There's the myth about xG. It's not a statistic. It's a number based on someone or something's opinion. Shots on target, possession, passes, tackles, etc, are based on reality.

If we go on winning run, it's not "him", it's us, the team, our team, saints. Jones wasn't "hounded before he even got started". He got criticism for producing shit football and shit results. He deserved that imo, and deserves praise for turning it around over the last week, but needs to get wins on the board in the league.

Why do we need stats to tell us that Che Adams can't finish, but that Harry Kane? I'm genuinely confused why anyone needs xG when you could have a stat that says, for example, Che had 5 shots and all were off target. It's still bollox.

It's bollox. Someone or something makes up a number. They then say that someone has over or under achieved their xG, but fail to point out the obvious, ie that their guess was wrong and that no stats take account of a worldy save, the striker skying it, or some other event that happens on a football pitch but not a spreadsheet. It's bollox.

Agreed, and although I think the criticism was justified, he has every right to fight back. Doing so shows character, and his fighting spirit and self belief appears to have transferred to the players.

The point about Lyanco learning is a good one. Although he's 25, he's only played about 100 games of senior football, and is still coming to terms with the PL. I put his rashness down to trying to impress, but last night showed that he can be calm, and hold his own at this level. He's proved me wrong.

Doswell spoke as a fan, but a fan with more credibility than the likes of you and me. Whatever your thoughts on whether Doswell should have said what he said, and whatever your thoughts on his ability (ignoring that Doswell is one half of a managerial team, the other half of which has played in the top flight), he said what nearly every fan thought.

We'll agree to differ Duck. The Lyanco point was plainly flippancy, I certainly didn't take it literally. Re Jones, I think all of us until probably last night thought he was miles out if his depth and looked like a lower league manager, ie not far above the level Doswell has managed at, and is probably capable of managing at. I have no issue with him calling what looked like a shovel a shovel - others can think differently. With the benefit of hindsight he may may well have been wrong in his assessment, but that applies to probably 95% of fans.

What they both said was bang on when they said it. Jones looked like a flyweight fighting with the heavyweights, and there was nothing wrong with pointing it out. Doswell spoke as a fan, but one who just happened to have more credibility than the likes of you and me. They've got nothing to be ashamed of, but Jones should be embarrassed by what his team served up before the weekend.
