Hamas came into power on the back of what happened in 2000/01 and the aftermath. On the remainder, we're largely in agreement, I think. Gaza cannot be ruled by Hamas. There'll never be a prospect of peace, and Israel cannot live safely alongside Palestine, with the attitude of it's current government. Both sides need a fundamental change of attitude and direction, and what we've seen over recent years and from 7/10 will not be changed by aggression. No chance. Despite what some feel, there must be dialogue, a willingness for mutual change, and then change. We've almost been there, and day by day, that prospect is getting further away.

You irritate me, that's what comes across. As for the wider picture, this situation was almost resolved by dialogue in 2000/01. A change of Israeli government put paid to the talks. That's a fact. If dialogue nearly ended it then, it can end it now. Please tell me how you can see the relentless Israeli aggression ending this. Please don't kid yourself that you have better morals than SoG.

I's suggest read the Moratinos non-paper, and the detail of the Taba summit, for a more balanced and accurate perspective. Also look at the Israeli behaviour in the aftermath.

The Israeli peoples suffering post 7/10 is largely insignificant on comparison to the Palestinians. It was also a largely insignificant comparison pre 7/10. Their suffering on 7/10 is well acknowledged.

Can their really be any complaints about Hamas firing off rockets given the attack they're under? It's apparently a war, but their rockets cannot be used on the same breath of what happened on Rafah. That was unforgivable, and I don't buy the "mishap" line. Re the rape tactics, I hadn't appreciated until the other day that it was an Israeli tactic in 1948. There's videos out there of old Israeli men laughing about how their mates took Palestinian girls aside and raped them to the point that they were rag dolls. 7/10 was hideous, and has hallmarks of what happened in 1948. Possibly delayed revenge. Hideous regardless.
