  1. Callejon from Real Madrid as he played under him at Espanyol Maybe one or two of the youngsters from Barcelona on loan as he's supposed to have a great relationship with Barca - players like Isaac Cuenca, Sergi Roberto, Marc Muniesa and Thiago Alcantara
  2. Oh for Saints sake give it up! Neither Sturrock or Hoddle were the answer - and anyway the problem was Rupert Lowe!
  3. Nope QPR were a bad team - but they sat back, defended deep and came for the draw - and snatched a win. Without Samba' size and Remy's pace they would have lost. We lost because plan A - pressing against a team set up like that doesn't work - and we didn't seem to have any plan B. we couldnt play through them so just resorted to playing the long ball to Rickie - but Samba had him in his pocket. It was obvious after 15 mins that we needed to change something - bring Jay Rod on and play him up front with Rickie in the whole and Gaston in a free role. That and tell our full backs to sit back and defend the long balls out from QPR. It didn't help that Fox can't defend! We really missed the left back and pacy right winger we should have bought in January as well though.
  4. We need to change the way we play a bit - or at least have a plan B. That and more of the played need to b on top of their game. I'd start with 4-3-3 and the pressing game - but play Foren at left back as supposedly he's played there before and tell our full backs to stay back and defend a little bit more so that we have always got three at the back: Boruc Clyne Fonte Yoshida. Forren Cork. Morgan Davis Ramirez. Rodriguez Lambert If that's not working we should switch to a 4-2-3-1 with Lambert in the hole behind Rodriguez - swap Puncheon for Davis and play Gaston and Puncheon out wide. But hopefully Norwich will actually come out and attack us so we actually have something to press!
  5. Barcelona don't counter attack - they press just like Espanyol did - and like we are trying to do. They take it to an extreme though - the full backs play like wingers and the centre backs push up into the opposition half. Real Madrid defended deep, crowded them out in the box and the counter attacked with the long ball to Ronaldo or Ozil and pace. It's why they lost 3-1 at the Nou Camp on Tuesday. Barcelona didn't seem to have a plan B either.
  6. Lets not run away with ourselves - Norwich away and Liverpool at home our both games we could win. Liverpool are not going to sit back and defend against us for a start. And Norwich are having a bad run of form and the pressure will be on them next week.
  7. Should have started with the same team that beat Man City. Lambert, Morgan, Lallana and Puncheon all had bad games. Fox was his usual terrible self in defence. Samba had Rickie in his pocket yet we kept playing it to him in the air. Rodriguez pace and drive made a real difference when he came on. He and Ramirez looked a real threat until we took a Gaston off. Pressing 4-3-3 football is not going to work against a team that sit back and play long ball on the break - there is nothing to press! And they packed the box so we couldn't get through them. We desperately missed a first choice left back and a pacey right winger today - 2 players most fans knew we desperately needed in January - thanks for not signing them Mr Cortese! Lets hope we start with Rodriguez and Ramirez out wide and Davis in the whole against Norwich - oh and Forren at left back
  8. Too much anti-Redknapp stuff - seemed to boost their fans and players - and not enough pro-Saints stuff. It played a part.
  9. I'm not convinced we have enough strength in depth to be honest. Luke Shaw is now our first choice left back - but he's too young at 17 to be playing every week. If he does he will burn out like so many before him. And we can't play Fox as he is a liability at this level - his positioning is just terrible. Hooiveld also looks to be out of his depth. I hope they both prove me wrong but so far they haven't. We've also got no cover for Cork and Morgan if one gets injured - or banned - and we need to play 2 holding midfielders as our defence judt isnt good enough - and we all know how great our run of form was at the start of the season without Cork in the team.
  10. It's just the defence that worries me
  11. With Fox and Hooiveld in defence we are always glint to conceded goals at this level - they are a mistake waiting to happen. I've never seen a full back leave so much space as Fox - it makes it easy for the opposition to get in behind us and puts so much pressure intone centre backs Hooiveld will crack every time. I'm also still to be convinced that Gaston wasn't anything more than a vanity signing at £12 million. Think how much better we'd be with Michu who cost £2 million and two £5 million defenders in the team.
