Lol - it seems we're in agreement (read what I said). I was talking about off the ball - where I think he does well. On the ball he makes poor decisions, but I personally think these are down to a lack of confidence and over thinking.
-
I'm not defending Redmond and my comment was more general, but to say he doesn't have good technique or control is quite a statement - the player I see has good technique and when he's on his game has fabulous control, but for too long he has lacked confidence and more importantly makes poor decisions with the ball. On the flipside he does have good awareness of the game around him with intelligent runs and particularly playing against the ball which is sadly lacking from others who are lauded for their play with the ball - djenepo consistently causes us problems with his headless chicken approach to defending, Walcott frequently leaves gaping holes when he gives up the chase and Armstrong seems to give up the ball far too easily in ridiculous places. Unfortunately none of our number 10s are consistent or have a complete game, but all of them do a good job for a team who are giving the big boys a run for their money.
-
It's interesting that fans expect anything else from these sort of players. If they were consistent they would be among the best players in the world and playing for Barcelona, real Madrid, Liverpool, man city, etc... I can't really think of any player in these positions who doesn't blow hot and cold and frustrate fans and doesn't play for a top team. For example when zaha was consistently doing it in one season for palace he was suddenly a £100m player.

Disgusting. Under the current rules that is a pen every day of the week.
-
We don't deserve to be losing this - we've had far more chances than them, their quality showing in taking their best chance. I'm wondering what it is that is preventing Dean from getting his yellow out for man city players (except de bruyne) - another biased to the big boys performance so far.
-
I think we'll see an attacking approach from city which could play into our hands. As you say city need a win so I can't believe they will be cautious. An early goal from us would be very disruptive to them and I suspect we'll see a bit more energy in the press from the start - which I agree probably means a rest for Armstrong.
-
I can't believe I'm disappointed with an away point against arsenal - an away point that takes us third! Has to be said that ref was abysmal. Nice he decided to even it up by putting his side down to 11 men. Probably should have been a pen, but I would have been fuming if that was given against us.

Saints vs Sheff Utd - Match & Reaction Thread
StrangelyBrown replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
What a goal from redders! Vest has been amazing today. Adams has been phenomenal - incredible workrate, strength and link up play. -
Just resurrecting this one to see what people's opinions are now he's had a few games. For me he's a useful addition to the squad, but isn't exactly the Messiah. I'm certainly not seeing him as a great signing at the moment - just an ok one at a time when we don't seem to have money to spend. Thoughts?
-
Good result in the end, didn't play that well mind. Vest was immense tonight - clearly feeling the pressure of salisu waiting in the wings 😀
-
2 pens that by the letter of the law we're pens, but neither would have been given in the past. Seems fair to me.
-
If he could only add finishing to his game... He wouldn't be playing for us 😀
-
I must have missed that. I've just seen some very vague answers that are open to interpretation
-
LeG as you seem to be ITK can you confirm that this isn't just an injury problem?
-
Perhaps this is all as simple as it seems? He's had an injury is taken a while to get over it, there have been a few set backs along the way, but all minor and the club are managing him back to full fitness without risking a serious further injury... Sometimes the answer is the most obvious. Or we could take the le tissier view that this is ALL A MASSIVE CONSPIRACY!
-
Klopp may be intelligent and articulate, but not intelligent enough to realise he needs to rotate his players and that the reason he has so much money at his disposal is because of TV and the extra games they have to play. He's made himself look a proper wining victim these last few weeks worthy of his crown as king of the bin dippers Favourite managers would be Clough and Strachan - both fantastic in their own way
-
I suspect it is that the position is a 60 minute position rather than Armstrong being a 60 minute player. No matter who plays in one of the 10 positions, they seem to be knackered in the second half which then causes us to be under too much pressure. These positions are key to our press and as soon as they stop pressing we start defending further back, which in turn puts us under pressure. Perhaps we just need to have replacements for both those positions at the right time?
-
Again poor performance in the second half. United didn't deserve that, but we are our own worst enemy when we lose our discipline and forget our shape. Not sure vestergaard deserves to keep his place after that performance - why he was pissing off up the field in the second half is beyond me, Bertie looked out of sorts too and not sure that moving Walcott back into a 10 role does anything other than hurt us. Long once again was not the answer - 2 runs and then nothing else of any note. Hassenhutl needs a different 2nd half game plan.
-
Long confirmed everything I have thought about him for while now - he's not the answer to any problem. He did almost nothing and looked like he didn't understand what he was supposed to be doing. About time we let the kids have a go.
-
Good game - but could have been a comfortable win with a decent finish from Walcott. Not the best game from our forward players (all 4 of them) in the second half which put a lot of pressure on the rest of the team. Wolves really went up a gear in the second half and deserved their point in the end. Vestergaard my motm. McCarthy showing great saves and would have been my motm but for some piss poor distribution in the second half.
-
FFS losing the ball far too easily from forward positions. Djenepo and Walcott both need to come off.
-
And I was explaining why "thus far" don't think he's a "great person". Positive so far, but there is a lot in his game that could be better - e.g. second half against villa where his lack of tracking back (fitness?) / work against the ball helped let villa back into the game (I'm not saying he was the only one). Having said that he adjusting to a completely new way of playing so I'm not going to judge him either way yet. I do worry that someone who has been accused of not having a football brain may not be up to it, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised.
-
So far he's been positive, but "great" is a stretch and it's only been 2 games. Let's see what his overall contribution has been in 5 or so games.
-
It's not just about what someone does with the ball. After all only one person has the ball at any given time. I remain to be convinced that he does enough off the ball or is intelligent enough with his running to create spaces for others.

Fantastic performance. So many players having brilliant games. Ralph has got us playing some amazing football. Such a better team without hojbjerg!
