Too much anti-Redknapp stuff - seemed to boost their fans and players - and not enough pro-Saints stuff. It played a part.

I'm not convinced we have enough strength in depth to be honest. Luke Shaw is now our first choice left back - but he's too young at 17 to be playing every week. If he does he will burn out like so many before him. And we can't play Fox as he is a liability at this level - his positioning is just terrible. Hooiveld also looks to be out of his depth. I hope they both prove me wrong but so far they haven't. We've also got no cover for Cork and Morgan if one gets injured - or banned - and we need to play 2 holding midfielders as our defence judt isnt good enough - and we all know how great our run of form was at the start of the season without Cork in the team.
-
It's just the defence that worries me
-
With Fox and Hooiveld in defence we are always glint to conceded goals at this level - they are a mistake waiting to happen. I've never seen a full back leave so much space as Fox - it makes it easy for the opposition to get in behind us and puts so much pressure intone centre backs Hooiveld will crack every time. I'm also still to be convinced that Gaston wasn't anything more than a vanity signing at £12 million. Think how much better we'd be with Michu who cost £2 million and two £5 million defenders in the team.

I'm hoping there's gong to be a left back coming in and one going out - but I have a horrible feeling I'm gong to be disappointed! We still need a first choice left back and a right winger just like we did in the summer. And probably another centre back as well

Tandanari, Mayuka and Yoshida were all bought primarily for commercial reasons - to open up markets in Africa and Japan for sponsorship deals and generate revenue.

How long before we all calm down on this forum

Don't be surprised if Coutinho is brought in...
Rebel replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Oh yes there is! Most definitely there is!! Just to let you know Mr Cortese I am expecting Coutinho, Zarate and Biglia to be delivered in the next week just to sweeten the bitter taste I'd Adkins sacking. Not too mention another centreback!!!! And why do I have the feeling we will be playing 4-3-3 from now on - and that we'll see a few players leaving before the end of the month - particularly those that don't fit in with that set up. To be honest I am half expecting to see players like Puncheon and Lambert shipped out as they don't fit this system. If we'd stayed up and made this change in the summer it would have made a lot more sense - still would have felt bad about Adkins leaving - but I could understand the thinking behind it. Right now I just don't get it! at all!! -
40 years old - so not got loads of experience - not a great track record on top of that - new to English Football - probably doesn't speak English Also suggests that someone other than the manager is looking after transfers Difficult game on Monday at home to Everton - only 3 days away - a very English club - doesn't bode we'll for a good start I have a feeling disagreements over tactics and transfers have played a part in this. I fully expect to see players like Zarate to come in to the club before the end of January and a number of existing players move on - and I think there will be some unwelcome surprises in that as well