  12. I'm hoping there's gong to be a left back coming in and one going out - but I have a horrible feeling I'm gong to be disappointed! We still need a first choice left back and a right winger just like we did in the summer. And probably another centre back as well
  13. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2270247/Our-parents-pay-tax-entitled-benefits-Couple-living-17k-handouts-say-working-minimum-wage-unfair.html Typical Skates? Discuss!
  14. Tandanari, Mayuka and Yoshida were all bought primarily for commercial reasons - to open up markets in Africa and Japan for sponsorship deals and generate revenue.
  15. There are some right idiots on here it has to be said!
  16. No it's that simple
  17. Oh yes there is! Most definitely there is!! Just to let you know Mr Cortese I am expecting Coutinho, Zarate and Biglia to be delivered in the next week just to sweeten the bitter taste I'd Adkins sacking. Not too mention another centreback!!!! And why do I have the feeling we will be playing 4-3-3 from now on - and that we'll see a few players leaving before the end of the month - particularly those that don't fit in with that set up. To be honest I am half expecting to see players like Puncheon and Lambert shipped out as they don't fit this system. If we'd stayed up and made this change in the summer it would have made a lot more sense - still would have felt bad about Adkins leaving - but I could understand the thinking behind it. Right now I just don't get it! at all!!
  18. 40 years old - so not got loads of experience - not a great track record on top of that - new to English Football - probably doesn't speak English Also suggests that someone other than the manager is looking after transfers Difficult game on Monday at home to Everton - only 3 days away - a very English club - doesn't bode we'll for a good start I have a feeling disagreements over tactics and transfers have played a part in this. I fully expect to see players like Zarate to come in to the club before the end of January and a number of existing players move on - and I think there will be some unwelcome surprises in that as well
  19. It will be a hotel which can host conferences and events and be used for corporate hospitality on match days - and probably a bunch of bars, restaurants and stuff like that.
  20. Well we will never know if we don't ask - plus it seems to be fairly common knowledge Upson wants out of Stoke and Dawson was in a similar position at Spurs in the Summer as AVB wanted to move him on. There was also a rumour Twente were interested in Hooiveld - but like most posts on here its based largely on assumptions, rumours and conjecture.
  21. We should swap Hooiveld and De Ridder and some cash for Douglas from Twente. Astori and Douglas would give us a real chance of staying up - and who knows they might both give us a season in the Championship if we went down - and certainly a great chance of coming back up. Alternatively if we don't want to spend that kind of money we should get Upson and Dawson in on loan for the rest of this season. Zaha at Palace would be great - but I think we missed our moment for him in the summer. It's the same with Ince as well now I expect. Matt Phillips would be my realistic choice now for some pace and width up front - and he's more likely to stay with us if we go down. Olsson from Blackburn for the left back slot would also be on my list. And Trippier from Burnley for the right back slot. To be honest I think we need to keep one eye on signing players that would stay with us - and give us at least one season in the Championship - and a great chance of getting promoted again - if we did go down.
  22. I thought Fraser was carrying an injury - but yes I think we probably do need another right back. Kieran Trippier at Burnley would do for me. Worryingly it adds another player to the long list of players we need. We now need: - a first choice goal keeper - a first choice left back - a right back - a defensive midfielder - a right winger - and 2 centre backs We have got quite a few players to get rid of now though - including: De Ridder Hooiveld Fox Richardson Butterfield Dickson Seaborne Forte Chaplow? Boruc? Barnard I would loan out Chaplow, Fraser, Fox and Barnard for now though just in case we need them next season. I would also send Tandanari, Martin and Mayuka out on loan to the Championship to get some game time and some more experience.
  23. Lambert just isn't mobile enough to lead the line - he needs someone likec Rodriguez to play in front of him and run the channels - and get the best out of him At times today his lack of pace really cost us today - plus he ran out of steam long before the 90 mins was up He's really best as a second striker
  24. It's not so much that we are better side without Lallana - we are just a more balanced side when only play 2 out of the attacking 3 of Ramirez, Lallana and Puncheon. Just like we are a much better side when we play Lambert behind another striker - and let him drop deep and go wide to collect the ball and link the play - and attack the fullbacks at the back post.
  25. Jay Rod has to lead the line - without Lallana, Puncheon and Ramirez on the pitch to run at the opposition Lambert just isn't mobile enough to find the time and space he needs - plus Hangeland will dominate him in the air.
