  1. If you look back to 2005 we ended up where we were because of the defensive frailties as you said - we tried to cheap our way to a Killer replacement after he had that serious injury. It didn't work and we ended up having to endure bloody Jacobson and Davenport swanning around at the back, Claus really missed Killer too. The parallels with this year are similar, but the opposite end of the pitch. We're not amazing defensively this year, don't get me wrong, but we've tried to cheap out in attack and 'get by' which has ultimately killed us. In 2005 we had sought after attackers in Crouch, Camara and even Phillips (and Beattie for half the season), but I can't think of any of our 'strikers' who would be sought after this year. We've not given ourselves a chance.
  2. What a huge bonus that would be for us! Quite easily one of, if not the worst CM I've ever seen play in the PL for us.
  3. Oh for sure it can be traced back to previous seasons, the lack of investment under the Gao years hindered us - but it was made 100x worse by the horrendous use of the little money we did have. We've kind of fast-tracked the decline this year though with lots of poor decisions, but like you say we're not here just because of Rasmus and co - it's been brewing for a while, it's just whatever they've done has sped it up (not ideal). Had we got a proper striker in the summer we may have ridden out the storm this year and grown from there, but sadly everything has been allowed to catch up with us.
  4. I remember 2005 vividly, unfortunately. From Marcus Bent making it 2-2 at the death for Everton, to bloody Ruud scoring against us on the final day. (And the 5-1 smashing by Watford in the cup that season). But we did have some good moments, the result against Boro at their place, beating Spurs at home, the last min draw against Palace, the last min win against Norwich with that Camara goal and obviously Blackstock scoring against the Skates. Less said about the away game. We were in with more of a shout in 2005 though, made more of a game of it and certainly had more points at this stage than we do now. We won't be taking it to the last day this year that's for sure, and that's why it's pretty obvious we've been down for months. Clubs on 24 points at the end of April do not survive. No precedence for it and there never will be.
  5. It's the goal scoring situation, which has been highlighted even more by adding an inexperienced GK in between the sticks who lets in any shot on target. We don't stand a chance. Obviously you can look at Jones and go WTF, but I do still believe our problems go back to the summer when we screwed up the striker hunt and decided to go with Adams and Armstrong - no wonder we are gone.
  6. We have been for many months, I came to terms with it when we lost to Forest way back. Looked pretty certain since then really. I'm just going to watch the rest of the season with zero expectations with an 'on the beach' mentality preparing for next year, only we can get ourselves into a relegation battle and end up with nothing to play for in the final 6
  7. For all the internal clamour about us being so 'well run' and ''sensible'', we have probably made some of the worst footballing decisions in the country over the last few years. Nathan Jones, Moussa, McCarthy, Forster double contracts to name just a few. Terribly run.
  8. He went a bit stale, but they'd be stupid to look back on his tenure with anything other than happy memories. This is Leicester we are talking about, under his tenure they got into Europe 3 years in a row (almost the Champions league) and won the FA Cup. Their recruitment and finances hit a bit of a dead-end in recent years, as shown by the signings of Vestergaard and Bertrand, but I'm genuinely surprised at how much hate they had for him. Be careful what you wish for springs to mind there.
  9. Adam Armstrong fetched £15.6m and he was into the last year of his contract @ Blackburn. Tella still has a few years left to run. Bidding starts between £20-25m for me.
  10. That was such a poor decision, no matter how many times you replay that's a dive. Luton looked exactly what they were - lots of effort, passion, but zero quality. I think what they're doing at the moment is the perfect level for them, compete in the top end of the Champ, win games, dream etc. But if they did ever get promoted to the PL then they would be totally and utterly destroyed, it would be painful to watch.