What would you do with the sandworks opposite St Marys?
Rebel replied to Tom8558's topic in The Saints
It will be a hotel which can host conferences and events and be used for corporate hospitality on match days - and probably a bunch of bars, restaurants and stuff like that. -
Well we will never know if we don't ask - plus it seems to be fairly common knowledge Upson wants out of Stoke and Dawson was in a similar position at Spurs in the Summer as AVB wanted to move him on. There was also a rumour Twente were interested in Hooiveld - but like most posts on here its based largely on assumptions, rumours and conjecture.
-
We should swap Hooiveld and De Ridder and some cash for Douglas from Twente. Astori and Douglas would give us a real chance of staying up - and who knows they might both give us a season in the Championship if we went down - and certainly a great chance of coming back up. Alternatively if we don't want to spend that kind of money we should get Upson and Dawson in on loan for the rest of this season. Zaha at Palace would be great - but I think we missed our moment for him in the summer. It's the same with Ince as well now I expect. Matt Phillips would be my realistic choice now for some pace and width up front - and he's more likely to stay with us if we go down. Olsson from Blackburn for the left back slot would also be on my list. And Trippier from Burnley for the right back slot. To be honest I think we need to keep one eye on signing players that would stay with us - and give us at least one season in the Championship - and a great chance of getting promoted again - if we did go down.
-
I thought Fraser was carrying an injury - but yes I think we probably do need another right back. Kieran Trippier at Burnley would do for me. Worryingly it adds another player to the long list of players we need. We now need: - a first choice goal keeper - a first choice left back - a right back - a defensive midfielder - a right winger - and 2 centre backs We have got quite a few players to get rid of now though - including: De Ridder Hooiveld Fox Richardson Butterfield Dickson Seaborne Forte Chaplow? Boruc? Barnard I would loan out Chaplow, Fraser, Fox and Barnard for now though just in case we need them next season. I would also send Tandanari, Martin and Mayuka out on loan to the Championship to get some game time and some more experience.
-
Lambert just isn't mobile enough to lead the line - he needs someone likec Rodriguez to play in front of him and run the channels - and get the best out of him At times today his lack of pace really cost us today - plus he ran out of steam long before the 90 mins was up He's really best as a second striker
-
It's not so much that we are better side without Lallana - we are just a more balanced side when only play 2 out of the attacking 3 of Ramirez, Lallana and Puncheon. Just like we are a much better side when we play Lambert behind another striker - and let him drop deep and go wide to collect the ball and link the play - and attack the fullbacks at the back post.
-
Jay Rod has to lead the line - without Lallana, Puncheon and Ramirez on the pitch to run at the opposition Lambert just isn't mobile enough to find the time and space he needs - plus Hangeland will dominate him in the air.
-
Warnock is chasing Lambert according to the Daily Mail now they have some money - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2252323/Leeds-target-Southampton-striker-Rickie-Lambert.html I can't really see him leaving Saints this season - and would he take a step down to the Championship to play for Leeds now he's made it to the Premier League. But keeping in mins he's just turned 30 if we got a great offer for him would you sell him - and how much would it take?
-
I'm still not sure why we bought Mayuka - we needed wingers not another striker - and a,though he has pace he didn't look like much of either yesterday. I think we are going to need to do a bit of wheeling and dealing in January so yes I do hope he has a good ACON so we can sell him at a profit - either in January or the Summer as I don't think we are going to see much more out of him at St Mary's. He was the major reason the team looked flat yesterday - they were creating chances and making the play to start off with but every single one broke down when he failed to get the ball or mis-controlled it. Sometimes football does come down to having your one chance and taking it - and yesterday he really didn't take it.
-
The Sunderland fans didn't make much of a noise until they scored! Then they were loud-but it's easy when your winning! Your mate sounds like he was just trying to p*ss you off - you should just dump him! Also sounds a bit like jealous - have you see Sunderland - it's right down there with Middlesbrough. As for the home fans - we started OK but went flat just like the team - the two things are normally very connected
-
Terrible team selection and terrible substitutions. Mayuka was terrible - how is he the 85 best player in the world? He seemed to be on a completely different wavelength to the rest of the team - and unable to control the ball most of the time. Lambert, Puncheon and Ramirez also had bad games - did Lambert win anything in the air today? Puncheon ran down far too many blind alleys and Ramirez just kept on losing the ball. Clyne made a lot of mistakes today as well. The subs were awful - Guly and De Ridder are just not Premier League players. De Ridder does one brilliant thing every time he plays but is truly awful apart from that - he'd be a lot better if he was just averagely good every game! I don't understand why we didn't start with Rodriguez -and even more so why we didn't replace Mayuka with Rodriguez after 15 mins - we needed someone to lead the line - and compete in the air.
-
Well that was a terrible mistake today - let's hope he had a good ACON so we can flog him at a profit!
-
Guided Missile my arse - more a point and shoot rocket propelled grenade! The damage was done by those people who said they'd back Wilde with money - but when it came to it they wouldn't put their hands in their pockets! And Lowe who spent the money that would have kept us up on large executive salaries, bonuses and dividends - not too mention builders and plumbers fees for doing up the training ground! And SISA because they were upset someone else tried to do something! But going into administration was the best thing that ever happened to Saints - because it was the only way we were going to get rid of Lowe and his cronie shareholders
