It was Lowes policy of building a big squad, with little quality. so if offered a player on a free, he wasn't going to say no. I think the kid should just retire tbh, go and find something you're good at and make a career for yourself...

The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread
S-Clarke replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
i doubt anyone will know the exact budget, but pardew has said he wants to build a championship squad ''now'' - rather than wait another year. If we can attract Fonte when we are 15th in L1, then who knows what our limit will be in the summer? i wonder if we'll even try to bring a few prem player's not getting a game? -
what a clueless ****. It seems as if 90% of Portsmouth fans share his view. they really do not have a clue as to what a mess they are in do they? i'm sure they expect to win the league next year with 110 points, with Micheal Owen being the top scorer.

i think he'll be taking a stronger look at the championship team of the year
-
"Someone in the FA and Premier League needs to say - we need to give them a reward," said Pompey manager Grant. what.the.****.

Pretty fair team i think, although i'm slightly surprised that Snodgrass has been included, because he's really tailed off in the 2nd half of this season (he had a much better season last year IMO), I'd have gone with someone like Douglas from Swindon. Also a bit harsh to include Harte in the team taking up the LB slot - when he's played at CB 90% of this season, so on that basis i'd swap him for Harding.
-
I think most of us are pretty confident based on our form this season - which lets me honest, in any normal season we'd be in a top 2 place, i'm sure of it. So with more quality to come in the summer to add to this current lot, it would take a **** up of monumental proportions to miss out.

it was as good as giving away a penalty, i knew it was in as soon as the ref' blew up, he very rarely misses chances like that. 18 goals from CB this year!
-
yep - i found that bit quite funny, a little appeal to the camera, for Nicola and Markus to let him build a quality championship team. He said he wanted to build a championship squad now, so he could bed it in so we're ready when we're promoted. i'm very excited tbh.

I think people are being slightly harsh towards seaborne. He may have been a bit sloppy at the end (but Davis was just as much at fault IMO) but he didn't put a foot wrong during the rest of the game, same can be said of the Oldham match too. He's young and he will have lapses in his game, which can hopefully be coached out of him by Downes (there isn't a better coach around for him). I don't think he'll be first choice week in - week out next year as i still think we'll sign another CB, but i do rate seaborne and at 21 he could become a good player for us.

Sounds to me like it's almost a done deal "I still don't know exactly what the future holds, but Reading and Southampton are in talks," he confirmed. "I'd be happy to stay because I'm enjoying my football, playing games and scoring goals, so there's nothing holding me back from signing. "I've made a lot of progress here and I feel that I've improved a lot on my technical ability, before I was raw with power and pace, but now I've got technicality as well." "There'll be a lot of expectation on us to win promotion next season and if we don't it would have to be a very good reason why not.
-
yep, glad someone picked that up. He did have a good game and anticipated situations very well, i'm not sure I'd sign him as our first-choice RB - but I'd give him a contract to have him as a squad player.

It would be good to get Leeds out of the way, along with Norwich that's 2 of the strongest teams out of the league straight away. I'd pick Millwall to go up in the playoffs, i think they could still be as strong next year if they stay down. Charlton are a funny one, if they stay down i can see them losing quite a few of their ''big'' players as there was talk of them going into admin not so long ago. I think coming down, obviously plymouth/pboro - but it's the toss up between Palace and Wednesday, i'm not sure who i'd prefer tbh - both decent sized clubs, who will possibly be under new ownership with a bit of money.
-
i think we'll be fine next season, the thing that's impressed me most so far is Pardews attitude. It's not just the word ''promotion'' or ''top 2'' - he states that we will go all out to win the league and you will not go far wrong with that attitude. set out to achieve the top and you will not go far wrong.
-
his comment a few weeks ago was exciting. ''if we go up we'll be looking to build a good championship team, but if we stay down I'll be doing the same as well'
-
alot of people made a big deal of us spending 1.2m at the time, but we didn't we spent possibly around 500k, with the rest (as people have said) being based on apps, international honours and possibly a large sell on fee for Strasbourg. he signed a 4 year deal, i can see him seeing that out with us and hopefully longer.
-
Lambert Harding and a batch of players in third (kelvin, Antonio, lallana, morgan, jaidi) most improved player is a toss up between Adam and morgan, but i'd give it to Morgan. - simply because he's added so many different parts to his game that he didn't have last year, he's no longer your poncy midfielder - he's gritty and loves a tackle. He also very rarely gives the ball away and is often intelligent with his passing, he now knows when to play it short - or to play it long. can only see him getting better too.

Rickie set to reveal his future...
S-Clarke replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
He also said at the end of the interview that rather than going back to Liverpool, he'll spend the summer down here having a good look around the area as he hasn't managed to do that yet. stop worrying about losing him! -
I think going up next season may work out better in the long run, i expect us to go up automatically, hopefully by winning the league - teams that do that often propel into the championship and carry on their form (we could end up with 2 seasons of winning most weeks under our belts) but the bonus with us is that we'll end up adding to our team with even more quality (i can sense the ambition is to see us as the best in that league too) - so without sounding too demanding, I'd expect us to go straight into a championship promotion hunt.
-
they've had the training rooms totally renovated, but that was done a while ago i think. i keep hearing rumours of electronic turnstiles being installed over the summer, not sure though.
-
did ok, nothing spectacular. Looked a little nervous with his first few touches, but after that he settled, and seemed keen to get on the ball and was going to look for it - which is always a good sign. good to see players like him given a chance.
-
lol the big south-coast derby it is then, bet the police are quaking in their boots. oh.

Good win, we kind of played in fits and starts - some really really good spells and some sloppy parts to the game. First half we looked a little slow, although it wasn't as bad as Oldham - we had a threat and through Antonio we had a player that actually scared the opposition, you could see them back off him every time he got hold of the ball, his close-control and manipulation of the ball is getting much better, so combine that with pace and strength...he can scare the living daylights out of full backs next season. I thought going in at 1-0 would have been fair, but obviously that wasn't going to happen. Said to the guy next to me, giving away a free kick in that position (although it was very dubious to say the least) was like giving away a penalty, Ian Harte will rarely throw up an opportunity like that. 1-1 it was then. 2nd half we played with much more purpose and much more intensity, which saw Rickie get us back in front within a min - that set the tone for the 2nd half really, and we really did take the micky out of them at times - with Antonio running at them, Papa on the other side and Lambo winning everything in the air - i honestly thought it could have been another 4/5-1 score line. We ended the game sloppy though and i kind of felt we let them off the hook as we could have given them a good thrashing today. Their 2nd goal took the shine off it slightly and was seriously shocking defending, but we won whilst battering them at times - and that's all that matters. my MOTM was Antonio, although Papa caused havoc, albeit in his usual erratic style! Hope we can sign both of them tbh, i can see next season being alot of fun having those 2 as options in our attack.

white lost his way after his serious injuries, he struggled to make any sort of mark at Easteligh so i can't imagine him having a future here as he's over 20 now. (i think) shame really, he always had potential in the U18's but was just dogged by one too many injuries. one player that has come on leeps and bounds this year though is Aaron Racine, a CB who's been a mainstay in the reserves this year. I think he's only 18, but very highly rated. (another one who's been held back by injuries in recent years)
