than what we have. Oddly affordable prolific PL strikers seem to be in short supply.
-
So? That just proves how ****ed up the transfer market has become doesn't it? Everton just played 35+million for 5 goal a season Richarlison...the whole thing I getting beyond ridiculous.
-
I get your point but why are you including Mane as a striker but not Redmond when they play a similar position. Tadic could be included in the comparison to. The distinction between out and out strikers and AMs playing in a front three is pretty blurry these days.

Wouldn't mind the pre game music being Thunderstruck by AC/ DC maybe with a montage of Lambert penalties on the big screen

Player transfers are mad who is going to pay them 27m for a player they don't even want and isn't a regular. I don't normally feel sorry for millionaire footballers but if he wants to play regularly leaving Liverpool is his only option and they are scuppering that with a totally unrealistic price tag leaving the lad stuck in limbo.

Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business

Poch saying Spurs may not sign anyone this summer and he is unhappy about the transfer window closing when the season starts. I suppose you could argue if the don't sell anyone the team is pretty good anyway but it would still be pretty surprising if Spurs signed no new faces this summer. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6901900/mauricio-pochettino-tottenham-no-signings-premier-league-transfer-window/ -
I don't think we will see any more incomings we went early in the transfer window to get our targets. Now I think we are just looking to off load unwanted players. I think everyone agrees there is more work to be done on the squad but sorting out every issue in one summer just isn't a realistic prospect imo.

It's one of Glasgow's weird little things for some reason he includes all of Long's international, cup and pre-season friendly goals that season and tries to pass them of his league goal tally..

fair enough last season was pretty good then -
OK I could imagine the reaction from you two if we had signed Glenn Murray
-
I don't know how good a striker people think we are going to get. Last season outside the top six only one player scored more than 12 goals and that was Vardy. After that the next best goal scorer outside the top six was Glenn Murray with 12 goals. The only way a team outside the big six gets a prolific goal scorer these days is with a healthy dose of luck.

A bit on the sack race Jose an early favorite to get the elbow along with Warnock, Garcia and err Hughes... https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/premier-league-sack-race-odds-13003034

I imagine the knee operation might have something to do with it. -
I was being tongue I cheek. Though I wasn't aware I,was against PL rules I thought most clubs just forbid it.

So it appears Burnley have enquired about Forster. I assume its only a loan but if I was Saints I'd let him play against us. If Burnley had Forster in goal I reckon our chances of winning would shoot right up...
-
I assume that would be a loan. Would this be the first time a team allowed a loan player to play against them.....

The Mag have put up a net spend table up mostly talking about Newcastle obviously but the table makes interesting reading. Saints are a bit skewed because the VVD money from Jan doesn't get counted this summer. Still interesting to see what teams have (or haven't) spent. https://www.themag.co.uk/2018/07/league-table-of-all-20-clubs-premier-league-transfers-so-far-painful-viewing-for-newcastle-united-fans/

Considering how many points Forster cost us last season I don't think removing him from the team altogether is a bad move and money well spent.
-
Its pretty odd given Hughes looks likely to go with 3 at the back with wingbacks that we haven't got a proper second right back in. If Cedric gets injuried its going to really screw the system trying to get by with some player playing out of position trying to fill in.

What are we going to need pace for? no way are Burnley going to set up playing a high line or leaving space in behind for us to exploit there will be a back four protected by a bank of five sitting deep. Saints will have next to no counter attacking opportunities. Most likely scenario is us camped out in their half trying to break them down while Burnley look for a break or a set piece to nick a goal. Given that Austin would be the most suited of our strikers for this game. Armstrong apparently has a good long range shot on him which would also be beneficial in a game like this. Some people said in the pre-season games that Mo is very much like Tadic so he could be the key to breaking Burnley down though he hasn't played a lot of pre-season. I really don't so a reason for playing three at the back for this game given the way it will, most likely, play out. I really don't think we will need 3 CBs to stop one isolated Burnley striker feeding off scraps.
