  1. They wouldn't need to justify or prepare fans for the sales of those players.
  2. When you overlay it all with the financial comments, it's clear we are very open to selling players.
  3. Turkish has his very own "Time to cash in on Cork?" thread!
  4. Don't be silly Jeff.
  5. We have up to five players who could play for a top 4 side. We have three players going to a World Cup to play for England. A unique position for a modern day Saints and one we may not see again in a long long time. I'm not sure who is advocating spending 100's of M to get into the Champions League but rather, at least do all you can to retain what we have until we achieve something tangible ourselves. At a minimum, show some strength and don't look like we're about to roll over and have our belly tickled by however wants our top players.
  6. It was very easy to speak to that many people at the awards ceremony. Nothing unbelievable about it.
  7. Sorry, but you can easily say, "we haven't had any bids and we don't invite any bids as we don't need or want to sell any of our players".... A much better starting point than "other clubs have more money than us, we can't compete and we have players they want".
  8. Guess Poch wants to negotiate with clubs for Shaw and Lallana then?
  9. The consistent message from the board since they assembled......"we need money, come and buy our players"
  10. setting us up for some player sales and modest spending IMO
  11. Steve G sold his soul to the devil
  12. Everyone needs to stop being cryptic. Smirks, spill the beans on Pardew's previous and who is Steve?!
  13. I seem to remember left back being very anti-cortese with appalling grammar and spelling? Manager must have been Pardew?
  14. That sounds like a blatant attempt to get the fans on the new boards back. Where is little Nicky?
  15. Some good observations of Pochettino in this little snippet from a general Premier League weekly review: Pochettino is the shrewdest manager in the Premier League Common wisdom has it that when it comes to "mind games" José Mourinho is Sir Alex Ferguson's rightful heir, but Mauricio Pochettino takes an entirely different approach to managing the demands of the British football media. Lob a question to Pochettino about his plans for the future or whether the club can, or want, to keep Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw or any other of Southampton's bumper crop of gifted players and (in the most disarming manner possible) his translator will give you the answer … to an entirely different question. By saying nothing, Pochettino avoids confrontation, takes the pressure off his players and also encourages more speculation, the "right" kind of speculation: rumours have it both that he will be headhunted "by a top club" and that he is about to sign a long-term deal on the south coast. Clearly, he's learned a lot from his chastening experiences at Espanyol. The news hounds could be asking why it is that Pochettino has managed it so that an 18-year-old former Plymouth trainee with one goal to his name is their only fully-fit striker while Dani Osvaldo and Emmanuel Mayuka have been farmed out on loan. But instead all the talk is of the bright future that stretches ahead. In his efforts to keep every detail under command, Pochettino is shrewd, charming and entirely ruthless. Scott Anthony
  16. I can see us being sold in the next couple of seasons as I think SFC is now KL's most valuable asset post liquidation of the Mali business, I think there is less emphasise now on the "Southampton Way" from a footballing perspective and more emphasise on maximising profits so she can squeeze as much as possible out of the value of the club. The footballing ambition until then will be to retain Premier League status. It's a shame as we seemingly have up to 5 players who are looking for the next challenge and would be willing to try it with Saints but the club cannot match that ambition any longer. It will be a long time before we are in a position like this again.
  17. I know, was responding to the fact that you reckon we would have 75M to spend and then came up with that questionable list of players to spend it on!
  18. What a waste of 75M that would be. Average of 15M per player and none of them are worth that.
  19. If you're not fishing, then you are desperately dumb. We already rejected a bid of 12M for him. He would go for 15M+, more if he gets in the French WC squad as reported.
  20. Lallana, Shaw & Morgan to leave. Possibly Lovren as well. All in all about 80M worth of player right there so a nice little windfall for KL.
  21. The grass whisperer
  22. he'd make the perfect QPR scout
  23. He is not even in the prime of his career yet and Iniesta peaked around 27. I said he wasn't far off not that he is as good as. In any case, a unique player who is not easily replaceable.
  24. He's had a fair few good seasons for us. Likely to start for England in a World Cup with a chance to impress at the highest level. We'll see.
