I'm not sure who's dreamt up these new numbers for positions. I recall an article on the BBC last year, I think from Danny Murphy, giving different numbers to positions, ie not this 6, 8 and 10 nonsense. From my era, a 6 was a CB, a 4 was the more defence minded midfielder, an 8 your box to box midfielder, and a 10 the smaller man up front who dropped back a bit. Feck knows who decided this 6, 8, 10 nonsense.

My guess is that Mara is as good as gone, hence the fair play money/money for Archer. I don't think we'll get another striker either. The Portuguese kid, an attack attacking midfielder and possibly Fraser is all I think we'll get.

I don't disagree with any of that. However, we dominated midfield yesterday (before the sending off as well) but didn't penetrate enough. This lads scout report suggests that he's a midfield ball recycler, offers little creativity, and little in an attacking sense. That's a million miles from what we need. We need PL ready players - BD, Lesley, Downes, THB, Taylor, and arguably Archer, are there or thereabouts. We need a creative midfielder to make the chances and a proper striker to score them. Plus a keeper. A promising ball recycler is not what we need with limited funds imo.

Seems a complete waste of money. Big Lesley is surely here for that role, with Charles either giving cover or moving on. What we needed was obvious yesterday. He isn't it.

I'd have liked to have seen TP off the bench today, just to give us an extra option - stretch them out wide and hit the big man with crosses, as well as having Cameron stretching them down the channels, and feeding off knock downs.

I thought we put in a very good performance. That said, if BD puts that chance away, and AM doesn't do such a bad job of following daft instructions, we win away at Newcastle. I'm a hell of a lot more optimistic after that than I was at 3.00 today.

You don't have to play those passes as a keeper. If he had authority to clear his lines, that goal ain't happening. Yep, McCarthy fucked up, but he fucked up playing suicide football. Clear your lines and then win the ball higher up the park. I'm not letting McCarthy or RM off the hook for that.
