  1. We are woefully short at the back. I think we were all expecting first choice defenders to be brought in bad Jos, Fonte and Fox drop to the bench. I was also expecting the same thing with Kelvin. But all 4 of them will be in a starring back 5. Fox cannott defend at this level - he drifts in to the edge of the box giving time and space to the attacker time after time. Seabourne is probably still recovering from his 'accident' and should probably go out on loan to a League 1 club. Yoshida will be the sub from the bench - but is he as good as we seem to think he is? The team we signed him from had one of the worst defensive records in the Eredevise. I've not been impressed by Steven Davis so far - he looks to lightweight - and lets not forget he joined from Rangers who played at a level equivalent to League 1. He may have been player of the season but I'm not sure it counts if it's in Scotland - remember Neil McCann and Rudi Skacel anyone!? Lambert doesn't have the movement or pace to play as the main striker or centre forward in a 4-3-3 or anywhere in the front 3 for that matter. And Mayuka will be off to the African Nations Cup in the New Year so we could lose him for 2 months. And apart from a wonder goal we havent really seen enough from Tandanari to know if he's good enough.
  2. Do people really think Pucheon, De Ridder and Guly are Premier League quality? Sure they can step up for the odd game - but not a season. Hopefully that's all we will need. Have to say I am more worried about our defence than attacking options. And I'm not convinced by Steven Davis either - looks to light weight for the Premier League to me. So playing the seemingly preferred 4-3-3 system our first choice 11 will probably look something like this: Ramirez. Lambert. Mayuka. Lallana. Morgan. Cork. Fox. Hooiveld. Fonte/Yoshida. Clyne. Davis. Is that going to be good enough to keep us up if we don't have any injuries?
  3. Sorry I think we needed a bit more quality and a bit more quantity. Chuffed with Ramirez but he's only one player. Not sure we have the strength in depth we need to stay up. We still lack pace, a decent left back, wingers and 2 first choice centre backs of premier league quality. I think we could have done with a quality keeper as well. Kelvin does have his weaknesses - distribution for one - and was a disaster at this level before. Also I'm not sure we have the players to play this 4-3-3 system we seem keen on - or much strength beyond first 11.
  4. We probably needed to spend £40M or £50M to stay up though! I always used to say clubs needed to spend £50M to bridge the gap between the Chapionship and the Premier League and I don't think I've changed my mind! It's not like promotion from League One where we'd already brought in Championship quality players.
  5. They probably can't afford their wages and a transfer fee - I'm guessing their wages went up like Dickson 's after we were promoted
  6. I thought their fans hated him! Poor sod!
  7. Hammond to Brighton - poor sod!
  8. Still need a centreback, winger and a leftback
  9. You have to feel sorry for players like Sharp, Harding, Barnard and Hammond who worked hard to get us to the premiership - and who have probably dreamed of playing at this level - and are on their way before the story has really even started without even getting a chance or a moment to enjoy it. Do I think any of those 4 are really Premiership quality? No not really but I still feel a bit sorry for them. Anyway I wish all 4 of them all the best and thank them for doing their bit for Saints - they all put their shifts in when it mattered!
  10. Unless we sign a left back who can defend and another centre back with premier league class we are going to leak goals at the back
  11. That's for next summer!
  12. We still need a left back, a winger and another centre back
  13. Rebel

    Emile Heskey

    please no!
  14. We hope!
  15. Benayoun will be on massive wages in relation to his ability - no thanks!
  16. I think most of them will go out on loan rather than be transferred out - gives us a plan B for next season if plan A doesn't work this season and we get relegated!
  17. They won't sell Ince - we should go after Zaha from Palace instead if we want pace and potential
  18. DanKerins has just retweeted 'Barcelona centreback incoming' so hopefully there is some truth in the Fontas rumour! If we sign Fontas, Ramirez and Biglia I may have to take something to calm myself down!
  19. Something along the lines of: Gaston! Gaston! ....... ....... As in 'Marchons! Marchons!' to the tune of La Marseilles - French national anthem chorus! That's only if we actually sign him though!!!
  20. We should just go and sign Mateo Mussachio from Villareal - supposedly he's a great player, he's the right age and Villareal need the money as they just got relegated.
  21. I think it was more a case of we had no one else to start on the left with Lallana in midfield. Sorry I'm going to bite! He was brought to To the club to give Lambert some competition for the role of centre forward or second striker, to give us some strength in depth in that position and eventually succeed Lambert Do you not remember the cries of despair if Lambert missed a game as we has no fallback option on the bench!
  22. I think he frustrates people because he shows flashes of brilliance but just isn't consistent enough. On Saturday he slowed the game down an awful lot and too often held the ball and then made a pass backwards when the through ball or attacking run was on - that's probably why he had the most completed passes. Stats in themselves don't actually tell you that much about s game. He's also made a lot of tackles because he was caugh on the ball an awful lot.
  23. The 2 best young Saints players I saw were Shearer and Le Tissier. David Hughes and Paul Tisdale we're the 2 great losses too injury - both could have really been great players. Used to bump into David Hughes out and about - he used to DJ at the Rhino occassionslly I think - and he was always down to earth. A genuinely nice guy. The 2 best Saints players I saw were Kevin Keegan and David Armstrong.
  24. Ricky just isn't mobile or fast enough to lead the line in a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3 formation. We've got the best out of him over the last 3 seasons when their is someone in front of him to lead the line and creat space behind them for Ricky - so he can drop deep or go wide to pick up the ball and create the play or attack the space and go for goal. Once we've signed someone to play on the left Rodriguez will probably move to the middle if we are going to play 4-3-3 or 4-5-1. Ricky will then probably be a sub or impact player from the bench if we switch to the diamond or 4-3-2-1 during the game. I can see him starting if we play 4-2-3-1 though.
  25. The ticket prices are too high for one thing. And it's not as easy to buy matchday tickets as it shoul be for another. And people are forgetting it was Wigan - Probably the smallest draw in the Premier League for opposition fans and a club with probably the smallest away support. They brought less than 1000 fans and returned a load of tickets. It was the bank holiday weekend and a lot of people were away for the weekend or are still away oh holiday - including season ticket holders - it happens every season. Added to that some people would have bought tickets for Man Utd and Wigan but not bothered with the Wigan game for a number of reasons - they are on holiday, it was Wigan - something like that!
