The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
egg replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
Nutshell. All avoiding the obvious point that Boris knows exactly what he's done and shouldn't have to be told. It's like taking a shit and asking someone to look in the toilet to decide whether you have in fact laid a turd. All a bit fucked. -
We'll that's find and sign that player, then move Bednarek on. Selling him first and then hoping we can find a gem is high risk imo. Hopefully the new ownership gives us the cash flow to do that.
-
I think the public talk is about Ralph pumping up Broja to push for a stay. I think most sensible fans accept that he's hear for 1 season only, and if we can keep him somehow, then that's a bonus.
-
Yep, of course. I go back to the point of who is it suggested that we upgrade Bednarek with for the same money that we sell him for?
-
Lyanco is no upgrade for me. He's got heart and desire but he's erratic. Bednarek ain't great in any department, but he's not poor in any department either. He's decent enough at this level and does a job and personally I'd keep him. That said, we can do better but you've waded into a discussion without appreciating the context. The suggestion was we sell Bednarek now for £15m and replace him now with a better player for £15m. That's unrealistic imo, and it's pretty reasonable to ask anyone who has that idea who they have in mind and your - in the real world "just sell him and get an upgrade for the same cash" just doesn't work.
-
Possibly mate but I was responding to the point that TWar made that we sell for £15m now and upgrade him now for the same money. No suggested replacement has been named and I don't see it as a realistic idea.
-
Yep, but unless I'm mistaken, you're advocating Bednarek now for £15m. Who are gonna get for £15m who's an upgrade and can be a starter this season? Salisu took an age to settle.
-
That's comparing apples to cabbages. Different windows, different types of deals, and different circumstances. The issue here is selling Bednarek now for £15m and replacing him with better for £15m. It won't happen and I've not read one suggestion of who we might get.
-
How do you get better than a £15m player with £15m? It's like selling a house for £500k and expecting to buy a better one in the same area for £500k.
-
Does Simeu's red ban him from premier league games? Hopefully we won't need him, but you never know.
-
This will be a tough game, wolves are decent and going well but same or similar system to the other night and I reckon we'll come away with a draw.
-
Some barely women though it would seem. Bad lad.

Nice, I bet he was sweating after getting that news.

Absolutely, we all misjudge players from time to time. Like you, I was never a JWP but he's proved me wrong and I'm happy to concede that. Broja is a class act and hopefully he can fulfil his potential.

It looked like a 352 but with players moving into zones at different times. The key for me was an extra man in midfield to help us dominate the middle of the park, get the ball and use it. That's much more effective than nunber 10's running around a lot trying to block everything and hope that something comes from it. I agree that the 4222 has had its day, and interestingly it isn't working for Man United and despite being Tuchel's preferred system he doesn't use it at Chelsea, preferring a back 3.

I'll comment only on Broja as that's what this thread is about. It doesn't matter how many games Broja had played for us, your suggestion that Armstrong had a higher ceiling (more potential) than him was ridiculous. I don't know what criteria you used to gauge your opinion, but I suspect stats were a factor and if so the conclusion you arrived at highlights that stats only tell a part of the story. Just watching these players and understanding what makes an average player and what makes a good one are all that is/was needed. Armstrong is a modern day Paul Dickov - tenacious, pacy ish, busy, OK at finishing, but little more. Broja offers a hell of a lot more in all departments and has that rarity of being big, skilful and fast. His performances and goals for Albania also showed his ability. It was obvious from the off that Broja has the ability to be a special player. Armstrong will never be, unfortunately.