  11. At what point do you make the call for the players sake though? I'd trust the judgement of those closer to the situation to be honest, we know how susceptible this guy is to injuries so the last thing you want to do is run him to the ground. Having him for 70mins per game for the rest of the season is better than 90mins in one, and then 0 mins in the upcoming 3 or 4 as he's injured. We had the opposite argument last year - we'd overplayed Tino, managed him poorly etc. But this year we are being careful with Lavia and that's also wrong. But as I said, the problem wasn't the sub - it's the replacement, blame the scouts for giving us Diallo as the replacement.
  12. I wouldn't want him anywhere near this club next year, not a massive fan of his attitude and technically he seems incredibly limited. If we sign him as part of our Championship squad then I fear we'd have learnt nothing. We need a reset and that means dumping the likes of him when we have the chance to. It's the time to be ruthless, not the time to start offering out contracts to more also-rans.
  13. I still don't know why everyone is throwing their arms up in the air on the Lavia sub, seriously look back from 70mins on and he was blowing - he could hardly move. The problem wasn't the sub, if you want to blame anyone blame the recruitment for giving us Diallo and deciding to sell Romeu. And if we don't stay up because of '2' points, I won't be looking at this game as the game we threw it away in. Wolves, Forest, Leeds, Palace to name a few would feature higher in my list. As crap as the capitulation was on Friday, it's still a bonus point in the grand scheme.
  14. Livramento i'll give you, but I don't think we should be applauding him for finding Small or Simeu. The later two will just drift off into lower league obscurity. The youth signings we made this summer, in addition to the likes of Lavia, Edozie etc were 100% Shields. Give him Credit for Livramento for sure, and the likes of Ballard and Doyle over the last few years, but he has been part of the setup who thought it was a good idea to offer Moussa a new deal.
  15. Yes, 100% - but the player wanted to asses at the end of the season. I just hope he thinks he's too good for the Championship and doesn't take us up on the offer.
  16. I'm pretty sure we have tons of players in the youth team who can add variety and effort, but hopefully a little bit of quality on top. I'm sure Moussa is a good lad, but he's been here ages now and he doesn't cut it.
  17. Probably the same people who thought it was a good idea to offer Moussa a new deal, and also put a new deal on the table for Elyounoussi.
  18. Looks like a bit of a flawed player, still only young but I don't think he's going to make it.
  19. I personally think he is lacking physically, for a GK he is pretty small in stature. He doesn't have the reach to get to the corners low or high, so for him it's even more critical that his initial positioning is right - as half a step the other way kills him dead as his lack of stature means he won't be able to recover.
  20. A Viera and Henry combo is something which keeps coming up in my mind as well, the sort of appointment which could galvanise the fanbase and add enough stardust to convince the likes of Alcaraz to stay, whilst having the power to attract players that are probably out of our reach. (It's amazing what happens when you have status at a club in terms of attractiveness, no matter what league you are in) I think Henry is potentially waiting for the USA National Team Job, but there's nothing stopping him coming here for a year and then progressing. The sort of appointments which lend themselves to our conveyor belt reputation.
  21. That bloke has become a parody of himself, fairly sure 90% of what he says nowadays is to get reaction. a 'Positive' WUM if there was ever such a thing.
  22. And yet we're still relegated, so those results were utterly pointless and worthless. Forest, Palace, Wolves, Leeds - those were the games and we weren't good enough. No good turning up for the glamour ties if you can't do it when the expectations are higher, doesn't show well for the character of the squad if I'm honest. Probably quite easy to raise your game on TV against top of the league, bit of a showpiece for you to put to other clubs, but the same isn't true for Palace at home where they throw it away - regularly.
  23. Honestly, the guy is hideous. Fraud of a footballer. I don't think I've ever watched such a bad CM for us, and we had Jermaine Wright and Paul Wotton to endure for a few years.
  24. I'd say expectations need to be quelled there a little bit. In the summer you'll have WHU, Leeds, Palace etc looking for new managers. Potter isn't going to join us when those jobs are avaliable, and those clubs would be daft to ignore him if they had the opportunity. We are a Championship club and we are not going to be recruiting proven, young, PL managers.
